I think what we mean by flashback is that it COULD be Darryl and Carol with Beth coming through the bushes, and then we learn of her time just before that in the hospital through flashback rather than current time as its happening.
I thought the episode was very good, but is everyone noticing the increasing violence and gore? Back in the first episode, it was so shocking when Rick shot a zombie in the head, now they are hacking people to death in a church.
I have noticed, but I think it is due to a shift in TV violence in general. TWD has always pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable for cable TV. In 4 years the violence you saw in season 1 has become more commonplace, with network TV showing almost as much. So TWD has had to up the ante even more.
I think that was actually a voice clip from last season when he met back up with Rick, and told him what happened to Beth.I also just saw a commercial for next week's episode and you hear Daryl saying "I was with Beth" and then someone about "She's not there." So she's not with him.

I don't think it's Beth or Carol in the woods, or Morgan. First, why would someone "hide" in the woods until Daryl said it was safe? Carol, Beth or Morgan wouldn't do that. It's more like a child... or maybe someone who is scared out of their mind. But Daryl's voice was tender. So I'm not sure. I also just saw a commercial for next week's episode and you hear Daryl saying "I was with Beth" and then someone about "She's not there." So she's not with him. But he made it all the way to Atlanta, found her in a big hospital and then made it back to the church... all in like a day? Possible, I guess. Just weird. But my vote for who was in the woods with Daryl is a child. Or a puppy. I'd really love it if it was a puppy.![]()
I also think it's making a point, towards their mental states in the new world they live in. Violence in their world has become commonplace, and it doesn't affect them as much anymore. So I think that is why is partially why the show has turned the way it has.
On The Talking Dead, they have pop up facts that they run, and one of them last night was how the church massacre was so violent, and that was one of the key reasons they opted not to shoot this part of the season in an actual church.
Exactly. They’re not ramping up the violence just because they can, I think the point is to have these characters decide what they’re going to become because of all the things that happen to them as this world becomes more brutal. The Termites were good people at first - we know that Terminus was originally a sanctuary. But a bad group ruined them, and they couldn’t come back. Now our group is being faced with having to make the same choices, and it’s not just about physical survival, but whether than can maintain their humanity at the end of it. At the Paleyfest panel, they talked a lot about the Lizzie and Mika episode, and about when Rick chewed the guy’s throat out. Danai Gurira made a great point - that what Rick did was really an act of love, because he just wasn’t going to let his child go through what almost happened. Then Andrew Lincoln joked that it was a “love bite” and Danai looked like she was going slug him.![]()
I had a similar conversation with my dd after the throat ripping scene. He did what he had to do to save his child. And if i were him (which I am not i would have died early on LOL) I would have done the same.

I think that Beth might hang back, especially if she's just been through something crazy. I don't think that Carol or Morgan would hang back. Am I the only one bothered that Maggie hasn't asked about Beth yet and then went off to DC.

I've said that too, Maggie doesn't seem to be at all affected by the fact that her sister is missing. She just lost her dad, and then her sister all in the same day. She should have but one mission, find Beth, and instead shes running off to DC. I just don't get it.

She did ask about Beth. Daryl was telling her what happened in the opening scene of this season when they were all catching up on what happened to each other. It's a voiceover, but she did ask.
Last season, she said she was going after Glenn because she couldn't find Beth. In fact, the only reason she was still at the prison was because she jumped off the bus to find her (a woman told her Beth had gone back in to find Judith). Later, she couldn't go back to the prison to keep looking because it was overrun, but she thought Glenn was still on the bus, and that was something they could at least follow that wouldn't take them back to the prison.
Of course she obviously wants to find her, they haven't had time to even look yet.
