A lady in my office is moving down here in December and has been talking about this community. It is an over 55, and sounds just wonderful. Was wondering if any locals can give any info on the community.

Our neighbors sold their house and now live at the Villages. They absolutely love it there!

You can request a "package"...they will send out floor plans of the homes and a very nice video about the Villages.

I've driven through there and it is so cute and beautiful. Everyone seems to drive a golf cart around as their transportation source, and you'll even see little parking spaces to accomodate the carts. I think it would be a great place to retire.

Thats exactly what she said and I saw the website and it looks incredible. She said you can buy a home there at 50 but can't move in until 55. Well, I could rent it out for 20 years LOL and then Im set:D

One hour from WDW. Hmmmmmm :scratchin I am more than qualified age wise.

I have seen it advertized on tv and it is indeed very appealing. HOWEVER, even though I am closer to being qualified than not, and our youngest is amost 17, there is something that seems unapealing about living in a community that doesn't permit children. I think that families with children contribute to a community. I looked at the floorplans and it seemed odd to have a room called a "family room". There aren't families there; there are couples at best. I would not want to be a part of a community that was only aging, no matter how nice it looks.

So married couples who don't have children aren't families?

My parents live near enough to go there for lunch every now and then. They love it there and would love to move there. There are so many opportunities for socialization. It is like a self-contained town. They have their own doctors, and I think a hospital. There are daily shuttles to the airport.

The term "family" generally implies more than two people; unless they are going to move in with thier over 55 relatives. If someone were to tell me that a "family moved in next door", I would assume 3 or more people. If a man and woman moved in next door, I would refer to them as a couple. Some people do not want to be around children, teens, etc and that is fine. The Villages might be just what they are looking for. I would prefer to be in a more diverse neighborhood.

I don't think she was saying that a couple isn't a family just that a neighborhood with NO CHILDREN would be sad. I can definatly see the point in that.
