We are arriving Dec.30 but not going to the parks until Jan.1. KTP has that week as "insane crowds" until the 4th. Does that sound like previous years? I thought the crowds dropped off after new years eve. I know that the marathon weekend is the next weekend, but he has crowds as "heavy" for that. Should I expect wall to wall people on the 1st-4th, equivalent to the "insane crowds" as the week between Christmas and New Year? Thanks for sharing any thought or experiences on that week!

From reports, it's not as bad that week after New Years as it is between Christmas and New Years. It's still heavy, though. As you said, there is marathon weekend here that causes a spike. There's also some schools which are out from Christmas until January 7. Those families may jump to Disney after the New Year, and fight the runners instead of fighting Christmas.

My two oldest are in college, and they don't go back until the 9th and 16th (two different schools), so you may have families with college-aged children, as well, though that's not as common

We have had it both ways. All depends on the way the days fall and when most schools resume. One year there was a clear drop off on Jan 1 and a couple years later the parks were still slammed on Jan 4 but dropped off on the 5th.
