The Week of 1/3/16

Looking for some advice/opinions on DL and DCA on during the week of January 3rd. We originally booked thinking crowds might have wound down from Christmas and kids going back to school, but as it get closer it's looking like it might be a pretty busy time. We'll be there 1/3 - 1/7.

Hours are out for Jan 4th, and DL is open with MM(on a Monday) until midnight. With many closures beginning Jan 11, do you think a lot of people will be cramming in a last visit to catch some things before they close? Christmas will still be up as well, will that be a major draw? What has been your experience in the past during this week?

Either way, we're super excited, cooler weather and the opportunity to see the Christmas decorations and shows will be fun, just wonder if we should alter our expectations for higher crowds.

I would expect to see fairly high crowds through the official end of the holiday season (so Wed, 1/6). There is usually a bump in crowds when the holiday AP blockouts end (1/3 for Deluxe and 1/4 for SoCal and SoCal Select) because those AP holders will return to the parks to see the holiday offerings one last time (the blockout start in mid-December) or for the first time (e.g., Three Kings Day Celebration). I do think there might a slight drop in crowds on the 7th (Thu) and then another surge on the weekend (Fri evening through Sunday) as folks come in to see things one last time before the closures on 1/11.

Normally, this is when things start to settle down, but January 6 is Three Kings Day, so there will be stuff up until then, and some of the Disneyland attractions will close down on January 10th, so I'm expecting it to be busy up until then.

I'm going to be there Jan 4th-14th so I'm hoping crowds will go away at least half of my trip...

We're planning to be there Jan. 6-10.

Figured it was the best window we were going to get between high crowds and closures (and one last time for Big Thunder Ranch BBQ).

I think you'll probably see a noticeable drop in crowds starting Monday (1/11) through Wednesday (1/13). There might be a slight uptick in crowds on Thursday as guests start to arrive for the Star Wars Half Marathon.

We'll be there 1/4 - 1/8. Do you know if the 3 DL hotels will still be fully decorated thru the 6th? Do decorations magically disappear over night in the parks? Thanks!
