Ok, so we've just changed our dinner booking from Jiko to the Wave.
I'm a little disspointed :sad1:, but we were planning on sharing a meal on the ddp at Jiko (As eating around epcot earlier in the day) so our thoughts were it was an expensive use of credits for just one shared meal.
When looking at menus the wave looked quite nice. It's one of our two anniversary nights out (thanks to my sister babysitting our three munchkins for us :teeth:). The other night we are eating at Tiffins so will still get an evening to get dressed up a bit.

So my questions are,
Does the wave have a nice atmosphere? I know it won't be as romantic as the signature restaurants but the food looks like it should be tasty. What do people think?

I've seen that they have changed the dessert options, no more triple mini desserts. Has anyone had the new items and what are the new options like?

Also on the disney website it shows the cheese and meat platter as a dessert option. Does that mean my husband can have this as his dessert? A good use of a credit if you can.

And has anyone got any sugestions for entrees they really enjoyed.

Thanks everyone, just trying to make myself feel better about our change...
Nearly just a month to go now :cool1:.

Food is good. There is no atmosphere to speak of (although I do like the bar area, it looks kind of Star Trek.)

I've never had dessert there. I also don't know what their policy is about ordering on DDP, but if it's on the dessert menu and it doesn't say it's for 2 people, it's very likely one person could order the cheese and meal platter as their dessert.

I personally love the atmosphere at The Wave. Its very nice inside. The food is REALLY GOOD!!!! Its honestly a hidden gem. One of my best meals last trip was at the wave. I believe the link in my signature has pictures of my meal at the wave last year. I highly recommend it!! Here are two pics i got from the internet. I love the atmosphere....

I agree with goofy about this being a hidden gem. This is one of my favorite places to eat in WDW. The food and service has always been great when I was there and love the bar area. In fact we were at Jiko this past August and I thought the Wave was better. I was actually very disappointed in Jiko and will not be going back there any time soon.

I love the Wave, too. I actually think it is one of the most romantic of the non-signature restaurants... like all Disney restaurants it can get loud depending on the day, but some tables can actually feel quite cozy. The menu changes, but I have always like their sustainable fish of the day entree. Their steak entrees have been good as well. And since it is your anniversary date night, you could also try to visit the bar at the California Grill for a pre/post dinner cocktail or glass of wine.

Happy Anniversary! :D

Here is the steak I had at The Wave last year. It was one of my best meals!!!! So tender and flavorful! :goodvibes And I agree about this place being romantic. I saw many couples dining here. A lot of couples choose this for their date night. ;)

NOTE1: On the check-in level of Contemporary, past Front Desk, then left. The dining entrées are a bit overpriced; service can be spotty, and food quality was only average. Unfortunately, nothing to write home about or that demands a second visit. One problem is food doesn't always come out as ordered, or hot. The restaurant is a quiet place to eat as it doesn't seem to draw the loud kids or uncouth adults. To us, it is an OK place to eat dinner, but nothing that rates a rave. The menu has American-type dishes versus something abstract or exotic. We thought Lamb Shank and locally-sourced Pork Tenderloin were very good, but were displeased with Oven Roasted Chicken and Beef Tenderloin. Trio Desserts, with three samples on same plate, are pretty tasty. The good side is that the bar is comforting and welcoming; a nice place to throw a few back. The eatery doesn't exude "Disney", but atmosphere is pleasant.
.
NOTE2: Above-average for dinner, but the breakfast buffet is one of WDW's best kept secrets for both price and quality, the other being Trails End in Fort Wilderness.

We had a nice dinner there, but too long ago to be likely to be useful.
The only reason it's not on our list this time, is that we want to try some signatures, and have an extra child, who will get a kick out of characters.

Thank you evergone you have made me feel a lot better about our change. :)

We ate there last week and it was hands down the best meal we had that week. Service was great, food was amazing. Wife got the tenderloin, I got the ribeye, both were incredible. The deserts didn't come in dishes too much bigger than what they used to (slightly bigger, but not much), probably why they are relatively inexpensive. You will really enjoy it. The walk into it is really cool, and I like the dining room. It's not quite the dim-lit ultra romantic type place, but it still has a nice ambiance.

I've only been to the bar and for breakfast. The bar area looks neat but the dinning room is kind of "meh".
The breakfast is really good and we had the place almost to ourselves.

The Wave is my favorite restaurant! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Great food. Great service!! I go to The Wave every chance I get!

Sorry, I'm going to be the dissenter here. We ate here for the first time last month. The atmosphere was ok, nothing special. DH had the fillet, I had salmon. His fillet was good, the salmon was disappointing. Our waitress was inattentive, I heard other waitstaff explaining specials much more than she did with us. Beverages took awhile to be refilled. It was just my DH & me, but were seated near several large, loud family groups. I had no problem with that at all- it's a family restaurant in Disney World. But it certainly didn't make the atmosphere romantic at all.

Might have been an off night, but we weren't impressed.

This is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. I'm gluten free and it was amazing. I've had other meals here as well and really enjoy it.
