The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Good morning ladies,

Brandii ~ Menopause hasn't been so bad. The weight gain has been the hardest. But like I said yesterday, I am ok where I am and feel great.
Elizabeth has started eating "clean". I have ordered the new book 10 day - Green Smoothie Cleanse and Doug and I both like what we are seeing. I think eating clean is a really good thing. I love vegetables and really have cut back on my red meat, but there is no way I could go completely with out. I still think moderation and portion control is the key to healthy living and forever weight control.

PIO ~ I hope you finally got to sleep last night. Is it getting cooler there? We still haven't had many nice days here yet. I think there has only been a handful of days that I haven't needed a coat. But I have lived here all of my life and know that when it does get hot it is going to be brutal.

Alison ~ My Momma had colon cancer so I have been having the colonoscopy since I was 45. I totally think the prep is way worse that the procedure. YUCK!! Bless Fran, but it is a necessary evil and does save lives. This time tomorrow it will all be over.

I am feeling SO much better today. I was so wiped out yesterday and just felt lousy. I went home right after work and laid down. I was still asleep when Doug got home at 5:30. Slept pretty good last night and woke up feeling 100% better. Actually I don't feel like I have a cold at all. Hopefully it was a fast mover and I am on the mend. Like I said - I don't have time to be sick.

WFDT ~ I have no idea - I am going to have to punt tonight. It just might be get what you can. The lawn needs mowed and Ethan has a ball game. Heck it might just be a bag of popcorn at the game. Oh wait - they sell hotdogs too. Yep, that will do for dinner. DONE!!

Make it a great day!

good morning everyone.

Things are going well here, and I settling right into the new job. Already got a kudo "that is a great ides, not sure why we did not think of the before".

WFDT - no idea. Our plans got messed up last night, one of our friends that lives in Fl, flew in unannounced and we all went to dinner last night.

Happy Friday!!

Brandi ~ I am not surprised at all that they love you!! I have to remember with our new pastor coming not to say "We've never done it that way before". They say that that is the worst thing you can say when facing something new. I so agree!! Good for you!

Love and hugs to all the rest of you!!

Ethan won their game last night 8 - 4. It was a miserable game though. It was freezing and windy. We just about froze to death. That is so wrong!! But the boys were happy and that is all that matters.

Tomorrow the girls (Elizabeth & Stephanie) are hosting a Bridal Shower for Katlin. They have worked so hard and it should be so much fun. Katlin's Mom is with her, helping with the wedding and helping her get settled in their new apartment, so she will be able to be here also. I can't wait.

WFDT ~ Grilled steaks, sweet potatoes and tomato salad.

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Congratulations to Ethan and the team!

Speaking of freezing, tomorrow the weather here is high of 58 and 100% chance of rain, and we are having a family picnic, we tried to find a rain date, but not everyone could make, so we are holding this rain or shine.

The shower sounds like fun, please post a picture or two of the shower.

WFDT - Taco salad, I use TVP for the ground meat, and David is good with it.

Saturday afternoon!

Ellen - it's definitely colder here. We are waking up to temps in the low 50's. But the days are still warm'ish. I just wish it would rain more. YAY for Ethan.

Brandi - Way to go with the new job!

Alison - Hope everything is well with you and Fran.

Life just goes so quickly these days. Between work, home and photography, I barely find time for my boys these days. This year, I've been working hard at getting two guitar pieces up to speed so that I can record them for 'graduation'. They are the Suzuki book 3 and book 4 levels for guitar. I figured it was time to get them out of the way given that I started book 6 this year. I'm definitely heading into advance guitar territory now.
Tonight, we're heading out to DS' school. They put on a school musical every year and we like to go and support them. Here's hoping that the show is good. It normally is of a high standard, so I expect it to be good.

WFDT? I've got ingredients to cook one of those Asian style chicken stews. Just spending time catching up on the Dis before heading to go cook.

It's Monday AGAIN!! Funny how that happens.

The shower was a complete success. Just between you and me - I was worried. Stephanie (God love her) is a last minute, under pressure, sort of worker. Elizabeth and I are so the opposite. We would have had lists, plans and it would have been organized weeks ago. Stephanie was pretty much in charge as it was at her office (in their meeting room). I kept asking what I could do and she would say, "Oh nothing". I would ask her is she wanted help with the games or food and she would say (even up to last Wednesday), "Well I really don't know what I am doing yet". Damn near drove Elizabeth and I crazy. But we soldiered on and we were both VERY impressed with what she did. It was a lovely day and we had a lot of fun. It was perfect - I don't think we could have asked for anymore. Elizabeth and I should know that she works best under pressure, cuz it was great.

Brandi ~ Did you see my pictures of the shower on FB?
Here's to another great week.

PIO ~ I am so impressed with your guitar. Good for you!! I am so not musically inclined. I love music and have always said "God, really messed up with me as I love to sing". But people hearing me - not so much.

Alison ~ Hi sweetie, I hope all is well with you and Fran.

Well the sun isn't shining today but the temperature is going to be in the 80's. But the humidity has set in and we are forecasted for sever storms today and tornados tomorrow. We shall see!! Oh the joy of living in Tornado Alley.

WFDT ~ Rib Eyes, roasted potatoes and green salad.

Make it a great day!

Good Morning all.

Ellen - I did see the pictures, and it looked like fun. I am so glad everything turned out, even if it was a little stressful for you and Elizabeth. I am a planner also.

PIO - A gree with Ellen, I am not musical, I always say I am really good at the radio, I make beautiful music come out of it.

Alison - I am loving the trip report, it is of course making me want to be at the F&G festival.

We went to a crawfish boil on Saturday in the rain and cold, and we had a great time, the boiled over a 100 pounds, had them flown in from Louisiana.
Sunday, we had to buy a new fridge, so we spent the morning doing some research and headed out to Home Depot, and it will be delivered on Thursday.
I can tell my Wednesday evening and Thursday morning are going to be fun moving everything out of the fridge and freezer.

Here is the new one. http://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-Elect...rator-in-Stainless-Steel-LDC24370ST/204708404

It is replacing a GE side by side, I just hope I can live without water in the door......

FB is so weird. Brandi I saw your pictures, but Ellen I did not see yours. Regardless I'm glad you both had a good weekend!

Two DIS friends were here for the weekend. Well I should say for Saturday. We drank our way around Disney.

Fran and I are trying to beat a cold, but not having great luck.

I have no idea what is for dinner. Last night we got take out chinese.

Alison - I did see your pictures with drinks from around Disney this weekend. Did you have fun?

WFDT? - It is meatless monday here, so I think we have taco salad on the menu

Well we did not have salad we had black bean burgers (morningstar brand)

But I did add the avocado to the burgers and it was much much better.
I have got hooked on these little cherry tomatoes, I am not sure the brand, but they are organic and so darn sweet, they are almost like grapes.

I think I ate a pound of them yesterday, just snacking on them

Today we might have sunshine for the first time all month. and the temp is jumping to 82 degrees, a 30 degree swing, I am sure no one around ere will get sick from this

Happy day all,

Brandi ~ My sister-in-law grows the best little grape tomatoes. I love them, and like you, I eat a ton of them. They are so good. I can't wait for them each year. Heck I am just ready for a tomato that tastes like a tomato.

Alison ~ hummmmm that is strange that you didn't see the pictures of the Bridal Shower. It was a great time!!
I so hope you and Fran start feeling better, you both have been sick for too long. Mine lasted just a week and I'm now back to 100%.
I loved your pictures of your drink around DL.

We got rain last night, but nothing like they did to the East of us. Actually it was a beautiful night with NO wind. We worked out in the yard and Doug's dad showed up and we sat outside for awhile. There aren't any mosquitos yet so it was an enjoyable night. We even slept all night with the windows open. BLISS!! We are under a thunderstorm watch through 7pm for today, but right now it's really nice out.

WFDT ~ Grilled chicken, roasted squash and fresh pineapple.

Make it a great day!

Good morning all,

Yes, it is still morning here, at least for another 25 minutes. I have been super busy this morning so this is the first I have been able to get in.

I have to tell you about Ethan's baseball game last night. OH my it was a doozy! We were down 6-0 after the first inning. The 3rd inning we rallied with 5 points. The 5th inning they were up 11-5 and since the boys are only allowed to play for 1 1/2 hours they hustled to get another inning in. We were home so got to bat last. That last inning those boys got the bats a hitting and ended up winning 12-11. It was just amazing to watch. Ethan had a base hit in the 6th to get things started and brought in 3 runners. I was so proud of the boys, they never once thought they were going to lose. So exciting!!

{HUGS} to all of you!!

We are again in for some sever weather tonight. It has been forecasted for the last 2 days/nights and we have only gotten rain. Which is good, but for the next 7 days we are under the gun, and I bet we will get it sooner or later.

WFDT ~ Pork Chops, cornbread stuffing with brussel sprouts and cucumber salad.

Make it a great day!

Howdy y'all

Well we went a whole day without rain yesterday! I can hardly believe it.
last night for dinner we had roasted broccoli, sliced cucumber, and bells, and grape tomatoes, David also had a grilled Chicken Breast.

It is so much fun to watch kids having fun. When it becomes more than fun, is where the issues start, so glad they won and you got to see Ethan get his 3 RBIs.

WFDT - roasted cauliflower, sliced cucumber, and bells, and grape tomatoes, David also had a grilled Chicken Breast.

Afternoon all,

We are so busy here at the church today that I almost forgot to check in. We had major internet problems after the storm last night, a funeral at 11, ladies here now putting the Reporter, our monthly newsletter together, one Circle in the fellowship hall and another group putting school kits, health kits and cleaning buckets together. I am off tomorrow as I have a physical, and 2 other appointments scheduled. Monday we are closed because of Memorial Day and on Tuesday afternoon, Pastor Dyton, Jan and I leave at noon for Annual Conference in Topeka Kansas till Saturday. I am trying to get 2 weeks of work done today. I do have the bulletins ready so other than that I am set.

Brandi ~ I just love your meals. I can't wait for our Farmer's Market to open and we can have more meals like you. YUM!!

We are under the gun with bad storms again today and really bad tomorrow. We are to get rain every day through next week. We checked the rain gauge this morning and we got .78. I really do hate this time of year.

I probably won't be in again until maybe next Tuesday and if not then, the next Monday. I will have my IPad so I might pop in real quick. You all play nice.

WFDT ~ I am going out to eat with some girlfriends. Doug is golfing, so I am playing. These friends are good for my soul.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen,

Have a great time and stay safe with this crazy weather. I saw tornadoes all over Texas, were y'all ok last night?

Hope your physical goes well today and all your numbers come back good.

I just got my numbers back and I am doing great...

BP was 99/57
HDL = 72
LDL = 68
Try = 54
Chol = 135

Dr told me to keep doing what I am doing, but I need to lose some weight. Duh... I know that part.

BTW, hope everyone is in good spirits and good health....

Alison.....I think you're starting to watch Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries. I have over 100 pictures that I took at the costume exhibition at what is Aunt Prudence's house in the show!!

It's been a while since we've had food porn on this thread.

These were taken last weekend when we caught up with a friend for breakfast.

I opted for the Chia Porridge. It was stunning!

DH had the green breakfast.

DS ordered pulled pork eggs benedict.

And our friend had the salmon.

I think we'll be going back to this place!!!
