The things you see at Wal Mart

Well the head lice incident took place at the Wal-Mart on Route 1 in North Brunswick, NJ, Middlesex County. Midlessex County is listed as one of the most expensive places to live in the US. North Brunswick is primarily upper middle to upper income. Median household income during the last census was $66,000+, that number was expected to rise steadily. Per Capita income was in the mid $30,000 range. It's hard to find a single family home for under $400,000, townhouses generally run $275,000-500,000. We are not talking impoverished areas.

I live closer to the Princeton/west windsor walmart & find the people who work there are often mean and/or unhelpful. I often wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that they work in Walmart, when there are so many well off people in the area. I also find many of the people who live nearby are somewhat snobby and perhaps their atttitude make the walmart workers crabby. :)

So far the one in Hamilton seems fine. The employees are pleasant. The customers are mostly dressed for daytime and lice-free. :teeth:

I know quite a few that live near that Walmart and they wouldn't dare shop there.

The one in South Clermont/Four Corners is OK, not great, not bad.

Lol, that is the one I always go to. It is less than five minutes from where I live, and it is so convenient. I agree with it is ok, and usually not that crowded.

That's the one I slipped on the laundry detergent at, they accused me of trying to stage an accident. I should have sued them just for being jerks! I don't think that's the problem with the Wal-Mart workers--think about it this way--right across the street is the Number One company in the US to work for--Wegman's (a non-union grocery store, but that's another topic) and the associates there are wonderful and serve the same geographic region, and thus a good part of the same clientele.

In all seriousness, sounds like the one in Manville.

Ever since some lady that looked like she was fresh out of prison used my cart to drive me a good 3 feet back into the shelves because she was in a hurry the day after thanksgiving I try and stay away from wal mart. That same trip I was treated to a chorus of F this and F that between a mother and son in line next to me. No thanks. I know it can happen anywhere but every time I am in this particular store in Moreno Valley I end up going, WHY DID I COME HERE? No low price is worth that.

When I walked out of a Super WalMart the other night there was a guy sitting on the bench smoking weed. I just rolled my eyes and said only at Wal-Mart :rotfl:

Walmart in Homestead, Fla is very nice. Workers are pleasant, prices are good. WE drive past a Target in Cutler Bay to go down to Walmart. One big reason is prescription prices. Best in town and the pharmacist is really helpful in finding ways to reduce the cost for me since I don't have insurance. And their Reli-On insulin is half the price of any of the other paharmacies in town. HAd to go right after hurricane Wilma and met about a half dozen of my students there and everyone of them was pleasant and asked how we had fared and did we need any help. And these are kids I sub for. Oh have a Kmart amost across from Target and that is the worst of the 3. The Target is frequently a mess and disorganized.

I think the WalMart in Clermont is quite nice. Haven't seen any weird looking folks there. Never very crowded and the store is pretty clean.

Hmmm...depends on your definition of weird...I've seen some tourists (you can tell by the sun burns LOL!) wearing some pretty *funky* outifts! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The target in my town hires great employees, whereas the Walmart 15 miles away (nearest one) hires people that shouldn't work in customer service.
This is my main problem with Wal-mart. Not the people who shop there, I'm usually too busy hunting down what I need to really notice others, but the workers themselves. The customer service at most of the Wal-marts I've been in (CA. and MI) is terrible.

This is what happened to me just yesterday at our local Wal-mart:
I recieved a gift card to there from my MiL, so I went, did my shopping, and went to go pay. The total was $48 and change so I gave the clerk the gift card for $50.

She ran it through. Nothing happened. She did it again, and again, and again. It's not working. She's clearly p.o.'d and is sighing and rolling her eyes. She starts punching a bunch of numbers. Still nothing.

She looks at me and sighs and shrugs her shoulders. Meanwhile there is now a line of people and I'm starting to feel embarrassed as if this is somehow my fault because everyone else is getting annoyed.

She says, "It won't work", and then just stands there. I said, "Can you call a manager?" She does. The manager, to give her credit, shows up quickly and is able to fix whatever was wrong and it goes through just fine. The clerk then looks at me and says, "Ugh, this is why I hate gift cards!"

Okay. No apology to me or to the people waiting. Just total disgust that I brought in this gift card and caused her to be inconvienenced. The worst part of all? The manager never bothered to explain to the clerk what the problem was or how to remedy it in the future.

Heaven help the next person who goes to that Wal-mart with a gift card and gets that clerk.

Exact same thing happened to me at the Post Office a couple of years ago.. They managed to wipe out my entire Paypal account (several hundred dollars).. Maybe we should all avoid the Post Offices as well.... :confused3

I do try to avoid post offices if I can! :goodvibes Too crowded!! ;)

My complaint was the lack of customer service, not that she had trouble with the gift card.
It's simple: If you have a problem you apologize to the customer and call for help, you do not make them feel like they are bothering you. And the manager should have shown the poor girl what the problem was so she could handle it on her own next time.
By not teaching her how to take care of it, the manager was ensuring that it will happen again, thereby resulting in another upset customer.

Have I ever recieved poor customer service else where? Of course.
But most of my experiences at Wal-mart have shown me that the customer service just isn't there. Maybe that's the management's fault. The associates are only as good as they are trained to be. I don't know. :confused3 This is just my experience. Others may obviously have had better ones. Hope so anyways...

I've gotten some of the best customer service at Walmart. Once I bought a bunch of stuff and accidentally used my debit card! Well I ran back in the store and the lady in customer service, gave me a cash refund of all the items, then re-rang up the purchase and let me use my credit card! What a lifesaver -- I went to the bank right away and deposited to cash so I wouldn't overdraw. Granted it WAS 8 a.m. in the morning, so they weren't that crowded, but I imagine if I tried to do that at Hyvee the girl would have rolled my eyes. Once I returned something at Hyvee and the girl was so rude and demnaded "what's wrong with it?" I gave up on that store -- it may be clean, but it's higher priced and some of the employees have a snobby attitude.

The only problem I have with Walmart is the fact that they NEVER EVER EVER have the 3 pack of heavyweight, tubular hangers!!! It's ridiculous. They are made in America and only $.97 and excellent quality, but everytime I go in there they are out!

The one thing the post office HAS gotten right is that new automated machine. What a lifesaver! I'll never understand the logic behind closing at 1 p.m. the Saturday before Christmas. Oh that bugged me! Plus I don't think the clerks could go ANY slower. Of course, just my luck, the automated machine was broken that day.

We have a very nice Wal-mart here in Massapequa. They took over an empty store in the local mall. It's always clean, the customers are nice & so are the employees. My dad had to return something the other day. After reading all the stories about bad customer service from Wal Mart employees, I warned him. Well, he had the best experience--the clerk escorted him to the customer service desk to make sure he got his money back. And the customer service person was great. Meanwhile, when I went to Kohl's last Friday night, the store was a mess (I couldn't even go near the toy dept--the toys were all over the floor) the lines were long & I just walked out.

The only thing I don't like about our local Wal-Mart is that it is always so crowded. In fact, there's always so many people there that I always run into someone I know. The store is clean and most of the sales staff are pleasant and helpful. The prices are great and I love the fact that they will match prices from other grocery stores. If I have to get a big order of groceries, that's where we go because it's so much cheaper than anywhere else.

I like Target too. They have good sales and a nice selection of clothing and accessories. I usually don't buy toiletries or OTC meds there, though, because Wal-Mart is cheaper for the same product.

The Wal-Mart in Charlottesville is disgusting and dirty. I only go there very early in the morning when it's absolutely necessary. What I really hated was on weekends it was like a meeting spot for family and friends who stood in the middle of the aisles talking, blocking the way for everyone else with no intention of moving or getting out of the way. I always came out of there p*&##$% off so I stopped going on weekends, period.

I do shop at the super Wal-Mart in Richmond, it is newer and much nicer than the one in C'ville. The groceries there are way cheaper than what we pay in C'ville grocery stores. (For example, land o'lakes margarine .88 compared to 1.19, Hormel black label bacon 2.50 compared to 4.99, grapes 1.29 lb instead of 2.99 lb). I still go at off times and don't usually encounter a large number of people.

Back to the original post, the person dressed in the nightgown very well may have been, and most likely was, mentally ill. I wonder if anyone who saw them felt any compassion or concern, or if they just figured "Well, its Walmart." :confused3

I live near a walmart in a poor, high crime area of town, and also near one in an upscale subdivision area of town. I have run into more rude, nasty, obnoxious people with a feeling of entitlement at the one in the upscale area BY FAR. I guess it all just depends on what offends someone.

There are actually several Wal-Mart supercenters in the Richmond area that are nice. There is 1 that is downright filthy and another that is somewhat iffy.

I think it's really sad to judge the other shoppers in the store.
