The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Ellen - I hope Lily starts to feel more normal soon. It's hard to get used to sharing attention. Is your back better? I hope so!

Alison and Brandi - Maybe I got my weekends mixed up! Sorry. You could cook Asian next weekend if you prefer.

Kimmar - You mentioned something about ignoring carbs on another thread. It gave me the idea of doing a Carb Free meal next month. Plus I think I'm going to go as carb-free as possible for February. The only exception will be Chinese New Year; which is the 19th Feb. Otherwise, I'm going to pull out my vegetarian cookbooks and figure out as many meals as possible for Feb.

It's drizzly rain this morning. This weather is unexpected. We were expecting blue skies and only a 20% chance of rain. So glad that I spent Saturday and Sunday in the garden clearing up what I wanted to clear up. We are having someone come in this weekend to put in a cat run along one side of the house. DH couldn't understand why I started to do the clearing up activity on Friday night after I got home from work. He wasn't too pleased when I pushed him out yesterday to help with the heavy lifting either. Oh well. It's done now and all ready for work to start.

Weather here is not nice, snow, ice, fog....etc etc etc

Happy Monday all, it's a new beginning again.

Kimmar ~ I thoroughly enjoyed your trip report. And it really sounded like DH half way enjoyed it too. :lmao:

PIO ~ Your cat run sounds amazing to me.
Your meal looked really good. I even think I could do that.

Alison ~ It really sounds like you and Fran have turned a corner and are feeling better. :cool1:

Brandi ~ This storm is going to be awful. Please stay safe and check in when you can. Prayers are with you!

I know there is NO way I will be able to ever go carb free. This country girl doesn't even have any desire to. I do eat very healthy - at least by my standards - so I will just sit back and watch you all.

We had the boys yesterday and had a great time. Matthew came home to see Harper and drove the extra distance and was here all night. We all went to church and after services the boys were here till about 7:00. They just make me laugh so much. They are like a dose of happy pills.

Marty had to go back to work for a bit today and Stephanie was a bit anxious, but she will be fine. Harper is a week old today and it will just better and more normal for them. At least Lilly bug is settling down a LOT.

WFDT ~ tacos and all the fixins'

Make it a great day all!

Happy Monday!

It is snowing here, but it is not sticking. I even came into work today. I will leave early, since it is supposed to start again this evening around commuting time, so I will need an early start.

Tomorrow could be a bad day weather wise, but tomorrow is my work from home day, so I will be warm and snug in my house. Hopefully David will just stay home also.

Glad to see everyone is getting better and having fun.

Alison - Low Carb will be better. :thumbsup2 But I remembered that I might have said that we would do a Pioneer Woman type meal for the next one because Ellen wasn't doing the Asian meal one. So, let's put in the Low Carb for March. :thumbsup2

Brandi - I hope you stay safe! The weather does not sound nice at all.

Ellen - Let's do a Pioneer Woman style meal next. That way, you can play and show us how! And if we do a Low-Carb meal next, will that be okay with you?
I'll post pictures of the cat run when it's done.
You stay safe as well!

PIO the weather is not bad at all, this was a case of all hype on our end.

I am hearing from some of my friends in NJ and NY and ME and they got it worse, but still not as expected.

So I was home today with David, we were working but at least home so it was nice.

WFDT? Turkey burgers with provolone on whole-wheat buns, steamed broccoli, and sweet potato fries (not fried though)....

....yeah, except for the 'getting sick' part....and the constant calls from home....and the colder weather on the last day.....and....

So I think I can pull this one off, but I think I need a little clarification. If nothing else, I use her recipe for sloppy Joes, so I can make that, but if you have a different meaning please elaborate.

...PiO, love the pix of the noodle soup - looks dee-LISH!

I'm not a big fan of her show either, but her recipe for sloppy Joes is pretty good, so I'll make that.

We actually like the show Farmhouse Rules better.

....are you familiar with the show: How to Find a Tag Fairy and Tell her to Change My Tags ?? popcorn:: I think it's on Lifetime if I'm not mistaken....

Good morning my dear friends,

I am so sorry I just dropped off, but this week has been super busy. I needed to get the Monthly Reporter out, it was payroll and bill week, year end stats are due tomorrow, and the Directory is published. From here on out my days and weeks should be a whole lot easier. Then Lent starts!! YeeHaa!!

PIO ~ Love the idea for February. I love her show! I guess because it is a lot like the way I cook. She actually has things I have in my own cupboards. This I can do!!

Kimmar ~ Heck here you are complaining for the Tag Fairy to change your tags and I would like to just have one. I am the only one here without one. :rotfl2: :sad2: :confused3

Alison ~ I think what PIO is saying - for clarification - something not so fancy. I think Ree and Nancy also fix things we all can relate to. I love Farmhouse Rules also.

Brandi ~ I have been thinking of you and David and was hoping you dodged the brunt of this storm. I think a lot of people did. But I would rather plan for the worst and have it be mild instead of no planning/warning and be unprepared. Stay safe!

Like I said before I have just been swamped at work but truly after this week I should be back to normal. Thank the GOOD Lord!!

Stephanie and Harper are learning to get along. :p Actually things are going really good. Lilly even went to dance last night. It is just amazing what a week will do. I have stayed away - well as much as I can - to give them their space and for them to figure it all out. I did go up on Tuesday. They knew I was coming and I walked in and played with Lilly, we read a book and then I rocked Harper and sang to her. After about an hour I went back home. Marty and Stephanie were a bit taken aback when I left so soon. But I told them, I loved them, but I really did just come to see the girls for awhile. I needed some snuggle time. I can only go about 4 or 5 days without seeing Harper, as she changes so fast, but I do NOT want to be a bother either. Marty is still home but will be going back to work and out of town on Feb. 9 and Stephanie has asked me to be there with her at night for a few day. Of course I will go and help out.

WFDT ~ Lasagna, garlic bread sticks and a green salad.

Make it a great day!

Ellen, I so understand the snuggle time. Sounds like things are starting to get "Normal" and everyone is settling in.

Hope this week gets better for you.

I think you've got the wrong channel. If you've been hanging out on Lifetime, it's no wonder you've been missing the TF.

You should try the Community PBS channel. :thumbsup2
