The Village opens Friday...any guesses?

Well, I just saw it. It gets a thumbs down from me. I guessed the ending even before I got to the theatre. Having this book(Don't click if you have not seen The Village and don't want it spoiled) on the reading list in the school district I work in didn't help. While watching the trailers and TV Spots for The Village, I thought of this book and sadly I was right to make a connection. The highlight of the film was Bryce Dallas Howard. The daughter of Ron Howard, this is Bryce's first film role and I have to say she was excellent. I really hope that she does more films. Overall, I have to say this is Night's worst work (yes, worse then Unbreakable, but then again no one will give that film a break). Man, that was bad...

We went to see Bourne tonight, but it was hard not to notice The Village.... We got to the theatre for a 6:50 show, at that time the 7:00, 7:20 and 7:50 showings of The Village were sold out...

Boxofficemojo has The Village at just over $20 million for Friday alone, with The Maschurian (SP?) Candidate 3rd at under $7 million!

Looks like I was pretty close. The current reports say that The Village earned about 50.2 million this weekend.

OK ... I admit it. I clicked on the link, having not yet seen The Village. I had no idea that book existed, and didn't even consider that type of plot twist as a possible ending. The result? A movie I had on my "see if there's time" list has just been bumped to my "must see" list -- just to see how the story is told. And I'll probably by the book in question too! I'm sure that some people will be dismayed by the premise, but it won't be the first time a film suffers from its ending. Cold Mountain had me right up to the very last minutes. Once it was over, my friends and I were livid -- he came all that way and endured all that and THAT'S HOW IT ENDED?? We nearly wrote to Miramax demanding our money back. :p

:earsboy:

One reviewer on radio in chicago gave it a thumbs down.

While i may read a review of a movie every now and then, i put no credence in what they have to say.
Im looking forward to the Village and if it as good as UnBreakable that will be great because IMHO it was an excellant moive and would love to see a sequel with willis/jackson going after each other!!

DW and I gave it two thumbs up. Alfred Hitchcock would be proud of M. Night. :scared1:

Well my kids and I gave it a marginal thumbs down. I had heard the rumors of the ending, but avoided any stories on the net until I had seen it, so that I could enjoy it. We thought it was interesting, but that was it about it. We did have a heated debate about how it could have been so much better if..........

But I would go and see his next movie anyway. I loved Signs, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable(in that order) and this was my first disappointment. The Village was just too much of a one trick pony for our tastes.

I agree that Ms. Howard's character, Ivy, was very good. She did a wonderful job with the role. William Hurt was good too.

I think it will get to about 80 million, and then just fade away.

i have nothing to add to The Village discussion, but I have to comment on WDSearcher's quote. I just rented Cold Mountain and I thought it was like the best movie ever.......until the ending! I was livid, as well. I hate when movies do that!:D
