The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Laura – How is Caili this morning? I sure hope she doesn’t end up with pneumonia again this year.

Lauri – Glad to hear you won’t be without your car too much longer, sorry it’s going to be $$$$.

Lauren – Your house and your “forest” are both lovely! God bless your BIL!!!!

Nancy – My ankle is a bit better, not sure if I should still call and try to get the cortisone shot??? So glad you guys had a nice dinner out last night.

Ann – Love “Chubba bubba”….:rotfl:

Steph – Of course you’re going to worry about your baby, that’s what we Moms do, but he will be fine and I’m sure he will have a super time. Enjoy your “girl” time! I’m getting my hair done today too!

Ellen – Continued good thoughts for Matthew!!!!!!!:cheer2:

WFD - Take out!

Ellen, sending good vibes and prayers to Matthew. How are Mom's nerves holding out, is this a nail biting situation!!

Aimee, I was thinking the same thing as Steph when I ready about the constant internal bleeding. ???!?!?!? How you keep the pace you do amazes me, you are a strong woman both physically and spiritually.

------

Well, Emma's clothes did fit...thank goodness. Off to shower then to my parents. BBL tonight.

Same here my friend.

Good morning all, hope everyone is well.

Ellen- Good luck to Matthew, hope it's a little warmer for him today.

Ann- Has Ron every cleaned the stove after panfrying meatballs, that's why I like to bake them. My basement needs a bit of work too, I'd love to make it into a playroom but I have my work cut out for me.

Stephanie- I think a movie night sounds perfect, if my husband has to travel for work (doesn't happen very often) we always do that. I love when it's the three of us, but it's nice for her to get a turn with us seperatly too.

Nancy- I'm glad you had a nice dinner out, Buddy's dinner sound delicious.

Lauren- Have fun tonight, good luck to your brother in law. Thanks for posting the link, add me to the list of people who couldn't figure out the other one. I miss the woods from the backyard at my parents house, is your new property wooded?

Laura- Hope Caili's feeling better this morning, at least she has a long weekend coming up.

Gretchen- When do you start building your new home, it will be nice to have fun exciment going on.

Today is my husbands ninth anniversary working at his company so we are having lobster for dinner (we're actually having it because it's on sale for $5 a pound, but he doens't need to know that) and I'm going to make a butternut squash soup I saw on Good Eats the other night. Have to find something for the kiddo, she doesn't do lobster.

See you all later.

Good morning! I'm leaving in just a few minutes to go bowling. Gotta love my Fridays!

Lauren - I love the pictures of your house. So pretty!!!

Ann - Babies grow so fast, don't they? Timothy is 10 months old and is comfortably wearing 12 month sizes.

Nancy - Sound like your night out was just what you needed! Continued prayers for you and Buddy!

Ellen - Matthew is in my thoughts and prayers, and I'm sending all the pixie dust I can his way! Love hearing the updates!!!

Stephanie - A mother/daughter movie night sounds perfect!!! Enjoy it! Pretty soon, she'll want her friends and not her mom! Sigh! Katie's getting to that point. At least I still have some little ones that want me!

Dinner tonight will probably be mac and cheese for the kids. I've got to convince Alan to take me out for dinner. I had a very un-satisfactory frozen Thai meal last night in between p/t conferences and a round table for Scouts. Now I'm in the mood for some real Thai food!

have a good day, all!!!

Aimee - I hope they can get your iron stabilized. Is the anything the can do to control the bleeding?

Get the Crohns flare under control...

I am cringing at your car repair.

Aimee, Before and after pics??? What style are you going for? I got stopped the other day in Kohls about my cut...I guess it looks good. I hate doing it lately and would love to cut it really short.

I am seeing a new stylist that was recommended to me so I am going to give her the option of suggesting some things, or just wacking it off  I have had the stacked bob for awhile, it's soooooooo easy and looks put together plus pretty flattering. It's just grown out and now won't do anything due to the layers. I like short hair - I'm ready to chop it all back off!

Have fun at the concert tonight!!

A really quick fly by - I need to get to work.

Matthew update -

They called the tournament late afternoon because of rain. He got 12 holes in and will finish the last 6 early this morning. Darn it, he was doing so good I hope this doesn't mess him up. He sounded upbeat and was satisfied so far, so all is good.

I will let you know as I know, thanks everyone for yor good wishes and good thoughts. Please keep them coming.

I will BBL

:woohoo: Matthew! HOpe he finishes well!!

Oooh, lobster sounds good!!

Y'all, the bleeding sounds worse than it is. When the disease is active/flaring, there is a small amt of bleeding that goes on on a regular basis. That combined with my "childbearing age" means keeping up iron levels can be difficult... I don't feel it or anything :goodvibes

DH is ticking me off - I am off completely today and tomorrow, but next weekend I have another retreat. I thought we could spend time together (and I plan to go car shopping :rolleyes1) but he just called and wants to stay another night and play in a golf tournament tomorrow. I'm  but told him to do what he thought was best

IF he comes home, we are having goat cheese hamburgers with sweet potato fries. IF he decides to stay gone, I'm going to find sushi.

Hey y'all, I am so far behind, I'm sorry I can't keep up. A's home with her Dad today. I'm supposed to be washing, packing etc. But I overslept again & sinuses have me in a fog. Here's what I caught, but sure I missed a bunch.

Gretchen, I'm glad that dr visit & bra shopping is over! Glad you had wine & cheese in the house! That's my go-to for a bad day!

Laura, I really hope Caili gets over this! No more sick kids here on our WFDT!!! :wizard:

Lauren, You're house looks great!! All the work y'all have been doing shows really nice. I hope you get a quick sale at a humongous price!

Aimee, I hope the dr can get your iron levels up. I soo hope your DH understands the "Do whatever you think is right" wife remark! Sometimes husbands can be so dense!:laughing:

Kathy, How's your ankle? The way I'm feeling this week, it's likely I'll be renting a scooter by the weekend. You can share with me.

Ellen, I guessing Matthew is in a golf tournament. Good luck too him!

I'm really looking forward to next week, if I can get ready that is! I NEED this vacation!

Dinner last night was grilled steak, baked potatoes & a chickpea salad. I literally had almost no veggies in the house. So I took the one lone tomato I had threw it in with chickpeas, onions, fresh herbs doused it with lemon juice & evoo. Thank goodness I remember all of Becky's pics, that chickpea salad she does saved us from eating a totally unhealthy meal!;)

Tonight DH has to pick up Angelina & Josh from the airport if I get done to go with him, we'll probably eat out or takeout.

Laura called and Caili does have pneumonia. She is waiting to hear the results from the chest x-ray. I'm sure she will be on with more details later. Caili had pneumonia at this exact time last year too...it's weird.

Going to my parents for family friday lunch feast. I have to stop at Target first to return a couple of clearance summer things I pictured up for Emma. I bought two outfits for WDW in 6 months and I do not think they are going to fit. I have to try them on Chubba Bubba today and see how I make out.

Have fun!
Chubba Bubba :goodvibes

Scott and Matthew are out of town on their "Guys Weekend, NO stinky girls allowed" (in the words of my 3 year old).

Stinky girls :rotfl2: Marisa would have spies all over!

Enjoy your Mom/Daughter night!

. He sounded upbeat and was satisfied so far, so all is good.

This is :thumbsup2

I have room in my freezer;)

I'm really looking forward to next week, if I can get ready that is! I NEED this vacation!

.

You really have had a lot lately

Ann, I'm done with much of the purging in the attic but if Greg doesn't go into his portion of the attic this weekend he will be left with nothing...I have had enough. Next project the garage, I want to put a small studio in there....we shall see.
Enjoy lunch at your parents.

Lauren, we decided not to go to Bruce tonight. The rain has me concerned....knowing me I'll get sick for our trip. I need to be satisfied with last week & put my big girl panties on. Have a great time!!!!:goodvibes
Finally was able to see your house photos....you've done some great work & it would be hard for me to leave that property......

Kat, ankle report please.

Becky & Laura....POOR CAILI!!!! Hopefully it was caught very early & the meds will jump right in. Prayers for Caili.

Ellen, still thinking of Matthew! Glad he is upbeat, a positive attitude works wonders. Please keep us posted.

Lauri, glad the car is coming back but I now the price stings:scared1:

Aimee, prayers continued for you. I hope you are feeling better today.

BBL

Becky - Thanks for updating us. Prayers for Laura & Caili.:grouphug:

I have an appt with my Dr. for Monday morning, hopefully I will be getting a cortisone shot.

Lauri -- I'm sorry the car repair isn't going to be cheap. I have been postponing calling to make an appointment for mine.

Lauren -- Your house is beautiful! Have fun at the concert tonight.

Ann -- I'm glad the clothes still fit. Emma is getting big so fast!

Stephanie -- Enjoy your night! I know it is hard not to worry, but I'm sure Matthew will be fine and he'll have a great time.

Robin -- Enjoy your lobster!

Aimee -- I hope your DH figured out that what he is supposed to think is best is to get home!

Sheryl -- You definitely deserve this vacation. I'm glad Alexis is doing better.

Ellen -- Good luck to Matthew!

Unfortunately, Caili is not feeling better. I took her to the doctor, and it sounds like Caili has pneumonia. We had to go for a chest x-ray, and I am waiting to hear the results. This came on really fast -- she only started coughing yesterday -- so my mom is thinking it may be H1N1 related. I'll know more after I hear back from the doctor.

I'm not sure what we're having for dinner yet. It will have to be from ingredients I have in the house.

Oh Laura, I'm sad for Caili & you! Did they swab her for flu viruses? If she has it, call back & ask for the Tamiflu. A couple of Nola kids had it, both got tamiflu and it seemed to really help. Praying for Caili to get over this quickly. :flower3:

Alexis is doing well, she saw the dr this morning. He said to be aware that c-diff is hard to get rid off. Not to be surprised if it comes back when we finish this round of antibiotics. At the 1st sign of diarrhea, we'll have to send in a specimen. She may need several rounds of stronger antiobiotics. He said to be vigilant with the lactobacillus. Ugh. She was able to get the nasal flu vaccine today, even though she threw a fit over that. I guess she's just had enough of doctors.

Thanks all for the kind words on the house...I am going to miss it here too. Our new property backs to trees too but it is a smaller property. I wanted to be in a neighborhood where the kids can walk to their friends, etc.

I hope Caili gets better soon! Prayers for all. Hopefully with meds it will not linger.

Glad Alexis is doing good.

Good Luck Matthew!

OK, gotta run...Bon Jovi is going to be playing tonight too...and Bruce has a permit at the stadium until 1am!!!!

Have a great one all!

Well here is another Matthew update:

He didn't do as good on the 6 holes to make up from yesterday. I just knew he wouldn't!!:confused3 And instead of 18 holes today they only played 9. He shot a 41. Not real great but not a total waste either.

Now we have to just sit back and wait and see how the rest of the division did this week. We should know by the end of next week. I'll let you know when I know. Thanks so much for the good thoughts. It sure doesn't give us much time to get plane tickets or rooms if we are going. Oh well.]

Laura & Cali ~ I hope you caught it soon.

Lauren ~ Your house is so cute. I finally was able to see it.

Kat ~ rest the ankle!!!!!!!

Nancy ~ to you my friend

Ann ~ Bubba Chubba made me :goodvibes

Sheryl ~ You need to slow down or you will be exhausted before you even get gone. So glad to hear Alexis is feeling better.

Stephanie ~ enjoy your "girls" night.

Aimee ~ Your DH better come home if he knows what's good for him. ;)

Gretchen ~ I am so glad yesterday is just a memory. Bless your heart

Maria ~ You are my inspiration with the purging. You go girl!!

I will be in the kitchen all weekend canning apples, making apple pie filling, apple pies, applesauce and apple butter. I love this time of the year. Come Sunday my pantry shelves will be full. Let the snow blow - I am ready!!

WFDT ~ We are having the beef and dumplings we were going to have on Wednesday (date night - remember? ) glazed baby carrots and applesauce.

Have a great weekend my friends, and I will try to check in.

No he has no idea what a pain in the butt it is to fry them. Last time I fried a half dozen so he could have a sandwich the way he likes them but the rest went in the oven. Hello, I have two kids to chase instead of watching meatballs fry. ;)

Enjoy your 9th work anniversary lobsters! I saw my store had any size lobsters this week for 5.99 I was considering those myself. I am so excited the market I love is putting a new store right near me :cool1: !!! Prices aren't always the greatest but the food quality is.

Ellen, have fun cooking! Your house is going to smell heavenly.

--------

None of my brothers could make it today for lunch. DM made cream of broccoli soup an dwe order Italian grinders out. Needless today I am full and not cooking a big supper. DH may just have a frozen pizza and I'll have a muffin or cereal later.

Just a quick update -- Caili is improving. She is now awake and she had a little to eat, so I am hoping this really is just pneumonia. Who ever thought I would say that? Flu would be worse though.

BBL. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers!

Glynis, DM of course went over the grapenut udding recipe verbally while Emma was in my arms...so needless to say I could not write it down at the time. I ran out and forgot to write it. I promise I will next visit. All I remember is a quart of cream, 1/4 cup grapenuts, 4 eggs, salt, vanilla, etc. and she does not scald the milk first. Detailed recipe to follow...

No worries. The weather heated up here, so I'm not in the mood for a warm dessert anymore. I'll appreciate the recipe when it's cooler out! Thanks for thinking of me!

Poor Caili!!! Here's hoping it's "just" pneumonia! Although, when we went through the H1N1 stuff, the Tamiflu worked wonders on us all.

Ellen - Sorry Matthew didn't do as well as he wanted to! Hopefully, he did well enough to advance.

Sheryl - Alexis is still in my prayers. The bacteria sounds so hard to get rid of. Poor thing! I don't blame her for being fed up with doctors!

Well, I don't get my night out tonight. Alan wants to do some more elk hunting tonight. It's really his last night to do anything as we have family commitments all day tomorrow and Sunday. So, he's going to take some of the kids and hunt tonight, and then he'll take me out for dinner tomorrow night. I'll settle for that!

So, dinner tonight will be taco salad.
