The Walking Dead on AMC

Did anyone else think Shane was looking for the guns to kill Rick? I really thought he was going to take him out of the picture! When he found Dale I thought he was going to kill him also. I was really hoping Dale was going to pull the trigger and kill Shane, that would have been a shocker!

Based on what Shane has said and reacted, I was sure Shane wanted the guns because he intended to kill the zombies in the barn. I also thought Shane was going to kill Dale, and yes, it would have been a shocker for Dale to shoot Shane, because he just is not that kind of person.

P.S. I've not seen or heard too many people giving Herschel hell for "freezing" in the moment and not doing whatever he could to stop the massacre. Not that he could have, but he froze - and watched in horror, unable to compel himself to do anything at all.

Watching Hershel on his knees totally frozen, I really expected either his wife or step son to bite him for added shock and to really pack the punch. The group viewed these zombies as things. Hershel and his family still viewed them as people. Sophia being found as a zombie, and the group viewing her as a person the way Hershel and his family did, was a huge realization for the group. They finally understood what Hershel was talking about. It would have been the perfect contrast for Hershel to be bitten by his wife, because he would understand what the group has been saying....that those things are no longer people, the way Maggie now views them. Not saying I want Hershel to die, because as a man of medicine, he is a valuable character in the scheme of things.

I was actually hoping that Andrea, after Dale's speech about not knowing who Shane really was, would come upon Shane threatening Dale, and she'd be the one to kill Shane. Would've been great. :thumbsup2

I'm waiting for Lori to do it to protect her childen. My mom says it will be Maggie in an effort to protect Hershel.

I just saw the most recent episode and wow, the ending totally shocked me! I do think they need to speed things up...it's getting a little slow and too much drama.

One question I have: how come so many of the walkers just have one chunk bitten out of them. Like Sophia, she got bit but why doesn't the walker who bit her stay and feast on her? When there is a big crowd of them they look like they go crazy, but when it's just one of two they often just a bit or two in them.

One more thing...how ridiculously smoking HOT is Shane! That scene with him shaving his head a few episodes ago...where is the drooling smiley? :woohoo: I totally thought they were going to kill him off last episode.

I watched it again last night, and I'm really thinking that since this thing came to light, and by his responses when both Rick and Maggie confronted him about everything...Herschel really didn't have a grasp about how far gone these things were. I got the impression that this was a guy who watched the world end on TV but hadn't didn't confront the real thing any more than he needed to. In the preview they showed during 'Hell on Wheels', he told them he had no idea Sofia was in the barn. That it was Otis who dealt with the walkers in the barn. I'm not so sure how close he ever really got to the walkers before this.

He accused Rick of being 'dramatic', but that's not what he was doing. He did see a woman snapped in half, he wasn't lying about anything he said he'd seen. Glenn admitted that they felt so safe on the farm that even he'd started to forget how dangerous the walkers were. If Herschel had never (or rarely left), he wouldn't have a clue of what was out there.

I think Maggie understood it a whole lot more after she was attacked in the drugstore. She even nodded at Glenn that it was okay to start shooting when the massacre started.

And I think Rick brought the whole thing back to reality after he shot Sofia. He did what they needed to do, and what Herschel wouldn't.

It looks like in the preview for second half of the season that Herschel might have a drinking problem. He took what looked like a flask out of a drawer and it looks like he's got a bottle in front of him when he's talking to the others about how there's no hope left for any of them. Sounds like he has his own demons to deal with.

You brought up a question I had too. Why was Sophia only bitten, and not eaten?

Before I open them, are they in any way related to a spoiler?

Nah, it's just previews for the next episode, which aired in another show after TWD. I enjoyed seeing them (can't get enough! LOL).

Oh man I can't wait for February! With the Sophia story line done I'm really curious to see what happens next.

I thought Shane was going to use the guns on Herschel and take over the house, but not surprised that he let the walkers out. I was surprised that no one stopped him. My DH kept yelling at the tv for someone to take him out :lmao:

I think Herschel was in shock at how the "people" looked that came out of the barn. I think he had it in his head they were mostly the same as when they had just turned, not quite as "rotted" as they were now, and it just did him in to be confronted with the reality of it.

I really like the Maggie/Glenn thing, and how Glenn waited for her ok to start shooting.

Shane is almost fun to watch. A train wreck is a-comin' folks. I wish Dale had shot him, but it just isn't him. Maybe Andrea will do it

I also do not think it has dragged at all. My complaint is too many commercials. More show, less commercial please! :thumbsup2

This is the main reason why I REFUSE to watch anything on AMC. I have to record it on my DVR at 9pm and watch it at 10pm. Fast forward through the commercials.

I'm guessing she ran and managed to get away after she got bit.

That's my guess as well. Most likely one of the walkers that Daryl killed down by the river when he was hurt, which could explain why Sophia dropped her doll there. She was surprised, bitten/scratched, dropper her doll and got away. Then she died, resurrected, and was found by Otis and put into the barn.

This is actually a question that I ask my DH about ALL of The Walkers. To become a Zombie, you must get bitten and die. You can't be torn to TOO many shreds (bicycle girl was, however) because there has to be something left of your brain and body to reanimate.

So, in order to become a Walker, you have to get bitten and die. But you don't die right away - you have to sustain a deadly bite and then escape somewhere so you can die relatively in-tact. So that means that The Walkers all faced that scenario. How likely is that? :confused3

OR, is it that all people who die now become Walkers, not just those bitten? Hmm... something to think about. I've tried to remember if we've seen anyone die of more natural causes, but I'm not thinking of anything now (but my memory isn't great anyway).

Yeah, I know, I'm over-thinking a zombie series... but I just can't help myself! :headache:

Maybe zombies get full and just bite in aggression? Good question.

I think that anyone that dies with the "infection" in their blood stream will reanimate...even if all that is left is a brain stem and torso. It is the brain stem that reanimates (per the CDC guy) and they can only be killed with hits to the brain. So, I would guess that if you die after being bitten (eaten, whatever) and your brain is still there...off a Walker you go.

Where can I go to watch season 1 episodes online? I just recently started watching this show last Sunday...was always to scared to watch but after watching I realized it wasn't that scary. But just don't ask me to go outside after dark for anything...LOL

Hubby thinks that she wasn't devoured because they wanted to keep her recognizable. If she was mauled to bits, it would be hard to determine if that was her or not. I told him, "well, duh" lol. It still doesn't quite make sense in the zom-pocolypse scheme of things.
