Im just fine. Its a little irritating when someone INSISTS that they know you and how you are from posting online. This whole thing is stupid! Trying not to let the stupidity of others effect me.

Why are people always saying this to me? I don't regret and Im not saying anything rude and attacking. I can't say that for some others here and its been happening alot on this site. I guess you fit in when you act like that, so I guess...why not. I will start personally attacking and then I will fit right in. It makes me so mad, I just laugh in disbelief sometimes. Some other people here need to reevaluate their words expressing their opininons, not me. My opinions are right for me and nobody will change that. You can suggest something to me, but not many people do that here. They rudely give their opinions and damn you if you disagree with them.

So, it's okay for you to have your opinion, but we all need to reevaluate ours? Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean that you are right and they are wrong, or visa versa.

Another thought--the OP asked the child about the tickets in front of his DDs. If the kid exaggerated about the number of concerts, she certainly wouldn't admit that in front of the DDs.

It sure sounds like an exaggeration to me. Taylor Swift AND the Jonas Brothers? It could be that the little girl wants the other kids to envy her since those are concerts that appeal to kids in that age group.

This thread has sure taken some interesting turns.

I think schools probably do need to set and adhere to gift policies. My guess is that so many event tickets over such a short period of time would exceed even the most liberal of guidelines.

The gift policies I'm aware of stipulate that a gift of tickets be placed at face value, no matter what the giver did or did not pay for them.

FWIW, one local school district ended up paying a family a settlement of $80,000 plus $75,000 in education services for their child a few years back. The parents filed a lawsuit claiming teachers solicited gifts. I bet that district has an official gift policy in place.

Absent any such policy I guess it's just a matter of personal opinion, and I can see both sides on this one.

I don't think it's inappropriate. I often gave things to my kids' teachers because I was in the position to do so. Some teachers inspire that in people. My children have been fortunate to have so many wonderful, giving teachers. I've often done it because I wanted them to know they were appreciated.

I had extra orchestra tickets to Phantom of the Opera in NYC years ago (about $70 a pop) - I couldn't go, so I called my son's kindergarten teacher (who was nice enough to provide his home phone number to parents) who is an actor and theater buff and asked him if he wanted them. He was a great, amazing teacher and I knew they'd be appreciated.

I've often dropped surprises off for teachers to brighten their day. I sent birthday flowers to my kids' favorite gym teacher (she shared a birthday with my son) because it was her last birthday in the school as she was retiring that June. She came to my store later on that day in tears, she was so thankful.

I can't imagine there is anything an elementary school teacher could "give" in return so that it could be misconstrued as a bribe.

I reward kind people with special things. Perhaps that is all this family is doing. They are in a position to give some coveted tickets out - how do you know they don't give them to their hairdresser and car mechanic as well?

I think way more is being made of this than is necessary. Can't people just do nice things for others without people thinking there are ulterior motives or questioning whether or not it's appropriate?
