The preview during Into the Badlands was the best part of the episode!

I have some thoughts but I'll share them tomorrow so our west coast friends have a chance to see the episode first.

Boo, not the best episode for a midseason finale. Sad to see Deanna go, I kinda liked her. Don't watch into the badlands so I didn't see the prologue. I'll catch it on YouTube.

I thought it was very slow and boring. For mid season finale, I was expecting more, maybe even a major death. Sad to see Deanna go, but I knew she was going to go soon. They can't kill off major characters, so they are killing the mid-level characters now I think. I don't know, it was just really dull to me.

The music was so creepy. I'm guessing she was afraid to shush?? Anyway. That's gonna get someone eaten. Hopefully Ron.

I also think it was slow and anti-climactic for a mid-season finale. Nothing really happened and there were no real cliffhangers, so I'm not dying anxious for the second half of the season to start in February.

I guess we're supposed to take Sam's "mom" at the end as a sign that he's going to freak out and the walkers will be onto them? And I guess a few of you were right in that it is Eugene who says "help" into the walkie talkie at the end of the last Sasha/Abe/Daryl episode. Did we actually see Eugene say it in this last episode though? Right after the walkers busted in and Eugene was on the porch, he picked up the walkie and quietly muttered "help" just as Tara and Rosita rolled up and got him. I couldn't determine if that was supposed to be the moment Sasha/Abe/Daryl heard.

I thought the Glenn scenes were odd too. Only two of them and I would have loved to have seen him get in the gates and Maggie see him too. And I was frustrated by Carol. She's been an animal who doesn't give a crap for a while now, and she came off a little crazy in the scene with Morgan. I was hoping that would have played out better and she could have saved the day again. I wonder what the wolf plans to do with that doctor too.

And lastly, the prologue was exciting. Love the Negan reference. But it seems like the Sasha/Abe/Daryl/Negan followers storyline is going to run concurrently with what's happening in ASZ, and I was reallyyyy hoping they would have rolled up in Patty and gotten the walkers out.

It's pretty straightforward - the episode was full of speeches and didn't do much as far as moving the storyline along or leave us with cliffhangers. The prologue left a HUGE cliffhanger with the mention of Negan, which means he will be coming up after the break and 3 members of the group are now hip to who he is.

Not much of a cliffhanger since we knew that was coming up anyways. I think the bigger cliffhanger is who in the group surrounded by walkers is going to die and how is Glenn going to get to Maggie.

I think it is only meaningful if you have read the comics and know how awful this guy is. I only know from reading here. Both of my sons have no clue who Negan is and when they watched it they said...that's it?

Jesse really has to be the worst mother of the year...she never checks on Sam ever. The whole cookie thing, not turning his music off, not checking on him during the crisis at all until the very end.

So what I don't get is why didn't Carol just use her gun? It's clearly strapped on her belt and she has bullets (clearly shown in the prior scenes that she has at least 2 bullets). Why even bother with the knife? Worried about noise? I'd say the jig is up already.

Agree to disagree. I'm much more excited about Negan after the break than I am about what is going to happen with the walkers and Glenn/Maggie. They let a lot hang on characters we don't have much interest or investment in - I could not care less about what happens to the doctor, Enid, Jessie, Ron, Sam, etc etc. Didn't even care too much that Deanna died. If what happens in the comics happens when the show comes back in Feb, it's something they could have easily incorporated into last night's episode which would have left a much bigger impact/cliffhanger, IMO.

I think that's exactly why I was underwhelmed with the prologue. I knew the character of Negan was coming soon, and that he's a REALLY bad guy, because of everything that's been posted on the internet - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc - and not just by fans but by actors (I'm talking about you Norman Reedus) on the show too.

The rest of the episode, there were parts that I enjoyed and parts that were just "meh".

The biggest take I got out of the whole episode was that I got the distinct feeling that it will be Darryl on a date with Lucille, instead of Glenn! I just feel like that is where they are going with that angle.
