Conjoined adult Iranian twins have both died after unprecedented surgery to separate them, Singapore hospital officials announced today. The twins, Laleh and Ladan Bijani, both lost a lot of blood during painstaking surgery to separate them, doctors said. Ladan died first, and Laleh followed several hours later.

I was wondering what happened to them. They were very courageous and upbeat going into this.:(

So sad. They really wanted to be seperate people. The good thing (if you want to look at it this way) is that one was not left behind to feel guilt over the death of the other. I think that is how I would have felt if this were me. So sad.

I questioned the ethics of the doctors allowing this surgery when they knew it had a slim chance of working.

a lot of conjoined twins seem to have that fate. When being seperated or after being seperated, if one twin dies, mostly the other twin will too. :(

I thought for sure we where getting a happy ending here

<font color=navy>They were so hopeful. I remember that last kiss before either of them went in. This is so sad. :(

I agree, may they rest in peace now.

It's very sad. They seemed so full of life and bravely faced this surgery. The risks were many. Of course, the guilt of surviving alone was one risk but they also could have faced living in a vegetative state. All or nothing was the best to be hoped for. Unfortunately, it was nothing. (When this type of surgery is performed on children the chances are increased because the brain tissue will regenerate. It doesn't in adults.)

They did go through extensive counseling prior to the surgery. Two of the reasons doctors agreed to the surgery was because having their heads at that angle caused them to live with tremendous headaches. They were in pain. They were also suffering emotional pain and had tremendous bouts of depression. They stated that one wanted to be a lawyer and the other a journalist. Imagine not being able to pursue a dream.

awwwww that is so sad :( I followed that story too.... :(
