The USA Food Thread

Cheesecake Factory is in the Garden Walk complex. Also has Bubba Gumps which has seafood based food with theming based on the movie Forest Gump. Speaking of which....

We ate there the 2nd last night we were in Anaheim. It was fresh for a chain. Although we were all tired we enjoyed the food. I lost the battery in my camera after only two photos. These are my only two pics from Bubba Gumps, and neither are of the seafood... We will visit them again.

How far is the Cheesecake Factory in Anaheim from HoJo's? Is it walkable? I keep hearing about how good it is so want to try it, but is it worth giving up precious DL time for??

We walked from Grand Californian to Garden Walk and it was very walkable. It was good actually to walk off the massive meal we had :rotfl2:

I can highly recommend PF Changs that is there too. We had lunch for the second time at PF Changs yesterday, but the one in Orlando and the food is really just so good. I really wish we had one at home!

I'll post some photos of our PF Changs meal soon, just have to upload them :thumbsup2

Tried to work a dinner st Cheesecake Factory into my plan today and my head almost exploded! I am going to (attempt to) leave the plan as it is and see if we feel like the walk at the time. If only I hadn't have looked at the cheesecake menu online!!

I hope to be able to add to this thread soon. I took lots of food porn while we were away.

As for Bubba Gumps, do yourself a favour and have the Bourbon Street Mahi Mahi, I have dreams about that dish :rotfl2:.

Aust, if you really want to go to the Cheesecake Factory but are reluctant to take so much time out to walk there you can catch the ART from outside Disneyland and you will be there in 60 seconds flat. Then when you have finished the ART will bring you back to the Hojo (I think you are staying at the Hojo, aren't you?) in about 2 mins.

It would mean that you don't have to take such a huge amount of time out of your day to get there and back :thumbsup2

Also at the GardenWalk Complex was Calfornia Pizza Kitchen I must say they had great customer service and the food was great and the portions where great as well.

I loved the food options at garden walk and honestly I think from Hojo its only 10 Min walk max! W stayed at Anaheim Plaza and just jumped the back fence of the hotel at night:rolleyes: only took us 2 mins to get food and be back in our hotel room.

We went to Bubba Gump last month once you get over the seafood smell it was great fun. I had the Shrimper's Heaven and I loved it especially the coconut shrimp. I also had one of their cocktail's, the Lt Dan Punch, although it had a Halloween Name when we were there. Managed to bring the glass back to Australia without breaking it packed in our luggage.

Also we had an experience of a lifetime when we went to the Queen Victoria Room at Victoria and Alberts at WDW.

A 10 Course meal with all the theatrics in presentation that was simply unbelievable. The food was some of the best I have tasted anywhere in the world.

We've now decided to go to Gardenwalk one night and have dinner at PF Chang's and dessert at the Cheesecake Factory, plus do a bit of shopping. (also have changed hotels from HoJo to Camelot Inn so the walk will be slightly faster).

I'm ashamed to say we never went to a Bubba Gumps in USA, as we went to the Bali one years ago, and were not impressed, although many love it. I think we were comparing the meal to the all the wonderful and cheap ones we'd had elsewhere so it just didn't stack up. I've read Ms Shuttergirl's raves about the Mahi Mahi and think, we'll have to give it another chance next year.

We went to the Cheesecake Factory in Las Vegas and have to say the meal was great, the menu is huge. We didn't have any desserts tho. It was a very popular restaurant in LV, one of the only one's we got given a beeper for.

PF Chang's is on my must do list now, I'm usually more of a Thai fan, especially since I work in the midst of Perths answer to "Chinatown".

One thing I do need to find is a new favourite drink, I'm a Cider or sparkling wine drinker and and found that they are just not as readily available as here. Maybe I gotta start with beer

We stayed at Hyatt Regency Garden Grove and tried out both Joe's Crab Shack.

We tried Joe's twice and found the food to be great and very reasonably priced, if it wasn't great we certainly wouldn't have gone back for a second time.
It was ages ago so can't remember exactly what we had.

What I loved about everywhere we ate was that everywhere was so family friendly, they all gave DS4 crayons or pencils and something to draw on, certainly makes it easier to stay there and spend money with a satisfied child :thumbsup2

Anybody else addicted to Reese's peanut butter cups??? LOL

Oh I am and thank goodness we can buy them here now!! :thumbsup2
I love Peanut Butter Cups - mini and regular ones. Not a fan of the wafers, white or dark choc varieties.

USA foods in Melbourne have them too at a pretty good price but I've found them out of stock a few times. http://www.usafoods.com.au/c10/sweets/confectionery/ Scroll down the page past all the other good stuff we can't get easily at Woolies!

Yes, this was excellent. We rarely eat out here because the kids get bored, but 95% of restaurants in the US had kids activity packs that kept them busy. They loved finding out what sort of games they had on their menu each night :).

Yes this is what we loved about eatting in the US as well, they really cater for the kids. The kids loved getting the activity sheets and "free crayons". I thought this was only found in disney but when we travelled from San Fran down to Anaheim by car I found most of the other restaurants did the same! Wish Aussies would pick up this......it means we could relax well for five minutes anyway.

out of curiousity i googled them

pure evil i tell you

how could they do that

i want some

pirate:

but alas im on a mission

i cant continue to even read this thread

very bad things in here :scared:

Our kids (and us) also loved the activity sheet/menu and crayons/pencils that were provided nearly everywhere, the cheap kids options (in most places) that often included a drink, and sometimes even dessert.

We loved that staff topped up drinks before you had even finished to look like an idiot madly waving at waitstaff trying to get assistances (Perth is like this!). Although, can be dangerous for the adult beverages. :upsidedow
Didn't love the whole tip thing, we ended up doing what a young waitress told us on our first trip and just doubled the tax. Usually works out at 20%. Takes a bit of getting used to, not sure if we tip too many people, too much or whatever, we still had fun.

In fact everywhere kids seemed more welcomed, which was our reason for opting for the USA for our last trip.

Most of all I'm just addicted to 'smores! Roll on 2011!
