The Truth About YC

I need opinions/observations about Yacht Club. The good and the bad. Here's a little background. DH wants YC and I prefer to stay closer to MK. He makes a good point when he mentions we've already been there done that and need to try something new. YC is a lovely hotel, but what about the view? Would I be completely disappointed since on our last trip the view was of the castle? We're also interested in concierge. Is that worth it and will it offer us a better view? And if so, of what? Doesn't YC share a pool with BC? Is that ever a problem at all? I need to know these things and you're certainly the people who can tell them to me. TIA

Yes YC does share a "pool" w/ BC, but it is much more than just a pool, more like a mini-water park. Check out Tagrel's slideshow which shows tons of incredible pictures of Storm Along Bay: http://tagrel.com/Tours/Flash/sab.shtml

Also, take a look at this thread for a review of YC concierge:

Hey there, fellow Virginians!! What a wonderful site. Never knew it existed. Thanks for the link! We will be staying at the Beach Club this July and can't wait to show this site to my son and daughter in law.

YC is our Favorite! The view of the boardwalk is wonderful. Especially at night.
The location is also the best in my opinion ( and our favorite park is MK)
A quick walk or boat ride to Epcot. Also the boat ride to MGM is very nice. The bus service at the YC was great. We thought it was quick and never had a problem with it.
We also thought that every cast memeber there was excellent. Much above other resorts on the grounds ( Just Our Opinion)
Storm Along Bay is just great. No pool on grounds can match it.
When you stay at the YC you are close to so much.... Boardwalk, Epcot, MGM, Beach Club, Swan and Dalphin. We really enjoyed this also when it came to meals. So much to pick from that is right there.

We also Loved the rooms. Large and tasteful. We had at view of the lagoon and I would strongly suggest this. It was just the best.
Good luck in what ever you decide. And have a great time :cool1:

I hope this thread brings out the people with the guts to finally tell the truth about YC.

Are you serious or is this sarcasm? Well, the intent behind the title was so people would feel comfortable sharing the good and the bad. In any case, I like your sense of humor.

DETERMINEDONE- We have stayed at the YC a couple of times. Yes they share a pool with the BC. It is a really neat pool with a faux sand bottom that is really a bunch of free form pools connected by little "streams" and bridges all winding around. I have been there during October and during the cooler months. On the nice days in October, it was very crowded and difficult to find chairs. We managed OK, though. There are plenty, you just really have to look!!

I understand what you mean about the view of the castle. That used to be super important for me (#1 importance, actually), but now I just feel like I have been there so many times staring at that castle and Disney has so many other great views to offer that I can really enjoy a view of the BW with the lights shining on the water and the cute friendship boats cruising quietly by, people having fun on the surrey bikes, etc. I really enjoyed that view when we stayed at the Swan in May.

The YC has some good restaurants and in that area of the BWI there are some more great places to eat. You can walk to and from Epcot and even MGM if you are up for it.

The only bad thing - and actually this has kept me from staying there in a couple of years - was that the walls were PAPER thin. (this was several years ago, btw). We had this kid in the room next to us that cried NONSTOP for 24 hours at a time. I am not kidding. It was awful. We called the front desk once as we were worried the kid was getting beaten or something. After that call we didn't really want to keep calling and embarrass everyone. But I just felt like I could hear everything everywhere in that resort. I haven't heard this mentioned before, but that was our experience. It was during a huge conference and all rooms were booked. No chance to switch.

Good luck with your decision. Now what I do is split my stay between an Epcot resort and a MK resort. That just works out best for us - no bus travel to MGM. Some people don't like to split their stay, but I really don't mind and Disney makes it easy. I am doing it again this August between Dolphin and Poly or GF.

We love the area that the Boardwalk/YC/BC are located in. Great location and convenient to two parks. I guess one thing I haven't liked since we have stayed at BC/YC, BCV is that mousekeeping seems to be lacking. Just our experiences so no flaming please. Enjoy your stay.

Anyone else have a problem with noise there? I'm kind of a light sleeper. I seem to remember another post where someone commented about thin walls at the YC & when they changed to the GF the noise heard from other rooms was much less. Or was that you Lives4Disney? I imagine it would be the same at the BC. We loved the Swan; felt it was very quiet. My DH loved the BWI & while it was quiet with the rooms around us, I could hear a lot of noise (footsteps, people dragging heavy objects?) from above us both late at night when we were exhausted & very early in the morning (5:30-6am) when we were trying to catch a few more winks. We were only there 3 nights so we just rolled with it, but subsequently try to request an upper level room if it's available.

The view looking at the Boardwalk all lite up at night is very nice. You can even sit on the beach and watch illunination or Fantasmic over the buildings. Not the Castle but very nice. You can walking around the water you can visit the Swan, Dophin or Boardwalk hotels/rest. which is very nice.

Yes Beach and Yacht share the large mini water park. If you like pools this is Disney's best. Yes it can get crowded but all of Disney's pools can get crowded (well the pool is not crowded but getting a chair can be difficult).

I am not sure where you stayed last but if you stayed at Poly. then this setting will be completely different and may not like it. I believe if you stayed at GF or Contemp. minus the Castle you will really like the Yacht Club.

Maybe you could stay at both if you have enough days.

That wasn't me.......we stuck it out because my kids loved the pool and my husband was in a conference at the S/D at the time so it was convenient. There must be others out there that have had a problem with the thin walls.

We had no problems with noise at all! In fact we commented on feeling like no one else was staying there and the resort was almost full. We heard more when we stayed at AKL ( and that was not much at all)
Sorry that I don't have anything negative to say about YC but we just had one of the most wonderful experiences there. When we went to WDW last April we missed theYC so much ( we stayed at AKL). We even went over to visit :rotfl:

I don't have any experience with the YC, but as someone who switched to the BWI after 24 years of staying at the Poly or GF, I understand your hesitation. I loved standing on the balcony and being able to see the castle and the whole atmosphere of being so close to the MK and I was scared I was going to hate the Epcot area.

I actually love it! There are so many things to do at night and so many dining choices. We absolutely love the BWI and the concierge/itinerary planners. If you're considering staying concierge, the YC, BC and BWI share the same itinerary planners and they are wonderful. I've only been inside the YC for dinner, but I've heard that it has the best guest satisfaction rating out of all of the resorts (at least in past years). As a former MK area convert, I can't imagine staying at the GF again.
