The view from room 3228 at The Yacht Club

Yikes 😳…that is pretty bad! I have stayed standard view 3 times at YC and I always requested the rooms over the roof that faced SAB and crescent lake. Luckily my requests were always met.

Wow, how can Disney allow that room to be booked at their current prices, standard view or not! Perhaps they should have a "non magical view" category of rooms at each resort which are reduced in price but we all know that is not happening! All my stays in Disney since 2007 have always been at value resorts at 1/4 the price per night and never have I had such a view or any other worth complaining about. Sorry about that op.

I know. I get it that I only paid for a standard view room (don’t get me wrong, it still was not inexpensive!) and I felt a little odd about complaining but it was also noisy and just…not pleasant.
They did offer to let me “upgrade” to a suite…for $3,000! Finally, they moved to another room a few doors down on the 5th floor. A little better, but as my wife said “I am not really feeling the magic!”

I feel your pain on that one smh! We would always book standard at YC because to get our ”Magical deal” we could only book standard. But the rooms were around $200 a night so no one was complaining but with these rates they are charging now with the laughable 15% discount no way…!!

Couldn't they put some planters or something on there to make it look less like an industrial roof? I don't know what kind of weight restrictions they have but even some painted design would be an improvement.

YC truly has some awful standard views. We got one that looked onto the garbage, service area and I thought that was bad but this one topped it. I can’t imagine paying over $400 for that.
when I walked in our room and saw the view we went right back to the desk and asked if we could have another room. They gave us one over the portico which I quite liked.

We stayed standard YC CL once and I recall a view of rocks on a roof. Not terribly pleasant. I've always booked water view at YC after that stay.

Yacht Club's not the only place with this issue. We once stayed in a 4th floor room at Beach Club that overlooked a similar roof and was under an elevator mechanical room! Eight nights of squeaky machinery overhead and I was ready to pull my hair out! Unfortunately it was Christmas week and they had nowhere else to put us.

Not sure why Disney bothered putting patio chairs on that balcony. I wouldn't be in a rush to sit outside for the "view."

Anyone booking can see that standard is the cheapest category (rack rate on a date I just looked at is $36 less than garden view per night, which adds up, and a whopping $113 less than water view) and the room category description is “Views of the rooftop or parking area”—so the room is exactly as advertised and I can’t see how anyone is surprised. Not everyone uses their balcony on vacation and/or cares what the view is, and for those people it makes sense to book a bad view to get access to the resort amenities—especially stormalong bay. I personally couldn’t care less what room view we have because I spend zero time on the balcony—if I want to sit somewhere and relax with a book or coffee I prefer to do it in the hotel lobby, outdoor grounds or cafe where it is less cramped and the seats are comfier than a balcony. So I would happily book this room to save a little money. DH likes to sit on the balcony though so we always book a garden or water view for him. To each his own.

I do really like that disney differentiates booking categories by view (and at the larger moderate resorts, by location and 5ths sleeper). A lot of hotels don’t and with them it is luck of the draw whether you get a nice view.

If you book standard view that’s what you may get. I would never think of complaining if that’s what I paid for. We had a sucky view at BC once. Oh well. We have always booked standard view and get what we get.

I had a similar view once, I think it was at BC. We usually book GV now because it's usually either one of the available discount categories or it's only $10-20 more per night. But that picture is a good reminder of what std view could be. There are not many rooms like that, but if you get it, it's unfortunate. You can use Touring Plans room view finder to see what is possible.

We always book standard at Deluxe resorts. I’d be thrilled with the room actually. I just looked it up on touring plans and it looks to be very centrally located. Close to SAB and the Beach Club. :thumbsup2

Not all the standard views are roofs and parking lot. Actually I guess you could say our last room was technically parking lot, but with all the trees, you couldn’t see it. We were facing front of resort, and I quite liked it. Good people watching, lol. Watching all the comings and goings.
