The Wave or Chef Mickeys for adults?

My fiance and I are going to Disneymoon in October. We are staying at the Poly and was looking for a monorail restaurant for our first night. We are on the DDP and were looking for advice on which restaurant is better for a couple in their late 20's. Ive seen the pictures of both and think the wave would be a no brainer but Ill take a hit on the atmosphere if the food is significantly better at another restaurant. Thanks for any advice.

If you want fun, loud, and to be a kid again (although with average food) go to Chef Mickey's. It's still a Disney classic.

If you want a more adult meal in a subdued atmosphere with definitely good food go to the Wave.

If it were me, I'd take the Wave. After a hectic day of traveling and airport food I need quiet and a good meal.

For a couple, I would recommend the Wave. It is not a buffet. We enjoyed the meal we had there. We had a drink at the bar while we waited for our table (we were early with the plan to do just that).
It doesn't have characters but it was just what we wanted.

I'd recommend The Grand Floridian Cafe for dinner over either of those. We've LOVED every meal we've had there.

We weren't too keen on their dessert, but we honestly didn't have room for any. (There are plenty of other options for something sweet after dinner in the monorail resorts, anyhow.)

Assuming you are only looking at 1 credit meals, I'd do the Wave, Grand Floridian Cafe or Kona Cafe. I found the food at Chef Mickey's to be horrible and not really nice for your first honeymoon meal. It's great for kids, and I'd go for them but that's it.

The Wave is one of favorite restaurants in all of WDW. I highly recommend it especially for an adult only dinner and it's a nice relaxing start for your first night. Feel free to check out my review with pics:

Loved The Wave..it was a last minute addition to our dining at xmas week and we were able to call from the resort and get same day adrs. Meal was excellent(the no-sugar added dessert trio is amazing!). Nice atmosphere and a quick walk or monorail from MK. We plan on returning next trip. DH is now 20, so usually go as a couple to wdw without him, and we would not venture into chef Mickeys chaos again if our lives depended on it...other character meals are still a go like 1900PF breakfast, but no more Chef Mickeys....

I agree. We had our wedding lunch at The Wave and we've gone back there each visit. Like most other restaurants things change a little between visits, but I haven't been disappointed with it. It's also nice and quiet.

for an adult dinner, I would go to The Wave. Chef Mickey food is bad and we just go to Chef Mickey for the character experience b/c we have gone in the past and after the dinner at Chef Mickey we always have to order room service b/c the food was really bad.

For our first night dinner (we stay at Poly) I would do Ohanas..That way you can just relax at the resort watch Wishes from there or the beach..

I say do both on other days.. Do a character meal (keeps you young) and your obviously interested in the Wave so make an ADR for that as well.. If not for dinner than breakfast with either CM or Wave

Hands down...The Wave...our favorite restaurant on our July trip. It was uncrowded and very relaxing. The food was wonderful--beats Le Cellier easily. Our service was also top notch. We even received complimentary champagne for our 20th anniversary.

Chef Mickey's buffet is not considered a great culinary experience. Sure, you get to see the Fab 4 (or is it 5?). But you have to put up with waiting in the buffet line eating warmed over food while small ones are shrieking all around you. Not where I'd want to be on a Disneymoon.

Chef Mickey's is fun but I would do the Wave. I have eaten there several times and have always had nice meals.

Great advice..... You guys made up my mind. I'm looking forward to starting my honeymoon off at the wave!
