The trip report is up!!!

Thanks for a great report Tikiman!

Darn it, I was hoping to get an Aotearoa LV for the GV price! That happened to us on our very first trip way back in 1987 and for the first 5 minutes in the room all we could do was say "We can see the castle! We can SEE the CASTLE!!" Got the same deal in 1994 as well.

Sorry about service at Captain Cook's. Did they get your order wrong or did they actually change the menu item but not rename it? We usually don't order from the grill but just pick up the pre-made stuff from the refrigerators.

Am I the only one who is disappointed theat Stitch now does the wake-up call? My kids were always thrilled when Mickey called them in the morning. It would be great if they could program a choice for the wake-up call.

Cakes, treasure chests, champagne - now everyone will expect it! Glad they did something special for you!

I actually once interviewed the woman who is the head of housekeeping at AKL for a summer job here in Connecticut (when she was still in college.) I know her first name but not her new married name. I'll see if I can get it from her mom (we work for the same company) if you would like to write a letter about the AKL housekeeping.

Any details on the re-do of the longhouses? I imagine they'll be changing the colors schemes and patterns for the room furnishings.

MAHALO and Aloha!

Thanks Steve, for the good and "bad" info. Captain Cook's--arrggh!! That place alone makes concierge manditory, at least then, we rarely go in there. At least some things don't change, it sounds like Marilyn and Chef Dick are as wonderful as ever!:D

When we were at AKL in December, we found they put out the same things each night for the evening service. Did the offerings change while you and Tara were there?

Any info on whether the concierge offerings will be as extensive as they have been? Or will they be cut back during the time in the Tahiti building?

Glad to hear they acknowledged your celebrations. Btw, Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday!!

Great report I thought I posted on this thread. Don't you love the way we have all told you what o do with your not even created family? Got to love us moms and dads.

Thanks for the trip report and your incredible web site! The Polynesian is hubby's and my first love. It was our first on-site resort together back in 1992-93. Our honeymoon was in Hawaii so it makes perfect sense. We are trying the Polynesian Concierge for the first time this August and can't wait!! Our six yr old Robby can't wait to "see" Stitch around the resort.;>) We have seen the movie twice and have the video games. :)

Poly Pal,

I was getting a little tired and forgot to mention that I did go to Captain cook’s again on other nights for the pizza and it was very good and the service was much better. They did not give me the wrong order they just changed it. Looks like another budget cut.

The rehab on the longhouses is not supposed to change the look just make everything new and cement in the areas where moisture is causing damage to the older wood construction.

Pixiechick,

The weather has been just like other Julys. A little rain around 3:00 and in the mid to high 90’s. Some days were wonderful with it being warm but overcast with no rain. The concierge offerings are still very good but you can see that some things have been cut like having the more expensive fruits out and some of the offerings are limited but still very good. I forgot to mention that Chef Dick offers up some great deserts for diabetics. I need to add that to my report. They looked so good I wanted to eat them. The offerings in the lounge when they move over to Tahiti will not be any less.

Thanks for posting your trip report. I have reservations at the Polynesian for Nov. I'm alittle concerned about the construction. I took it from your report that there are boards up around the longhouse being worked on. Do you believe that will most likely be the case come Nov.? I'm wondering if I should change my resort choice until the refurbishment is complete.

*belle*
Yes there are walls up around the longhouses. I would think they would be done by November. Even if they are not they are away from the other longhouses with an exception of Tuvalu so the chances are that you will not be near it. I still think they will be done by then and maybe you can be one of the first in the new rooms.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks, Tikiman. Do you happen to know whether they are planning on doing all the longhouses? I'm concerned there will be on going construction.

I believe Tuvalu was done last October so after Fiji and Aotearoa are done than that whole area of longhouses will be done. Than I would think they would do Rarotonga, Niue and Samoa with Hawaii being next Summer. The newer longhouses will not get as extensive of work done since they were constructed different. They were not sure themselves of the order of rehab but it was not noisy and they have if hidden well. I did sneak a few pictures when I was taking my tour.

Steve .... please recommend best lagoon view building to request.

Thanks!

Tahiti is the best lagoon view longhouse that is non concierge.

Thanks, Steve, for the detailed report! You help keep the magic alive for all of us!
We are going to try AKL this Dec, and perhaps return to Poly in 2003.

I can't wait to read your report! I'm so busy at work that I haven't been able to read the boards very much. We're planning a trip for the off season, and I have never stayed at the Poly. Now that I can afford to stay at a monorail resort, I want to make sure that we pick the best one! :D

Thank you for the wonderful great trip report, Steve.
I was wondering if they mentioned what part of June will they start the rehab on the Hawaii longhouse. I was going to book from 5/24-6/3.
Thanks,
Gail

Aloha Gail,

None of those details have been decided yet. The announcment of moving to the Tahiti was something that was not even supposed to get out but a CM at the concierge sent out the information to some guests. They said all the plans they have can change so much before now and then that they do not have all the details. They are still waiting to find out how much money will be approved for the rehab so they can see how much they can do. As of now they are just planning on the whole month of June to have the rooms blocked in the Hawaii longhouse till about September.
