The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Morning Y'all,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRETCHEN!!!

Laura, I hope Caili is okay'ed for school & no one else gets sick!

Kat, Prayers for your dr appt this morning!

Lauren, Do you know for sure that your SIL didn't order it? It does take a long time to get it done.

Aimee, I'm glad you feel rested!

Nancy,:rotfl2: I love that mental pic of us gals hoisting our drinks while riding on a scooter! We might just have to rent one even if Kat & I feel good, just for the pic!

Janice, Good luck with your car!

I've gotta run, a ton of stuff to get done today. Some good like getting my nails done, some errand running & still packing. No idea what's for dinner.

Good morning all, hope everyone is well.

Happy Birthday Gretchen!

Sheryl- Have fun getting ready for your trip, I think that's part of the fun.

Glynis- I agree, your dad deserves a celebration, have a great time.

Lauren- I'm sorry for your loss and that cancer has affected your family again. How is your neice doing?

Nancy- That bread sounds really good. It does seem like a lot of sugar in the honey butter, I never add sugar when I make it, but I do about 50/50 honey to butter.

Laura- Hope Caili's even better today. I am making the kiddo's jellfish costume, I'm going to try and post a link.

Kathy and Sheryl- I have a wonderful image of the two of you on scooters, I don't know if I'd want to see an actual image, the one in my head is to good.

Dinner tonight is soy-ginger-lime marinated pork tenderloin, brown rice and a veg.

I wish I was going to disney soon like so many of you, but I just booked our train tickets to go in February so I'm pretty excited about that.

Off to the grocery store, have a good day all.

Happy Birthday Gretchen!!

Glynis, that story about your niece is so scary! I am glad that she is OK. Did the police find the men?

Kathy, you'll have a great time, even with a scooter! You don't want to wreck your ankle. Plus, you'll probably have a nifty cup holder. It will come in handy for Food and Wine! :rotfl:

Dinner last night was roasted chicken with herbs and pancetta under the skin, roasted potatoes, and salad. I have pics but have not uploaded them yet.

Tonight I am making pork chops (for John) chicken (for me) with a honey mustard sauce, sauteed apples, sweet potato cakes, and more salad.

Wonderful news!!! You go girl:thumbsup2

Lauren, I would be really angry about that headstone.......:headache:

Ellen, safe travels.

DM is having work issues, so we are having travel issues for Disney again. I will keep you posted about what we decide.

Kathy Glad your ankle is getting better, though riding a scooter might be alot of fun. I picture you both having scooter races.:rotfl2:

Well my car is not going to be cheap but thats what savings are for right. I need a bag of chocolate ;) But it is all fixable. I'll get my baby car back this afternoon. Poor car is only 10 years old.

I think chinese takeout will be dinner. Unless I can get inspired before tonight.

That's great news!

Robin -- I love the costume.

Lauren -- I would be upset too. Good luck with the showing today!

To all of you who are packing and running errands for vacation -- I'm jealous!

Caili got the okay to return to school. She still has some congestion in her lungs, so skating is out this afternoon, but she doesn't need any more medication. I still feel sick. I think I am going to make spaghetti and meatballs, salad and garlic bread for dinner.

Maria - NO, NO, NO, issues please. You have to be there or we'll hunt you down woman and if I have a scooter I'll be even faster.

Janice - Chocolates and Chinese should do the trick.;) I'm not ruling out the possibility of a scooter, what normally works for most people doesn't work on me so your vision of a scooter race may take place!:rotfl:

Laura - I'm so happy Caili was cleared to return to school but I was sure hoping you'd be feeling better today.

Maria & Kathy, you have to go to WDW I was going to put you in charge of Kathy! ;):lmao:;):lmao: Kathy, just an FYI ..DH thinks he would fit right in with you. You scooter post had us chuckling.

:flower3:Gretchen, Happy Birthday...celebrate, relax and enjoy your day!:flower3:

Laura, glad to hear Caili is better.

Sheryl, enjoy getting your nails done! I am jealous...maybe I can get myself in for a pedi before my trip too.

Robin, love the jelly fish costume. So clever.

------
WFD- BBQ pork ribs, mixed veggies, fries or rice pilaf.

I hope all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers regarding my cousin's passing. She had been sick for a while and just a couple weeks ago they found what looked like cancer in the stomach and liver. All too familiar. We got a chance to visit Charles' grave. I am ...my sil has been too busy to get a marker. My poor brother still has to paper marker the cemetary marks the grave with. I could say alot of stuff but I wont.

I'm so sorry

Thanks for the Birthday wishes here and on Facebook. I'm running through quickly this morning since I'm way behind and have so much to do before we leave on Saturday. I'm taking Friday off to pack and to get some much needed things done instead of running around and not getting to sleep until the wee hours on the day before vacation so I'm trying to cram all my work in before I leave.

Anyway, hugs to all of you.

Happy Birthday!!!!!

I wish I was going to disney soon like so many of you, but I just booked our train tickets to go in February so I'm pretty excited about that.

I'm glad she was able to go back today so you can rest!!

Today has been crazy busy!! When you start the days work at 3pm, you know it's going to be a loooooooooong day. Half the staff is gone - no, take that back - MORE than half the staff is gone. There are TWO of us here, I was the only one here yesterday, so I'm trying to cover too many people's jobs who left on a CRUISE without things covered and are unreachable. Grrr.

I am making chicken adobe tonight. It doesn't sound good but it's what I thawed.

Glynis, that story about your niece is so scary! I am glad that she is OK. Did the police find the men?

Yes, they did! They were all booked for aggravated assault. I know there will be a trial, and Andrea will have to testify. Ick!

Hooray!!!! You are going to have such a great time!!!

Dinner tonight will be a corned beef and cabbage casserole. Alan is hunting again, and I think the kids will eat this. Cross your fingers.

DOn;t work too hard, you have a trip to enjoy!

.

I did not use as much sugar as it called for. It was really good, kind of like the butter from Texas roadhouse.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She must be thrilled to be back to school! I am sorry that you are sick, I would not cook, when I am sick I cannot even think about the kitchen.

We are having a chicken dish that Welby made for Buddy. SHe got the recipe from a local homestyle restaurant adn think Buddy will enjoy it. I have mashed potatoes adn broccolli to go with it. I have a lemon cake from Tastefully simple in the oven.

I ran errands today and kind of pooped out when I got home. I gave one coat of varnish to the front porch yesterday, just need to do the top half of the posts. I would like to get the second coat done tomorrow if it is nice.

Has anyone made a buttermilk pound cake? Buddy said a coworker would like pound cake so I found this in the Land o Lakes cookbook, it looks good but I have never made one.

:sad2: When is this going to end? You must be ready to scream!

It's pretty much okay right now, I just feel like I am working in the Dark Ages, computer wise. :rotfl:

 Sorry to hear of your computer problems. We are getting ready to upgrade to MO 2007 here and we are also moving my databases into Access. (They are currently in a program called Q&A which stopped existing a number of years ago.) I know very little about the program and am a little nervous about the switch. I hope they can get you back up and running with as little damage as possible.

It should be okay, I will just work on it a little each day. We are getting a new computer system that will make working in Access for registrations no longer needed. Our billing system, which is on another database entirely, is in the process of being replaced. Once that starts the drinking will commence in earnest. :scared1: :rotfl:

WooHoo! Ortho did X-rays, all negative. The bursa sac is inflamed so he gave me a cortisone shot and says I should be good to go on Saturday!!!!:yay:

Now take it easy woman! ;)

Dinner tonight will be Famous Daves, I have a meeting.

Nancy The buttermilk pound cake is really good. I also have a recipe for carmel apple buttermilk cake if you want. The cake part is just a buttermilk cake with cooked apple filling and a homemade carmel frosting. It sounds like alot of work but it really is not difficult.

I don't want to be part of the car breakdown club anymore. Of course if you want to start winning lots and lots of money I could be persuaded to join that club :rolleyes1:rotfl2:

Tonight dinner is altered. Alex wants his leftover porcupine meatballs and I will have stuffed chicken breast brocolli and a big glass of wine.

Kathy was that what I heard earlier? Are you still watching Hell's kitchen? who are you rooting for? I like the guy with the cast.
