The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

I had great success today at Motherhood Maternity. I ended up finding a bathing suit that makes me look as close to Cindy Crawford as humanly possible. Somewhat of a small miracle. I did end up getting the print black and white suit with the red belt. (http://www.motherhood.com/Product.a...ankini&Category_Id=0082&MasterCategory_Id=MC9 )

I am sitting here eating Thai food...I picked myself up Nime Chow. So yummy and not bad for you. For those of you who have never had them, they are very similar to Becky's summer rolls she makes.

So far today has been a good day, dinner tonight will be with my parents.
I think she mentioned making chicken wings.

Sheryl, I love the pictures of Alexis cooking, and the final product looks good. I did not eat my DM's Irish soda bread because she added caraway seeds and I do not care for them.

Ann

Aimee- that pup is very sweet!

Kat & Becky I do have a secret country music love.....Willie Nelson, just love him & Sugarland floored me so much I actually bought their CD! That song "Stay"! Unbelievable!

I was miserable last night with the pain in my eyes.....I'm actually going to call another ENT today for a second opinion. I have seen a change when I stay ontop of 600mg Motrin's round the clock, at least I can sleep that way.
Lily doesn't mind me being a vegetable she is next to me laying on her side watching the news with her head sticking out of a throw. She has no concept of being a dog!

Ok where are our missing girls????
Whoops just found Ann~ we were posting the same time.
Ann great news about the suit!!!

Ann, Congrats on getting that suit! It is soo cute! I'll bet you do look like Cindy Crawford!! :thumbsup2 There were no caraway seeds in our bread, just raisins, yummy!

Maria, I hope the medicine helps your ears & you won't need to have tubes put in.

Aimee, That poor skinny little thing!!! Awww breaks my heart.

Lindsay, I would ignore the FB invitation. The whole thing does sound rather strange. :upsidedow

I won't be cooking tonight, I have a ton of leftovers in the fridge. Although I might make my Mom a soda bread.

Glynis, I forgot to say THANK YOU for that recipe! It's the best. :goodvibes

Nancy, I loved your Contemporary story! After all these years Buddy is still a sweetheart. :lovestruc

Tomorrow Mom & DD are coming over. DD & I are hoping to learn how to bake a old family recipe " Pap pies". It's a custard pie that my old Aunts out in the country used to make. Mom has the recipe & has made them before but it's been a long time. I'm also hoping my Mom can find her lemon meringue recipe. She used to make killer lemon meringue pies.

p.s. Y'all can count me in the 50 group. I turned 50 last December which means this year I'll end up being officially OVER 50! :scared1:

Here's A hard at work! Nancy, recognize the apron? :goodvibes

Proud of her finished bread.

Don't know how I missed theses pics!!! So cute, she looks so proud :goodvibes

When did Lauren last post? Didn't she have company coming ?
I am sure she is just busy with Thomas and resting when possible.
Let us know if you hear from her.

Sheryl- The bread looks great, next time you make it be sure to cut a cross in it to let the fairies out! I love your cuttingboard, I know that sounds kind of silly but it looks like one my grandfather made.

Ann- I HATE caraway seeds. I remember in highshcool and I was at a friends house, hot dogs for dinner. They were not nathans by any means (I'm a bit of a hotdog snob if I'm going to eat them) so I figured I could cover up the taste with saurkrout. It was filled with caraway. I'm glad you found your bathing suit, one less thing to worry about.

Perhaps I'll give the book a try. The cover looks really creepy though, I prefer historical fiction. My mother in law always gets up books we don't read, and I feel bad they just sit there.

I have a question for all of you cooking experts. My toaster oven is on it's way out and needs to be replaced. I was thinking of getting a toaster/convection oven and was wondering if any of you had one. I hate heating up the oven for little things, so I thought that would solve the problem. I just don't know if I can use it like a regular oven.

Well, I guess dinner tonight will be the pizzas I was going to make last night. I had every intention of going home and making them after practice, but got thrown a curve when we had to wait with one of the girls on DD's team whose mother showed up late to pick her up for the second week in a row :confused3 and then take another girl home-and the one we took home has ridden with us before and sort of expects us to eat out in the process. I tried to stick with my rule but with both girls and DH working against me, we wound up eating out anyway-I had a taco that didn't agree with me. Hopefully nothing happens tonight to change my plans.

Aimee, the new puppy does look sweet. DD and I are trying to talk DH into another dog, preferably a rescue, but he won't budge. He thinks the one we have is enough...really he is, but I'd love for him to have company since he's home alone all day. Maybe someday.

Have a good day, everyone!

I don't see a FB update from Lauren:confused3:confused3:confused3

Have you tried Phillipa Gregory books? They are great.....

Sheryl- The bread looks great, next time you make it be sure to cut a cross in it to let the fairies out! I love your cuttingboard, I know that sounds kind of silly but it looks like one my grandfather made.

I did cut it but I guess I didn't cut it deep enough? If I had known I was doing it to let the fairies out I would have done a better job. I definitely won't tell A now.... she'll think we killed the fairies.;)

DH bought that cutting board for me, it was some special kind of wood but now I can't remember what it was. :confused3

Sorry, I can't offer any help on the oven, I don't own a toaster oven.

Sheryl - I'm glad you and Alexis had fun making the bread. It's so easy and yummy! I bought enough stuff to make another loaf for dinner tonight. My kids love it, and so do I!

I promise pictures are coming, but I'm going to lunch with a dear friend of mine. We reconnected after almost 2 decades of being apart, and I love it when we get together. This will be her first time seeing Timothy, so I'm excited!

Hey all! Finally have a minute to post. Dinner last night was some sort of pasta that my mom made--was nice to have something to eat when I got home from work. Then of course, I had to watch AI when I got home at 10:30. Kris did great! Was really impressed with most of the group last night--except Adam, watching him made me really uncomfortable.

WFD tonight is going to be Indian food and Naan. Yummo!

Aimee--Ace looks a lot like my sis's new pooch. Except hers is smaller. He's a cutie!

Sheryl--Alexis is so adorable! Bread looks pretty good too!

Okay, gonna go catch up on my guilty pleasure "The Real Housewives" and then go pick up the kids from school.

I had a long, but good, day. I ended up calling in and hitting the golf course with DH. Read almost an entire book (The Memory Keeper's Daughter - anyone read it?) while driving around in the cart. It was a GORGEOUS day - 80 without a cloud in the sky.

Good for you! Your puppy is so cute, skinny little guy :goodvibes:goodvibes

I am due a really big one! :rotfl:

:lmao::lmao:

Here are a couple pics of Ace that I snapped, for those of you who care. This dog is downright precious - he is the perfect family dog. DH wants to trade one of ours for him

See how skinny he is?

He is a cutie! I know you'll get him chubbier soon!

The best news is that I found the camera battery charger. I'm now charging the batteries and will upload some pictures tomorrow. I even took pictures of tonight's dinner. That's how excited I was!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Have a good lunch!

I do remember the Top of the World. However, we never got to eat there. There were too many of us for that to be affordable and Mom and Dad saved all year just so we could stay in the Contemporary. Besides, we were kids and we were at Disney. We didn't care what we ate. Well, except when we went to the Crystal Palace (pre-character meal) and we had to eat veggies, ususally those hard peas and carrots mixed together. They served them everywhere and Daddy would always point them out and call them "rocks".

Tory looked almost that skinny when we got her

.

Has it been ten days already? It seems like you got her last week.

When we took the kids we had gone for ten days but the first six or seven days we stayed in Daytona Beach. Our food bill was astronomical! We had Joey, Buddy's nephew with us and he was a bottomless pit of a teenager! Once we got to Disney we had a voucher for one free meal and was able to get the Brunch at the Top. Gretchen, there was everything you could imagine to eat there adn we were thrilled that we were able to redeem it there. Breakfast had been running about $40 a day, back then that was a lot! We took them out every day because Buddy would not ask them to eat cereal in the room when he really wanted a full breakfast. Imagine Buddy's face when my two youngest ate Rice Krispies in the box that day :rotfl2: I'm laughing today but that day :scared1: I could have killed them!

Once we arrived at isney there was a card in the room, we could have gotten 3 days on teh Big Red Boat but we had not known that. Buddy told me it was a good thing we did not know because by then he would have drowned all 4 of them if he was on a boat!

Now Glynis's Irish Soda Bread.... Oh my Goodness that is yummy!!! Alexis & I made that & the Irish Brown Bread. The brown bread hasn't even been sliced yet but Glynis's bread is almost gone!

Here's A hard at work! Nancy, recognize the apron? :goodvibes

Proud of her finished bread.

Sheryl- she is as cute as they come! Her bread looks amazing!

I had great success today at Motherhood Maternity.

Ann

That is the one that I liked :thumbsup2

I was miserable last night with the pain in my eyes.....I'm actually going to call another ENT today for a second opinion. I have seen a change when I stay ontop of 600mg Motrin's round the clock, at least I can sleep that way.

Good thing Lily knows how to rest, she can keep you there with her until you are well. Let us know the next opinion, I don't blame you for looking a little more. Maria, you have been sick for way too long, my friend

What a fun day! Will you share the recipes with us?

I'm sorry, I don;t have a toaster oven either.

DInner is leftovers, I have a lot left to use up.

Lindsay- I would not acknowledge the FB invite. I wonder if they are using it as a save the date?

I have thought on the "flip" side (I just kill me :rotfl2:) of the laid back wedding. My DS is seeing a girl who has children from 2 previous marriages. While I am okay with that, I like her a lot and it is clear that she and the girls adore my son, I am cringing about a wedding in the event they decide to marry. What do you do? Donny has never been married and I know he would want a ceremony. But Dawn has been married twice. The whole thing would be awkward at best, no etiquette book is going to have the right answer.

I don't know why your BIL is so socially inept but the relaxed wedding I can understand, but i would still not wear flip flops!

There's no way we could not go to the wedding, but I am ignoring the Facebook invitation.
Facebook wedding invitation! ???? OH MY!! I know alot of you are on FB and i think it serves its purpose in keeping people connected but my goodness, I think that is a bit much!!!

Here's A hard at work! Nancy, recognize the apron? :goodvibes

CUTE!!!

Ace is super cute too...I meant to "quote" his picture as well :)

WFD: Weight Watcher recipe of salsa slow cooker chicken..

DH bought that cutting board for me, it was some special kind of wood but now I can't remember what it was. :confused3

Is it bamboo?

Finished going through the Crock Pot cookbook, now let's see if I use any of the recipes I like. :sad2:

My crock pot winning recipe is the following:
~chicken breast
~enough salsa to cover the chicken
~sometimes at the very end I'll throw in some sliced black olives
~cook on low for 2 hours

Serve it with sour cream, grated cheesed, lettuce (all the taco fixings) and I put the thin pitas in the cast iron skillet with a little olive oil until they brown & bit & puff up.
Serve it family style on a really pretty platter &with a pitcher of sangria!

When my friend's sons graduated last year she asked me for the recipe & I was so embarrassed to tell her how simple/sad the recipe was I made it & brought it over (they live right across the street).

*Anyone hear from Lauren? If I could hear on the phone I would call her~

Lyndsay, please don't upset yourself anymore about the wedding. Ignore the FB invite go with a smile & be happy when the day is over. Take that day to enjoy your husband...pretend your on a date:)
Really relaxed weddings seem to happen often in Southern Florida. My BF says that she hasn't been to a wedding in anything other than a sun dress since she moved there:confused3 The last one she went to said "bring your bathing suit"....

Does anyone know if you can get the old Face Book page back? TIA

Today I ordered a Smithfield ham from QVC.....Paula Deen is now partnering with Smithfield, so I figured what the heck.
I'm going to do the Coca~Cola marmalade baste for the ham.

Sorry about all the posts....can you tell I'm home sick:rotfl:

Ok, everyone...drumroll please! First up are my first attempt at food porn. I'm nowhere near the photographer some of you are, but what the heck. If you squint, you might be able to see that it's really food:rotfl: .
