The Tribute in Light

Tonite as part of the day long tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11/01 they lit the "Tribute in Light" This memorial consists of 2 huge squares of light that form "towers" that ascend into heaven. What starts on the ground as individual blue lights gradually softens and blends into one shaft of blue light that seems endless. Tonite with the cloud cover it seems to end in a bright ball of white light. Each time it is lit it is different and more beautiful. The night here in NYC is just as beautiful as today was and the tribute in Light is shining brightly. It can be seen all over Manhattan. I can't think of any more fitting tribute.

We have a clear view from our front yard, street. We can only see one stream, but two points where it "ends" in the sky. My DH just got home and said he could see it from Sterling Forest, NY. I came home from my grandparents this evening and I probably started seeing it around exit 100, everyone was driving kind of slow.

I was able to see it from the front of my house. From where I am it looks like only one beam of light, but still touching.

I'm so jealous that you can see it. I've seen it via the tv but I imagine it is quite different in person.

We here in Hazlet can see the lights.......again, it appears as only one, but we can see it. It's such a different feeling to be able to see it in person than on tv, just as it was in the days following the 11th when we were able to see the smoke. I guess that's the way it is with any type of devestating event like this. We here in NJ see the devestation in Fl., & around the carribean for that matter, caused by the hurricanes and our hearts go out to you guys down there........however, I know by dealing with the WTC, you never know how it really feels unless you are personally affected. As a Port Authority Police Officer who worked in lower Manhattan the days following the 11th ( would you believe I was on vacation the day it happened ) I sometimes can still smell that smell that loomed over lower Manhattan and Jersey City for the month or so after the 11th. Anyone who was in the area at that time knows what I am talking about. It's just strange how things like that stay with you.........so different than just watching it on tv. God Bless my 37 fellow officers that died as heroes and all the other innocent souls who perished that terrible day. We will never forget!

We just got back from Ground Zero. Very, very crowded and truly heart wrenching. A wonderful sight to see the light tribute. In the dark sky there are birds flying in the both lights. When you look up at it, it looks like the souls of all those taken that dreadful day. A wonderful, wonderful tribute that just left a pain in my heart.

The lights itself are directly across the street from Ground Zero. They are a group of flood lights in a circle facing up into the heavens. I can't say enough how beautiful it was to see. What a sad day for all of us.

DH called me outside last night-we could see the lights from our front yard.
They must be really high for us to see them from here!!
It was beautiful.
