The Twenty Dollar Trick

The CM accepting the bribe just might be upgraded to no job.

So that's what happened!

WDW had to outsource valet because they Disney fired all the attendants for receiving tips, then we lost our free valet From the new vendor.

- predict we will now start hearing about poor mousekeeping due to the good mousekeepers receiving tips, or worse, hearing about reduced menu choices because the good chefs got tips. ;)

On our last trip to BLT I did online check in and asked the cm if there was any other rooms available because we didnt wanna be on the ground floor which we had a standard view, we went to our room and didnt think anything of it and about 5 minutes later we recieved a call and were moved to a 9th floor magic kingdom view and were never charged additional points. So I went down to thank the cm and offer her a tip and she declined and stated that she couldnt except and was just working with what was available but man other cm have taken tips but it wasnt worth her job. BTW love the sweeping the travel industry line, sounds like an infomercial got a good laugh at that and the line I'd report the front desk person who accepted it to member satisfaction, because this is something that SHOULD NOT happen at DVC!!!

Not sure why you thought that was so funny. It's true...it should no happen at DVC. We all pay our dues and pay with points, and if someone can come in and bump a reservation made 11 months out, something rotten is going on.

I'm not about upgrades, slipping someone cash, in the end I should get what I booked and paid for. I'm pleasant when I check in, to date the CM's have always been very pleasant and helpfull, can't say I've ever had a bad experience. When I begin my conversation I ask about a preferred location or floor. and I leave it at that. Why should anyone feel that they are entitled to better then anyone else, we all bought into the same timeshare.

My father used to do this in Miami Beach during the 1950s. At that time, a "reservation" was not a guarantee--in other words, you could arrive at a major Miami hotel and find them booked, even if you had a confirmed reservation. The $20 trick, which was a lot more valuable then, often solved the problem.

With my luck I would give the Vegas clerk $20 and get an upgrade worth $10.

In lots of positions at Disney they tell you not to accept tips. Saying that you would lose your job for accepting a tip is also a bit much to me. I am not a fan of that policy because the general wages for park and hotel workers is not that great. I also see a big difference from accepting a tip AFTER doing your job well as you would for ALL guests vs doing more then you should because a tip/bribe is offered upfront. If the employee was a trustafarian or on a solid salary I might see it another way. I seem to remember a saying/story that a Disney fire was an automatic Universal hire. (Within reason of course) Then again if I had the extra twenties to lay out for upgrades I think I could book it anyway. The flash of cash is just for showing off, I can sell ya my extra points at $20 a point if ya want!
