hmm, low woman on the totem pole, stuck with the scut work. Hopefully it will get better after you have proven yourself in a few months. I like jobs with variety, hopefully you will have more chances to do fittings soon!

Shaving legs, of course.. toes?? hmmmmmmm
My mom has one toe that is hairy, she has a childhood scar on one foot (dropped an old iron on it, the type you put to heat on the stove.. ouch!). Now thick black hairs grow in it. Creepy looking!

No funky hairy toes here, but I do have to pluck my chin every week. Gnarly black whisker hairs, they grow out of my scar (fell twice on my chin in one year, stitches in same spot.. yep our family are a bunch of klutzes!)

My co workers were all just in a frenzy, there was a snake in the office. Luckily it was just a gopher snake, nothing too scary.

grrrrr, stupid hospital!

E just called, he's in pain, kinda hungry and they are making a stink about something in his chart which will put him in isolation.

He was given a mosquito dose of pain medication... unless the doc is a nephrologist they really have no clue how much resistance a renal patient has to narcotics (pain meds). Tiny dose will do nothing for him since he has had high dose narcotics in the past.. builds a high level tolerance.

Nurse got him settled in the room and announced she was going to have her supper break ... "when do I get to eat?" ohhh, the cafeteria is already closed.

WHAT!!??!! He hasn't had a thing to eat all freaking day! If he was a diabetic they would be having a hard time right about now. She said she would find him a sandwich.

The chart thing... long time ago "VRE" was added to his chart...

but his nephrologist at the time didn't even know how it got in his chart as he never was active colonizing, they would have had to test a sample of his poo (which he has never offered up) or do a rectal smear (also never offered up unless they did it while he was sleeping

Now his chart gets flagged for it, they put the isolation signs up, all staff need to gown/glove to enter. It's not that he is sick, it's the potential that he could spread it to other patients. Except... I don't think he has it in his system at all. The last hospitalization (when the kidney failed after transplant) they did a smear (ewww) and it came back negative.

Bonus.. he gets a private room.

Negative.. he gets ignored and is told not to leave his room.

Before he hung up I told him to complain and ask for meds, he was getting that "I'm not going to breathe, not going to move because I hurt" tone to his voice. Good way for him to develop post surgery pneumonia. (Been there , done that. )

Oh yeah, he has a surgical drain in his arm too.. didn't expect that.

Have I mentioned that I hate hospitals? That is why I opted to have a drive by mastectomy. Went in at 6am and was home by 4pm. Every time I'm in the hospital I push myself to get out ASAP. I figure the sooner I get out, the quicker I get away from all those germs. Not to mention that people die in hospitals, and I don't want to be one of them! As soon as I'm halfway coherent after a surgery I'm trying to get out of bed. Get this catheter out, get the freaking leg pump things off and let me out of here!

Well hopefully they can get his pain meds figured out soon. So how much longer does he have to stay? I know you probably said, but I forgot.

Remember when you used to go to the hospital and get taken care of? Now it seems like there are people in and out of the room all the time and nobody seems to have a clue. When I was in for my reconstruction surgery, they kept ignoring my arm band that said I can't have iv's or bp done on my left arm. I finally went to the nurses desk and asked for a marker pen...then I wrote it in big letters on my arm! Didn't have a problem after that.

It is very strange to be friends with someone on FB that is famous. I don't know Nancy Brinker, other then as the founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. But I'm now on her FB page as a friend, she has personal photos of family and posts on there. Obviously she's a public figure, so she's not playing Mafia Wars of taking quizzes. But still it's just personal enough to be strange.

It's kind of strange because thru my job I've met and talked to famous or influential people before. But I knew them. This is weird, like not knowing someone, but still being allowed into their personal space.

I guess I've always thought that public figures should have a personal life that the public doesn't get invited into. Don't get me wrong I'm very honored to be invited as her friend. I just feel like I shouldn't really be there. Does that make sense??

Update...
He got a Percocet and something to eat.. in that order... he upchucked it.
He said the Percocet was in for about 45 minutes, he sounded so much better.. breathing easier and more like his usual self

He is to be discharged in the morning, as long as the surgeon does the needed discharge orders.

E too can not have IVs or blood pressures on his left arm due to his fistula. It can easily be damaged by someone without the knowledge of how it works. Renal nurses are well aware and on renal units they have pre made signs to post above the beds.

But on other units, going by ambulance, in the ER, etc ..
One of us is telling the techs and assistants .. NO NO No

Also, telling staff that he dialyzes at home not at a center makes for some confusion (oh you mean peritoneal. No, hemo. Really??! Yes, really) .

"At your next dialysis, the center will..."
You better tell us what needs to be done.
"oh... when they draw your labs..."
He draws his own labs...

"oh....."




Nothing like being the oddball to totally screw up there day.

I woke up early this morning and realized that I called my drive thru mastectomy a drive BY mastectomy. Guess there is a difference!

Yep, was sitting on my porch one evening, when all of the sudden out of nowhere this car full of gang members drives by, throws a knife out and it plumb sliced my breast right off!


Drive thru sounds much better. Yep, I'd like a double beef cheeseburger, large fries, chocolate shake and I have a coupon for a free breast removal...."please pull forward".

Glad to hear he's being discharged today. Wish him well for me! Hopefully he will be feeling better this morning.

Update...
He got a Percocet and something to eat.. in that order... he upchucked it.

Hmm, the other surgeon who rounded on dh this morning didn't know why the drain was put in. E told me the step by step of how it was removed.. ewww.

He's got some happy drugs in his system now, snoring in his recliner.
The incision is wicked looking, elbow to armpit with lots of bruising. Tucked a gauze into his armpit, thinking the steri-strips would rub and irritate his armpit... well it would with me anyway. He looks cute right now, the tape from his permcath dressing (gauze 4 x4 and tape all around the edge) has loosened, flapping in the breeze of the fan. Snorts once in awhile, fidgets, smacks his lips and scratches his bare belly ..... He's a hibernating pooh bear dreaming of honey.

hmm, where's the camera? muahahahahha oh wait, I want to live to tell the tale

My mom took Alex and I shoping today. The plan was to get Alex some school clothes, mainly jeans. But alas.. None were to be found. At least nothing that fit him him. Then we went to the commissary.. She stocked me up in formula, and baby food. We got in a fight in the middle of the aisle about how much formula. She told Alex to get 4 or five canisters... I told him to get one. So we were arguing, and she was like.. They have to eat!! I know, but DANG! I was feeling really badly about her buying so much! SO I gave in, because she gave me the death look.. and even at 28 years old, I am skeered of my mama!Then Alex got the 5, and she asked how many were left.. two. So she had him get those too. 7 canisters of formula!! I couldnt believe it. I was crying in the middle of the store. Such a dork. Then my mom was all Shut up Megan.

Then we hit baby food, adn it was $.35 a jar... I am so going to take a picture of my baby cupboard... It is so full.

So I was away fromt he babies for like 5 hours today. the longest EVER! I missed them so much. It was so weird to be out with only one of my kiddos.

ok well as I am getting ready for my trip I got a question for anyone who has a camera in which comes with the neck strap was wondering if anyone uses when they are at any place do you just have it around your neck? cause I am a nikon p80 with one and a nikon d40 with a lens but i dont have any other lenses just yet was wondering if anyone recommends doing it or would I "look" to much of a tourist haha so how is everyone's weekend going?

Ewwww...drain removal. Definitely not fun. Had 2 of them with mast. and 4 with reconstruction. Luckily I learned to take Ibuprofen before going to doctor's office on drain removal days. The longer they are in, the more they sting coming out. Not too bad if they are only in for a couple of days, but very weird feeling tubing wrapped in your body.

Awesome. Everybody knows that Mother Knows Best (even if you are a grown woman). You just shut your mouth and let them take care of you. My mom took me on a few shopping trips after I had the kids, didn't matter that I made more money then they did. It's just something they do. So enjoy it while it lasts. Now if only I could figure out how to get my stepdad and dad to pay for all of DD's expensive Senior year costs. LOL!! See, it will end someday.

I prefer to use a fanny pack when I'm at the parks, but then again I don't have a camera strap. Disney is one of those places I don't mind looking like a tourist, because almost everybody there is a tourist!

I agree, awesome !! Totally let her help out, be gracious and smile .. offer her lots of pics of the grandkids. And yeah, tell me about it.. this year it's marching band costs (he's a junior this school year) .. next year.. eeek! I always feel bad when my mom sends gift cards for the boys' birthdays and Christmas gifts.. because I know she is on a very tight budget.

Not buying chicken stock anymore.. that was too easy to make my own.
I did add about 2 T of our fave bouillon (Knorr with the Spanish label in the Mexican foods section. Oddly it is cheaper than the English label version and it tastes slightly different.. bolder taste.. yum!)

sounds yummy. I had pizza. Spent the day at home watching chick flicks on Lifetime Network and doing laundry and other housework. Dh and the kidlets raced again today. Sometimes a person just needs a weekend of down time, and yes I consider staying home and doing housework down time. We've been pretty busy this summer and haven't been home a lot. I'm going to take Friday and Monday off and we are going camping at the beach next weekend.
