The water smells?

Or is it just us??

The last time we went to WDW we were trying to do the water bottle thing to save some $$. Well the water didn't smell OR taste right to us. Was it just us or has anyone thought this? Do they make it unappealing so you will buy some?

We ended up bringing tons of water in with us which was a huge pain.

any ideas?

The water in central Florida has a high content of sulfur.

According to the EPA or whomever, it is safe to drink. But if you are from an area that does not have that much sulfur, you would definately notice it.

It also affects some people digestively. Hubby, son and I can take it fine. My daughter always gets sick on the third day of a WDW trip! Well, she did until someone on these boards suggested this was a possiblity. Since then I only let her drink bottled water and we haven't had a problem. I can't prove the link, of course, but as long as she goes with me she will drink only bottled water.

It is completely safe to drink, but some people are just sensitive to the taste and smell; it can sit kind of uneasy on their stomachs. We find that using a filter water bottle (ours are Brita bottles) completely takes care of the issue for us. Much cheaper and easier, too; drink as much as you need to without spending $2.75/bottle or lugging heavy bottled water all over the place.

Buy the bottle before you arrive, though; stores in Orlando can't keep filter bottles on the shelves.

We tried the water fountains one day in MK and did not like the taste. We did not drink the water but did use the ice from the ice machines at the hotel and in the food court soda machines. We think this didn't agree with our stomachs. Hubby did not use the ice or drink soda from the soda machines and he was fine.

I think the water in central FL is simply awful. I can't drink it or use it to clean my contacts.

I bought an individual Brita water bottle. The filter really "cleans" the water. Before going into a park, I fill it as full as I can with ice, then add water. It stays pretty good till about lunch time.

The water all over Florida is horrible, I've lived here just about my whole life and still only drink bottled spring water.

Ok thanks I thought it was just me. I kind of thought it was fine to drink but we cannot stomach the taste. As for those Brita bottles, how much are they and do they make the water taste and smell better? I don't want to bother if it is still going to taste and smell funny kwim? Also we are in New England where would I buy these things? Thanks so much for the info!

They do help the taste/smell. They use a charcoal or carbon filter I believe. People have bought these at Wal-Mart. I've seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond/LinensN Things stores, never seen them at our Target but have read others getting them there (guess it depends on where you are). But then there's always the handy dandy Amazon.com!!! Put in Brita bottle and you get it.

Depending on where you buy them, Brita bottles cost between $6-9 each. The capacity is around 28 oz. There is an indent on the bottle that goes all the way around it, you can just slip-knot a ribbon around it to make a bottle strap, if you want.

I have a little neoprene bottle sac with a drawstring top and a belt clip that I use to carry it around.

I've always somewhat proudly considered myself a confirmed tap-water drinker (my dad drilled that into me--I can still hear him saying, "PAY for water? That's crazy!" if we asked for bottled water as kids!).

That being said, even I cannot stomach the tap water at WDW. The smell is just too nauseating for me! Last time I took the aforementioned Brita sport bottle and it solved the problem 100%. I couldn't believe the difference. I'd highly recommend it if you're sensitive to "off" smells/tastes.

I talked to dh and we are def going to get these. Tonight I am looking online and will try some stores here first, not much time though :bounce: So I have to get on the stick!!! Thank you so much and I will post if my sensitive nose and pallete did ok! Thanks again:wave2:
