The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Good grief I have tried all morning to get in here. This work thing will just have to give me a break now that I have found all of you wonderful ladies. Geez!!

 to Sheryl, poor poor Buddy, Gretchen and her Dad, Scotlass, Maria, Jan and A. My prayers are with the rest of you also.

Glynis I loved your Chicken recipe I have dubbed it "Glynis' Yummy Chicken" Thanks

Well Doug is on his way to take his Dad in for surgery. It is scheduled for 3:00 this afternoon. Please send a few prayers Doug's way. I know his Dad will be A-ok, but he really needs them to deal with his Mother. She is a REAL handful. Thanks!! Opps, he just called and his Dad is having a fit!!! They made him take his underware off. He is livid -:lmao: I do have to wonder why as it is his eye the are working on. :confused3

Since I am on my own today and most of the night, Elizabeth asked me over to Dinner. So I have no idea what we are having. But she is great cook so I know it will be great.

I will try to check in later - Make it a great day

Since he is from the area they live now, I think it's pretty obvious we will rarely see them and their family life will revolve around his.

Lindsay -- I am glad you are getting to know your new sister in-law. I hope you heard some good news about Jan.

Marisa -- I forgot to congratulate you on your new home. Congratulations!

Nancy -- Poor Buddy. Will Kady be visiting every day after school?

Sheryl -- It sounds like July would be better. I hope that your doctor concurs.

Kathy -- I don't pay attention to dialidol anymore. They have been wrong every week. I think Kris and Allison are getting a lot of young voters, who probably text. I was very happy with the results last night.

Lauren -- I hope Andrew is starting to feel better.

Ellen -- I hope all went well with Doug's dad.

I am making flounder for dinner tonight. I haven't quite figured out the whole meal though.

Glynis, I just checked it out on B&N online. I added it to my cart! I'm almost finished 'Breaking Dawn" and was looking earlier for something to follow it up with. I was thinking about the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, but I couldn't "see inside" any of those, so I'm not sure. I did add an interesting sounding "historical" novel. "Figures in SilK" by Vanora Bennett, set during the War of the Roses. Have you read it or anything by that author?

I've heard good things about the Sookie Stackhouse series. I have them on my list to read, but they won't come up for a while. I have a notebook filled with recommended books, and I'm taking them as they were recommended. I don't know anything about "Figures in Silk", but it sounds interesting. I'll put it on my list!

I hope you like "The Host". It's very different from the Twilight series. Let me know what you think!

Glad you liked the chicken. Was it the one with the pesto? I was thrilled with the flavor of it, too!

Prayers for Doug's dad!

Ellen, sending prayers Doug's way. I am glad you joined us. You fit right in!!:goodvibes

Marisa, congratulations on your new Home Sweet Home!!!!

She is not as close to Myrtle Beach as I thought so all is good on that front. It is in the resort area so she mentioned being comcerned with tourism.

Thank God she and her family are OK, I was so worried.

Quick check in...I am off to the doctor for my 6 week visit...

Hope everything went well!

I forgot to say, I've decided on July for the surgery. But I still haven't spoken to the dr about it. I'm hoping I will finally hear from him today as he isn't in surgery. Unless he tells me it's a very bad idea to wait that long it will be July. Then would be better for Chris & Angelina to help us out. I won't miss my niece's shower or wedding & Alexis will have at least some of "normal" summertime.

I hope the doctor says this is OK, continued prayers for you my friend.

My poor Buddy is going through Kady withdrawal :sad1: He helped to move them in last night and Donny told me it was pathetic. He was drooping an at 6'6" that is a lot of drooping. This morning he told me it was way too quiet here and that it felt awful. I told him that our goal was to help them get into a nice home. "Them......not her!" Oh dear. That little Princess is going to have to visit a lot...I can tell!

Poor Buddy....that little princess better visit often.

I read the whole Twilight series. I thought they were ok. I then read her book "The Host" and was blown away by it! I'm not necessarily a sci/fi fan, but this one is one I loved. I checked it out from the library, and after the first couple of chapters, ran out and bought my own copy. Loved it!

I am not sucked into this one... maybe because I've seen the movie and know what happens? I read a few chapters a night, which is odd for me. It keeps my attention okay but it's not a book that I can't put down to go to sleep. To be honest, Bella annoys the heck out of me already. I hope he kills her at the end of the series

Aimee, I'm glad you'll get to see your Mom! But I'm so sorry about the wedding. I know you are hurting over it. I wish I had some wise words to make you feel better. I don't but I do have prayers:flower3: & hugs:hug: for you!

That's all I need!

I stopped at World Market this afternoon while out running errands and bought 2 big glass bottles of the flavorings for coffee/tea (got peach and caramel), plus a bottle of Rose Regalia to share with my mom one night, and a few packs of beer. At first glance, we looked like a bunch of lushes! Thankfully the lady packed it all in a big box and DH was with me to carry it out :lovestruc

I don't recall having Rose Regalia but I know there are some followers here. What is it best served with? Dessert? Chocolate?

I stayed home today and slept the vast majority of the day. I was miffed though when I woke up about an hour ago. I had this dream where we were having BBQd cheeseburgers with potato chips and Coke. OMG I woke up craving that sooooo bad and wouldn't you know ...we have NONE of that in the house...including the BBQ. :rotfl:

I am not coughing as much and I'll be going back to work tomorrow. :headache:

:eek: My grill just ran out of gas while cooking supper!!!!!:eek:
I just hate when that happens!!!! You know it is not going to taste half as good.

I was grilling sliced potatoes with onions, and I marinated boneless pork chops in terryaki, OJ, garlic and crushed red pepper. It is all in the oven now :headache:!!!

I wanted to check in real quick to let you all know that Eugene got through surgery just fine. He didn't go in till almost 5. It was a 2 hour surgery. But he is out of recovery and in a room. Doug has been able to see him and all is well. Now the REAL fun begins.

Thanks so much for all of the prayers and good wishes. We really felt them.

Oh yea. Elizabeth fixed Blue Hake filets with peppers, a yummy pasta salad and chive cresent rolls with a peach tea. Oh it tasted so good. But anything I don't have to cook always tastes good. We then went for a nice bike ride around the neighboorhood. A nice evening.

Rosa & chocolate were made for each other.......:cloud9:

Thanks!

Now I don't know what to get first! "The Host" or the S.S. series! I was surprised how much I've enjoyed the Twilight series. Harry Potter just didn't "do" it for me, so I thought "teen" books just were not my thing.

Thanks Laura! Oooh flounder. We used to get tons of fresh whole flounders when Bob's Dad was still around. He used to shrimp for a living (after he retired :confused3) and would always catch flounder. I haven't had a really fresh flounder in a very long time.

Aimee, Bella is so annoying I just want to slap her!! Still I couldn't put the book down. I read the 1st 2 books before seeing the movie, so maybe that made a difference.

Rosa goes great with a super chocolaty gooey dessert! Like a lava cake, good brownies, especially anything with dark chocolate. So store bought truffles are really good too.

Ellen, So glad that Eugene surgery went well! I'll pray that his recovery is quick & easy ( on everyone ;))!

Your dinner sounds yummy. Glad you had such a nice evening!

Sleep well everyone!

Quick fly by...gotta get in the shower while Tommy Boy is sleeping.

Tom should be home in a few hours so I will be taking advantage of that. I have pretty much been on my own all week since Andrew could not help with the baby. I will be going out with friends for one of their bdays...will are going to a jewelry party and dinner. I do not have many friends here but was blessed with 2 really good ones, my pool buddies - Andrew is also friends with their boys. They surprised me after my brother's funeral and took it upon themselves and got me a ticket to see David Cook in August!!!

Have a great day!

Lauren, enjoy the jewelry party and dinner after a long week! I am sure you really missed having your men around to help you. Glad A is feeling better.

Aimee, good luck with the wedding situation.

Today, I am taking my DM grocery shopping and to lunch. Dad had a bad night so we are going to goet out and let him try to get some rest.

DH has to work a double so not sure what will happen for dinner.

Happy friday all!
Ann

I'm glad that Eugene came through surgery. Good luck with the recovery!

Your meal and evening sound so lovely! Wish I could say ours was as nice, but after dinner a storm started blowing in, so we ran around the yard, securing everything that could blow away!

From what I hear, the Sookie Stackhouse books are very easy to read. People go through them quite quickly. The Host will take you some time. I'd love to hear what you think of both! I haven't made up my mind about reading the SS books, but I probably will.

I think the fact that Bella is annoying is what teenage girls love about her. I also think they like the fact that some girl, who is not drop dead gorgeous, but really a very average klutz, can get the sparkly, gorgeous guy, makes girls want to read these books. I liked Twilight, and really liked New Moon. I guess you could say I'm a "Jacob's girl".

Happy Friday, everyone! It's a cloudy, grey day here. Our forecast is for rain all weekend long. I shouldn't complain, as we've been in a drought for the last few years, so any moisture is good, but I really have enjoyed the sun the last few days.

Dinner tonight will be mac and cheese for the kids, while Alan and I go out to a Peruvian restaurant 20 miles away. Hope it's good.

I wanted to check in real quick to let you all know that Eugene got through surgery just fine.

Great news!
It's awesome with chocolate and awesome just by itself. Dang, that stuff is good!

Jan is doing ok, just dealing with some sores in her mouth. They did the bone marrow biopsy and should have the results today. I am praying for good news.

I think we have ourselves another Rosa fan!:goodvibes
Praying for good news on the biopsy today.

I will be going out with friends for one of their bdays...will are going to a jewelry party and dinner.

You surely deserve this night out! Give Tom a welcome home hug from me and have a blast tonight.:cool1:

Johnny & I are going out for seafood tonight. Acme Oyster House has the BEST chargrilled oysters I've ever had. Everything I've ever gotten there has been excellent, here's a link for all the seafood lovers(make sure your speakers are on and enjoy the music):
