The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

Anyone else working through their costumes and then remembering that it could be 30 degrees out at race start and panicking just a little? Yes, yes, layers, throw-away stuff, etc. but I'm still over here like 😬
Slightly… I know I’m doing a tank for the W&D 10k so I’ll more than likely bring an old fleece blanket just in case but once I cross the start …

I know my 5K for springtime will also be tank based

I've got a short sleeve for the 10K for Wine and Dine, and tank for the 1/2. I've looked at the weather like 3 times already. I did order a pack of emergency blankets. I'll take one to the pre-race to keep me warm. It looks like it will be in the 60's pre-race unless something drastically changes. I will pack just in case leggings and a long sleeve, just in case some winter emergency shows up. I'll be fine in short sleeves once the race starts.

My costumes are built for necessary layers. I’m pretty sure doing two races means I’ll have to check some luggage to make sure I have enough for anything Florida throws at me.

Can anyone comment on how the sparkle athletic visors run size-wise? I'm pretty sure headsweats makes them? I have a big head, and *most* women's hats don't really fit me without causing a headache, or if they're adjustable (which i know the SA visors are not) I have to loosen it almost all the way. I don't want to spend $32 on something that I won't be able to wear. And I *hate* velcro on hats.

I can’t give you a comparison to other visors, but I can share some measurement pics of mine. It is nice and elastic and I don’t find it to be uncomfortably tight on my head.

I never thought I had a big head, but it was tight on me.

I have a child-size head and literally have to buy children's hats or they just fall down over my face. I am able to wear a sparkle visor without it instantly becoming a necklace. It does slip down when I move if I don't put a fabric headband underneath it, but it seems they do run a bit on the small side.

I have Figment ears on a headband (10K), and Captain America Minnie Ears headband (1/2) to wear for the races. I've done Minnie ears before for races, and I usually just put my hair in a tight ponytail and kind of slide the sides of headbands down inside the hair to help it stay put. I'm having second thoughts about the ears for the 1/2 after reading that the sun may be up by 6:40 on the Wine and Dine thread. Anyone have any advice for extra security for keeping the ears in place, or should I somehow attach the ears to hat? I despise running in sun glasses, so I don't really want to wear them unless I have to. I guess I was thinking we would be in the dark a good bit of the race.

I have figment horns on a skinny headband that I’m planning on wearing over a visor (depending on which race I end up wearing that costume for 😂 )

My headband also has little strips of the pokey side of Velcro attached on each side of the headband to help hold it in place. Could be something to try? Hot glue or superglue?

The times I’ve worn headware for costumes I found myself holding it during the parts of the course where there were no photographer’s

I'm finally ready to reveal my Wine & Dine 5K costume! I'm not going to mention who I worked with on this or what "club" this is part of for now, because my design partner is planning a reveal to that group next weekend and I don't want to risk someone following her stuff finding it before then. BUT I CAN'T WAIT and also I need some advice! (Also if you scroll up, you can figure it out pretty easily.) But PLEASE DO NOT SHARE this anywhere yet as I don't want to steal her public thunder.

Ladies and gents, it's Constance Hatchaway, aka Haunted Mansion Bride! Since the race will be entirely in the dark, we went with lots of lights (yes, the heart blinks) and we added a spooky blue/purple overlay of fabric to give it a more ghostly look.

I'll be wearing temp tattoos and makeup on my face to make it a sugar skull version to go with the Coco theme.

I also found a small rubber hatchet to carry, which I've drilled a hole in to hang from a belt if I get tired of it.

Now, my question. I'm not sure whether to wear the overlay for the race or not. I can easily pin it to my headpiece and it stays put, and I can see through it fine. It also isn't heavy or hot at all. My concern is I'll probably have to put my bib on it for any chance of getting any of my photopass pics. Is that going to totally ruin the effect? Does it look okay without it? Anybody have another solution? Here's a grid of the costume in light and dark, with and without the overlay. I'd love everyone's opinions!

I also took some video of the costume in the dark with the overlay on. (Click for link.)

It looks great both ways!

oh my GOSH that's fantastic!!!!!!!!

Could you pin your bib on the bottom of your skirt?
That’s what I was thinking. Or can you test bib visibility through the veil? It’s pretty close to transparent, it might be ok to pin the bib to your shirt and then have the veil over it.

I think with the lights, the character pics would be okay with the bib underneath, but I'm worried about course photos. I hadn't thought about the bottom of my skirt! Maybe I'll try a few options and take phone pics. I can always move it mid-race if the photogs tell me it's an issue.

I think you might be okay with it attached to the bottom of the skirt. It's awesome! Sad I'm not running the 5k to see it in person.

This seems to be the pervasive suggestion, so I'll start out with it there and move it if I have to. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

Also, with the effort and time that went into this, I WILL be wearing it again for another race!

If you'd run behind me in the race wearing that, I just might PR! :teeth: The hatchet lady freaks me out, but the voice at the end that says "come baaaackkk" really gets to me. My kids make fun of me for it!:rotfl2:
