I have never seen anything like this. Scott Lake which, by the way, is really big, had a sinkhole open up in it a few days ago. Today 90% of the lake is GONE! :scared1: Around this lake are amazing homes that use to have boats in the water. Now the boats are on land, turtles, fish and alligators are getting sucked into the hole and no one really knows what to do.

I wish they had some in the air shots. It's just amazing and as of the 5 p.m. news it's still draining at the rate of 100,000 gallons a minute!

Guess this should have been put in the "Things You Should Know About Florida" thread.

Wow! I just emailed this to my parents (who are in Wyoming right now). They're retired in the Lakeland area, and I'm sure it will be interesting to them.

Wow, that is a weird story!! How WOULD you fix that?

Wish I could see the video, but it's just a red x for me.

How strange and scary. Wow, what will the lake-front home owners do?

We had a similar situation here a few years ago. A nearby subdivision had a really nice lake. It wasn't big enough for swimming or boating though. And one day (I believe it was actually overnight) the lake was just gone. Everyone in the subdivision had to pay a certain amount to fill it back up. I'm sure they had to fix it too so that it wouldn't happen again, but I'm not sure there are any guaruntees.

Those are going to be some mighty peeved gators. That's a bizzare story!

OMG!!! My parents live near there and I'd better call them!!

Thanks for the video! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

Will they have to change the name of the town if the lake is gone??? :rotfl:

Seriously though, I heard about this happening somewhere else, too, awhile back. Weird stuff!

Sink holes are all over Florida, not just Lakeland.

Yeah Tallahassee has Lake Jackson which at one point had almost disappeared...haven't been back in a few years so not sure where the lake is now.

This is *my neighborhood*!!!! I live on the street that circles the north side of the lake. It's within walking distance to see this mess and traffic is unbelievable. Barriers have been placed so onlookers can't stop to take photos. I'm concerned some of the gators will be in people's yards, and even my worst fear....many more snakes slithering close to homes!!!! :scared1:
