The first ride we headed to a couple of weeks ago was Pirates. We missed it in the summer because it opened a few days after we were there. But once again I was reminded of how unaware some people are who go to WDW. We were in line when i heard the guy behind me ask his wife if Pirates was some dumb show (his words) or a ride. When we finally got up to the boats he said oh, it's a ride. How could he not know? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The other amusing thing I heard was a debate between a woman and her extended family while on the monorail. She was trying to tell them that they parked in front of Disney and not Epcot. She apparently meant Magic Kingdom. It was all I could do not to laugh. She kept saying we parked at Disney! I wanted to say where at Disney? It's all Disney! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That's why I've been very apprehensive to allowing any of our friends to come with us on vacation if they're not at all interested (ie, a very interested GF bringing her uninterested BF). I'd have a hard time tollerating anyone in my group calling anything at WDW dumb!

I guess as long as her family knows what she's talking about!!!

Quite often you can tell how long someone has gone to WDW by what they call things -- such as Disney for MK and "The Villages" for DTD. When I hear that, I know they have been around awhile. ;)

Our friends were just down for a quick getway and kept talking about going to MGM and Epcot, but didn't get a chance to get to Disney. We just don't correct people anymore. :rolleyes1

I know quite a bit about WDW too but there are plenty of people who don't and that's cool too. For many people, it's their first time there and they don't know very much. They can enjoy their time just the same and shouldn't be ridiculed because they aren't Disney snobs like us.

I agree with Tiki Bird. This is what makes the Dis so much fun: we're all like minded Disney fanatics :earsboy:

Well, I'm not a fanatic but I do know how to read. I wasn't ridiculing anyone BUT was wondering how one could not know it wasn't a ride. You wouldn't have to pick up a touring book just the park guide to figure that out. How about the fact there's been TWO movies released based on the RIDE? I told 2 teenagers in my neighborhood this story and they burst out laughing. :rotfl2:

I STILL think it's amusing that someone can get in a line and not know what it's for. I don't get in a line unless I know what I'm lining up for.

I realize that most of us here are in fact disney addicts and fanatics.

I can understand others not knowing every detail of every ride.

I can even understand others not knowing how to maximize their visit using FP or that babyswap is available. The inner workings of WDW transportation.

What I can't understand is spending thousands of dollars, boarding a plane with my kids in tow and knowing absolutely nothing about where we are going. :confused3

I'm sure we've all encountered those people.

I just had one of DDs teacher come to me .I also coach her son on my DD soccer team.

They are just her and her DD maybe DH going down this week for just a few days.

I put her on WDW sight and went over a few things not to overload her.She was shocked and now understands why we go as offend as we do.I reminded her it was a holiday and it would be crowded but there's ways around that to still enjoy what it has to offer. She made some notes so we will see.

Most families are probably like us--have one super planner and the others just follow along. My DH only knows stuff because I make him listen to me out of my own excitement....otherwise he would know nothing, probably wouldn't even go!!!

Pirates isn't a show?! :rotfl2:

Some people still call MK Disney because there used to be only one park there. DH and I are both FL natives and he sometimes calls MK b/c we used to go when he was little and there was only one park.

I agree. I am the planner and the only DIsney Dork in my family. My DH and I are going on our first trip together in February, only because I've really been wanting to go with him. He wouldn't call anything dumb, but I do think he would ask questions like that. Yes, it might seem like it's a lot of money to spend and not look at the map, but he's going because he knows I love it so much, and probably wouldn't have any interest in going otherwise. I just hope to convert him...

My best friend in the whole wide world that I have been friends with since 1989 grade 9 like the 3rd day of school no matter how many times she has been to WDW ( like 10, 5 of those times she and I were there together) She calls the Magic Kindgom, Disneyworld. :sad2: Ive given up trying to correct her. :confused3

A couple of months ago I encountered a couple and their young child on the monorial. They boarded at the Polynesian and I couldn't help but overhear them talking about going to MGM. The husband was asking the wife which stop on the monorial was MGM. They had a huge folder filled with papers and a guide book.....the wife was trying to look through her information to find the MGM info. I politely interrupted and told them that the monorial does not go directly to MGM....that they would need to exit at one of the hotels/TTC and board a bus to MGM. They were very thankful for the advice.

Even with planning I think a lot of Disney newbies are overwhelmed with all of the information that encompasses a Disney vacation. You have to admit....there's a lot!

My BiL,SiL and their 3 kids (12,10,6) are coming down at the same time we are (nov 30 to dec 6) this is my 15th trip this is their 2nd and first in 13 yrs. I asked him the other day if he has an idea where he was going first, he said "I don't know I dont want to be held to some schedule I'm just going to wing it

Yes, it is a lot to comprehend. It does take effort to coordinate. But it does pay off. We went in May with our family. Our 4 kids ranged in age from 4 to 19 so i had a bit of planning to do to hit everything everyone wanted to do. It was a great trip and I would do it the same. There was little to no stress because of all the pre-planning I put into it.

I went a few weeks ago with my dh. He does not care if I pre-plan or not. He doesn't think it matters. For this trip with just us two I did not plan (except to decide what park to go to on what day). We averaged one attraction every 2 hours. We saw 5 I think at MK on one day. if the kids had been along they would have been MAD! But as couple who had seen everything a few months before it was a lovely time. But even though I didn't do any planning I did skim the latest unofficial guide & website to see if any info had been updated.

When I go on any vacation I at least read the brochures about the place even if I don't get a tour/guide book. But I guess folks are used to showing up at their local amusement park and just getting in line so they go to WDW with the same mindset. But there's so much to see at WDW why would anyone want to miss anything? :) :) :)

i guess it's all a matter of what one knows. for example: the people you overheard didn't know where they were, or what they were doing. you, on the other hand, didn't know that ending a sentence (or two) with a preposition is unacceptable grammar...or; maybe you just forgot, as perhaps, was done on the occasions you mentioned.

the point is- give people a break. not everyone is obsessed over disney world to the point that we all are. perhaps they just don't care about these things; or, they are at wdw for the first time and are learning....just like you once did.

I think the best thing I ever overheard was, while leaving with the throngs after Fantasmic, these 2 women were saying that "maybe we should call and book their breakfast in the castle for tomorrow when we get back to the resort"!!!!

I was soooo wishing I had my UG with me just to show them that there is about 10 pages soley dedicated to the "Cinderella Castle Breakfast' ressies!!! "Set your clock to such and such time-zone",,,"practice calling central reservations so you can time how long it takes to get the call through"..."when you get a CM, don't say ANYTHING but...2ppl, March 10th"!!!!! Too funny!!!!
