The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Not getting much done at home. Then again maybe if I stopped playing Angry Birds at night I would get more done. :rotfl:

:rotfl: I've heard it's very addicting and that's why I haven't dared to go there!

I read that as - 1 used bonelss/skinless breast !!

She had a raging ear infection and her molars are ready to pop out. Poor little peanut is having a hard time teething.

Poor baby, I'll keep her in my prayers.

Hi all, I have just a minute to pop in. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to catch up.

I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything ready for our trip to Panama. It is SO different than going on vacation. There are so many different things to pack and remember to take with you. Such as, roach killer, mattress pads and netting, wash rags, water tablets, shot records, yellow cards etc. This time in 2 weeks it will all be ready and packed. We leave bright and early on Thursday July 14. I had better get busy!!

WFDT ~ Mai Mai with mango salsa, arugula salad with grape tomatoes and fresh peaches.

Make it a great day everyone!!!

I really apologize for being away for so long. I heard from Becky that the search party was out looking. ;) I have been trying to read along a little, but it has just been crazy here. My boss asked me today if I could add more hours, and I am just not sure that is going to work out, at least not in the near future. Dinner tonight was quesadillas. Liam was thrilled. There really has not been much exciting cooking going on here lately.

:rotfl2: Oh, that would be pretty bad.

I will try to catch up tomorrow.

For the love of all that is Holy, STAY AWAY!!!!!!

There is a Rio version that is based on the movie. The pigs in the regular version are bad enough, the monkeys laugh at you when you don't clear the board!

My neice was wondering why the birds were angry. I asked her "wouldn't you be angry if someone threw you at a pig?" ;)

Good morning!

Ellen – God bless you for what you do. I really admire y’all.:grouphug:

Laura – Glad to hear from you, I was getting worried. I hope your boss will understand that you may not be ready to commit to more hours at this time.

WFD - Creole steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli.

Good Morning!
Ellen- How was the garage sale? I think that I saw that Ethan is 7! When did this happen?????????? Sending Happy Birthday wishes to the big birthday boy!
Also, have you all gotten any decent weather?

Thanks for asking - the garage sale went pretty good. I HATE garage sales - having them and going to them - so all in all we did pretty good. About $700 - not too bad and more than we started with, every little bit helps.

Ethan loved his new bike. He is getting to be such a big boy.

I read that as - 1 used bonelss/skinless breast !!

:rotfl2: God love 'ya lady!! You are so good for my soul!!

Good morning!
Ellen – God bless you for what you do. I really admire y’all.:grouphug:

Thank you so much. How was the mani/pedi. I need one so bad, but I might just wait till we get back. No sence wasting it on the locals. :lmao:

Bethany ~ I am loving the tour. Sounds like you had a great time and really got out and enjoyed the city.

Nan ~ Mrs. G - that is so me too!! You had me chuckling right out loud. Good luck with the diet. Let us know how it goes please.

Aimee ~ I went to FB - I know you all are shocked - and all I have to say is good for you. I am so proud of you!!!

Janice ~ poor little Minnie. I can just see her little face. I am so glad she was there and not out of the fence.

Laura ~ So good to see you. You are missed when you aren't around, but we all have been there and know how busy you are. Please take care of you and those great kids - that's all you need to worry about.

Becky & Princess - you both are just amazing with your dinners and pictures. Just amazing. :worship:

Marilyn ~ How is your summer going? Slowing down at all?

Love and hugs to all I have missed.

WELL our evening turned out NOTHING like we had planned. We had dinner early as I wanted to watch the VOICE at 7. We had just sat down to eat when we got a call from Matthew and his truck was overheating and the transmission light was blinking. Not what you want to hear being 2 1/2 hours away. So after some thinking we realized the only thing we could do was drive to Lincoln and give him Doug's pickup. He got a ride with his roomate and we took off. Ended up meething 1/2 way. Of course he was hungry, as he was on his way home from work when this happened. So we had tea while they ate. It was good to see him but............not what we wanted to have to do right before leaving for Panama. :headache: He was able to get it back to his apartment - now we have to decide what to do with it. You all remember our last fiasco with the Ford Garage there - we are a bit gun shy. I just wish it was home, but it is what it is and all will be ok - eventually!!

I have to go to Kearney tonight and Doug is going to the Country Club for Men's Night so I have no idea what dinner will be. But I am sure we will eat something somewhere.

Make it a great day everyone!!

A bit. My main thing right now is getting paperwork moved, sorted, processed, filed, shredded. I swear every year we kill more and more trees! :sad2:

Good luck with the vehicle.

I have actually managed to cook proper meals twice this week. Monday I grilled chicken with a Strawberry Jalapeno barbeque sauce I got at the farm and also grilled some of the squash. Also had boiled new potatoes. Last night I made Swai fillets, cous cous and asparagus.

Tonight I am doing something with shrimp.

It's almost here! Yeah, packing for a (primitive) mission trip is so different than a luxury beach vacation in a resort! Good luck!!!

 We miss you around here but I know your schedule is overfull most days. It's a good sign they are asking for more of you but I understand how hard it is to take on anything else right now!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Sorry about the car trouble, but thankful you made a good bit on the garage sale. I hate them too! Way too early.

Did anyone else just LOVE the Voice? Man, it's soooooooooo much better than American Idol and the talent was so impressive! I'm sad it already over but sorta glad to see a show that doesn't stretch out for weeks on end without much purpose. They sorta cut to the chase and it was nice.

I've been crazy tired lately (sleeping 12-14 hours a night ) and I couldn't figure out why until a fever blister showed up this morning. Who knows how long I've been spiking a fever but I knew I didn't feel good for a reason! I hope it improves before camp in a couple of weeks. I'm so thankful to have a job that allows me flexibility in hours and timing. I've been sleeping LATE each day because I know I can still come in, get my stuff done, and take home anything else I need to do. I can't imagine having a position that required a firm start time.

We are going out - we have coupons about to expire. It's BBQ tonight!

Haven't read back but wanted to comment on The Voice. I totally agree that it is 100% better than AI! I am a bit biased though, my favorite singer is a coach...Blake Shelton.:cloud9:

I watched The Voice on and off I forget his name but the short black judge gives me the creeps. I really liked the guy that won. I liked the Sarah McLachlan song he sang.

Tonight is the library and we are eating out before :woohoo:

Ellen Sorry to hear about Matt's truck. Good haul at the garage sale. Around here I am lucky to even make a couple hundred. To many people want it for free.

Aimee Sorry you are feeling sick again:hug: Hopefully it passes quickly.

I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything ready for our trip to Panama. !

Holy Smokes! You have so much going on! I always admire that you go to Panama every year. I cannot imagine me doing that, I truly look up to you and Doug. Too bad about Matt's truck, this was not the best time for that little side trip :headache:

I really apologize for being away for so long. I heard from Becky that the search party was out looking. ;)

.

I know how busy you are so just let us know that you are still breathing! Busy woman but how nice that your employer wants you to work more hours. That would not be happening if you were not so good at what you do!

:rotfl:

My neice was wondering why the birds were angry. I asked her "wouldn't you be angry if someone threw you at a pig?" ;)

Aimee..... Aimee..... Aimee.....

Not much cooking going on here. I wish that I could say why but I am just not sure. I start PT this morning at 7AM. The Dr said I have a tear in my rotator cuff and a bone spur. He does not want to use a cortisone shot because he said where the tear is it would not be good. He was picky where I went to PT because he said that some are way to agressive and he does not want to make this worse. I am officially in "light duty" at home :rotfl:which is where Buddy wants me to be on a good day.

I have chicken to cook tonight. I did not have time yesterday, my neighbors stopped by to gossip. There is an issue at Buddy's work and he is smack dab in the middle of it. I do not understand overall seniority and lists etc but I do understand that Buddy is on the trailer list and has the #1 position with almost 40 years in. He is a company man and is in a position of trust for over 25 years. The Steward put in for his time last week and the result was not pretty. Buddy has a temper but never loses it at work and I guess he "had a word" with the guy. :scared1: The guy is short and pudgy and my neighbor said it was a little scary to watch my 6'6" husband standing a foot taller over this guy and seeing him shrink even more as Buddy "schooled" him. Turns out the guy has been bullying drivers for years and thought that Buddy was going to be okay with these shenanigans. He had told the Boss that he needed to come in when Buddy did but that he would "hide" while Buddy made the moves. Buddy said if the guy wanted his paycheck let him do the job.

Nancy I hope Buddy is ok. Job worries and stuff (since this is a family site) are not good for anyone's health. I wish you well in your PT.

We went to Smash Burgers last night. I don't know if anyone has a location near you, if so try it. Their burgers are pretty tasty plus the have pretzel bread:thumbsup2 and veggies. Of course the veggies are fried but very tasty.

Not sure what dinner is yet probably chicken of some sort.

I watched the Voice too, and really enjoyed it! Actually John and I did not start watching it until two weeks ago, but almost all of the season was available on demand so we picked it up from where we could (three episodes before it went live) and watched it. I was realy impressed with the talent and the coaching. Kathy, I don't really like country music but Blake really grew on me! He was so caring towards his team. I am definitely watching this from the start next season.

Aimee, I am sorry you are not feeling well. Gets lots of rest and feel better soon!

Nancy, I hope the PT helps with your shoulder. You feel better too!

Ellen, I hope your trip to Panama is amazing and rewarding. I am sure it will be. :)

WFD: I have a ribeye steak salting in the fridge for John, and also put some chicken into a yogurt marinade for me. I am thinking of doing indian style food--some indian spiced vegetable sides and grilled naan to go with it.

Does anyone have a good recipe for kale? I got two huge bunches in my CSA box this week.

Ellen – I’m sorry to hear Matt is having issues with the truck again, hope it’s a quick & cheap fix.

Aimee – How are you feeling today?

Janice – Your comment about Cee Lo has me :rotfl2:. I was so glad Javier won, but they all have amazing voices and should all have great careers ahead of them!

Nan – Good luck with the PT, praying it helps.

Becky - Every time someone mentions kale I think of Aarti's recipe for the massaged kale salad, have you tried it?...http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/aarti-sequeira/massaged-kale-salad-recipe/index.html

WFD - Going out for dinner!

Becky I used some of my Kale in a veggie quiche I posted a while back and the rest I just sauted in olive oil and garlic.

Kathy that kale salad sounds so unusual! I wanted to do Indian flavors tonight so I am going to make it! I'll let you know what everyone thought.

Becky, I've made that kale salad several times now and it's always a hit. Very tasty and easy! (well, except for cutting the mango which is always difficult for me...) I think you'll like it.

Nancy, I'm so sorry about your injury! I'm thankful your doctor is hesitant to go for a quick fix and is looking out for you but I know that may mean a slower recovery time. Glad Buddy is on your side!

We are meeting some friends tonight for mexican food.

Hi Everyone,

We had grilled pizza here tonight. Liam declared it delicious.

Ellen -- I hate yard sales, but it sounds like yours was pretty successful. I'm glad Ethan is liking his new bike, and I hope Matthew's truck gets repaired soon. I do admire you for your annual Panama trip. I hope it is rewarding.

Aimee -- I hope you are feeling better. You do so much.

Nancy -- I hope the PT helps. That sounds painful.

Thanks everyone for thinking of me. I think of all of you too, but it is just hard to get back on the computer after being on it all day at work. I don't get any play time there, so it has been tough to check in as often as I would like. I hope everyone has a great Fourth of July weekend! I'm not sure what is cooking yet for us, but it will probably be something good.

Life is just busy here. I'm not even sure why but we just seem to have so much on. It's finally winter school holidays; so I'm hoping that the break from DS' activities will help us slow down for a little bit.

WFDT - DH made a cauliflower soup .... and I got him to put some cheese in it similar to Becky's recipe. We have some crusty rolls; but I think we may also get a plain pizza to supplement the food tonight. Hope you are all well.
