The above imgae is from a 10 year old grilled cheese sandwich that was up for sale on ebay. The owner made it 10 years ago and kept it when she saw the image. Interestingly, the sandwich has never molded. Ebay has canceled the auction. (Update: Its back on ebay again now as a private auction, see later post in this thread).

Here is the story from cnn.com

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- The people at eBay were no believers in this cheesy miracle: half of a 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich whose owner claimed it bore the image of the Virgin Mary.

Diana Duyser put the sandwich up for sale last week, drawing bids as high as $22,000 before eBay pulled the item Sunday night. The page was viewed nearly 100,000 times before being taken down.

An e-mail Duyser received from eBay said the sandwich broke its policy, which "does not allow listings that are intended as jokes."

But, Duyser, a jewelry designer who has bought and sold items on eBay for two years, insisted this was not a laughing matter.

"How could eBay do this to me?" Duyser said Monday, hours before the online auction was supposed to have ended.

EBay spokesman Hani Durzy said he did not have enough information to comment specifically on the case.

Duyser thought eBay would be the best place to show off the sandwich, made on plain white bread with American cheese. It was cooked with no oil or butter.

Duyser, 52, said she took a bite after making it 10 years ago and saw a face staring back at her from the bread. She put the sandwich in a clear plastic box with cotton balls and kept it on her night stand.

At first, she was scared by the image, "but now that I realize how unique it is, I wanted to share it with the world," Duyser said.

The sandwich, she added, has never sprouted a spore of mold.

I think it looks more like Mary Pickford!

 :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'd rather have a BLOODY Mary WITH a grilled cheese sandwich...I might bid on that...

Man, let all make grilled cheese sandwiches!

Are people insane?

Like she would actually appear on a grilled cheese sandwich, instead of, well, almost ANY OTHER PLACE ON THE PLANET.

:sad2: :sad2: :confused3

LOL!!!!!! That's what I was thinking. (And yeah, I think people ARE insane! )

That picture gives me the creeps. I wish it was MY food that had a face on it so I could make 20,000+ dollars off of it. It boggles my mind that someone would have that kind of cash to spend on a 10 year old sandwich.

no, I don't believe that's the virgin Mary, but it certainly is creepy. I wouldn't have eaten that sandwich either if I had seen a face peering out at me! but what fool is going to spend $16,000 on a sandwuch?!?! and a half eaten one at that?!?!

I guess some people will believe anything

:space:

Very strange..... I esp. like the part when she claims she's been *blessed* with $70K in *casino* winnings since the sandwich.

Thanks for showing the picture I would have never seen it if it weren't for you....

WDWhound !:smooth:

Can you imagine having soo much $$$ and faith to want to buy this piece of burnt bread!

Or maybe its a lack of faith ? Do they need proof of a higher/spiritual being.??? 15,000 would buy me a nice trip to disney with the kids and the rest to CHARITY...:teeth:

I wouldn't have eaten it either, look it's burnt!! :p

Honestly, do people really have $15,000 laying around to spend on a sandwich? Who are these people?

I've gotta take a better look at my food before I eat it. I burn food all the time!

The sandwich would probably sell better to DIS members if it featured a hidden Mickey. Actually, probably not, seeing as the current bid is up to $17,300.00!
