The Walking Thread

Happy Tuesday!

I did not want to roll out of bed today… but I did. I got in 6.22 miles. Funny but it’s the exact same route but some days I guess I’m more efficient on the curves than others. It’s my only explanation for it coming in slightly more or less some days. 96% humidity this morning. Felt really gross! It was a bird filled morning with a red bellied woodpecker who stuck around long enough for pics.

Beautiful pics TiggerTigger. I love the birds. I enjoy their morning cheeriness. I am not a morning person, but listening to them talk and sing and go about their day helps me get going.

I got my 3 miles in today after a storm. I am just thankful the sun came back out and I could get out. It has been a very hard winter and a long exhausting school year and I need the therapy of sunshine and walking outside in spring.

Beautiful pictures! Looks like a gorgeous day!

I feel kind of bad posting this in the walking thread…because I shouldn’t feel guilty about getting out there and putting in my miles, but today… I RAN. It wasn’t 100% running but at least 50%…probably more.

I was sitting in the bleachers last night and got the urge to run. Obviously, I’m not going to in the middle of a softball game but decided I would if I still felt that way this morning. I couldn’t get intervals working on my watch or apps so I did an undefined method. In other words, run at that tree…walk starting at that shadow. Sometimes, I even pushed it to see how I felt…like you’re not going back to a walk until at least 10 seconds after that bridge. I am by no means fast, but I had two PRs this morning. My fastest 10k and my fastest 1k. So, I was faster than I ever was back in 2019… and this was with zero recent run training. So, please forgive me…for I have run. 😂 I was also wearing the new faster shoes. They MADE ME DO IT 🤣

Today… I did not run! Ok, I ran crossing two busy streets but that’s it. My body is not used to running and yesterday was upper body at the gym (so nothing to really work it out), so I was a bit sore today. The good news… my diet is so high in protein that it’s rare for me to have muscle soreness beyond a day and it’s rarely enough to sideline me. It certainly wasn’t enough to keep me from a brisk walk at what’s a more casual pace for me.

I got in 6.23 miles in 99% humidity. I didn’t feel the moisture as much as the variety of bigs biting me and dive bombing my face. I survived! I also saw an armadillo and a possum. So, a wildlife day as well!

TiggerTigger and Citruscurtis

Hail is not common here. I'd say we get it once or twice a year and not usually that big. We don't have TV and never received a weather notification so I was completely surprised when I heard the first ice pellets bounce off the roof and sidewalk. The rain and hail was so thick it was all you could see. We do have damage from the storm. We really don't need anything more to deal with, but it could be worse.

Today another storm moved through during the commute home. It rained pretty hard, but no hail or dangerous winds like last night. However, while our lights never flickered once yesterday, we are now without power, going on hour 7. Had to get the generator going to pump out the basement and run the fridge. Took a very quick shower. I AM SICK OF RAIN. Temps are supposed to start cooling off tomorrow. And calling for more rain. 😩

I did get to walk for a little bit tonight. DH told me to go stretch my legs and rest my mind. It's been a hard couple of days at work too, in addition to all this weather stuff and other things I have to carry. Anyways, I think I walked a mile or maybe a little more. I need a better way to measure my distance.

Here are some highlights from the short trek. We are waterlogged to say the least.

If you run 2 days in a row you may need to go join a different thread! LOL 😂 it's interesting how the simple act of walking can encourage an urge to do more with your body. I am envious of your physical condition and motivation to do it. I am out of shape!

I ran a little today 😂 but it was partly out of necessity. It’s my early day at work, I was feeling behind, and I had to take a detour for a better view of sunrise. It was only 20-30% though. I was in my least favorite shoes and my toes let me know they weren’t on board with this choice.

I envy the people who are naturally like this and don’t have to work at it and don’t have all all of the eating issues I deal with. I’m now down 150 pounds from where I was in Nov 2024 but it’s been a lot of work. I’m pretty much in a maintenance place now but that’s a daily effort because it’s so easy to get complacent and fall back into old habits. I do at least feel sane about it this time. I get to treat myself pretty regularly, I feel so much better, I get to love shopping for clothes again, and I am reminded of how much I used to enjoy achieving fitness goals.

It’s not always easy, I’m far from perfect and I’m always reminding myself that consistency doesn’t equal perfection. I can easily fall into disordered patterns so that will always be a struggle but it’s really DH that is my biggest obstacle and motivation (for all the wrong reasons). I tried sharing my excitement over my best 10k time the other day and his response to me saying I ran was that I “just jogged.” I never even got to the details because he immediately discounted the effort. Just like my half marathon PR and dual race accomplishment was “only walking.” He has this inaccurate opinion that it’s only running if you’re in a full sprint or at least have a sub 7 minute mile pace and walking is nothing to brag about. Mind you, he does nothing but sit on the couch, eat tons of junk, drinks a lot on weekends, and also looks like it. His opinions also seem to be rooted in what was expected of him back when he was a 16 year old high school ball player and had to run a single mile for warmup. On one hand, a friend suggested I stop sharing about these accomplishments because it just upsets me but on the other hand, it motivates me to be even better. Not for him, but to improve my quality of life and overall sense of self. There’s more but I’ll spare you the nasty drama.

Happy Friday!

Early start today and yes, I ran a little. 😂 Really, it wasn’t much but I was trying to make up some time. One of my walking ladies saw me during a run portion…noted that I was running… which kind of made me chuckle. I got in 6.36 miles and a pretty sunrise. My miles will be wonky this weekend because I’ll be in Oklahoma and probably splitting between treadmill, parks and the OU campus. Let’s also pray tonight’s storms aren’t bad. Hail and tornadic activity scares me!

@TiggerTrigger, it sounds to me like he's jealous of your motivation and progress (or afraid you'll outgrow him). Don't let it drag you down!
You are probably right. He has a similar response when anyone asks me about my experiences singing with the symphony. He’s gone as far as telling people it’s not a big deal. I never said I was a primary soloist or someone famous but getting to perform with a high level professional entity like this isn’t insignificant either. So, I think you’re right. One of my local friends has said something similar.
