While I was sitting peacefully in StoryBookLand,a girl said "I need a boy." Suddenly,a girl came up and said,"are u taken",then the girl who said she needed a boy said,"no he is mine." They started fighting, then I zoomed out of the room. OMG,just because I am dressed up as Sora does NOT mean that I do the taken thing!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1:

I Know!! You won't belive how many people come up to me and say "Are you taken?" And when in your signature it says "I don't do the taken thing" and people come up to you anyways asking, it's just like you want to say " READ AND GET A LIFE!"
It is really hard when you know the person and they ask you, but you still say 'no' for the fact you don't know them in rl.. but when they just want to be friends with you because they think you are hot, then it gets wrong! :scared:

I hate it too! Its stupid that they find a bunch of pixels made to look like people "hot". PLus you never know who you are really talking to on the other side. It could be your Dad...you never know!

:scared1: :scared1: :faint:  I know it is wierd like i was playing vmk a girl asked me and i said no i dont want a girl and she called me a beep! :furious:

I know girls who do the taken thing do that all the time, they ask you, the boy politely says no and they try calling him a bad word! :furious: I think the taken thing should be against VMK values! its asking an online stranger who you dont even know!

I must first say that I too strongly edge on the side of disliking the "taken" situation, however, like the other annoying matters in life I have adjusted to dealing with it. It really is sad when you have to just sit back and live with things but in vmk, it simply has grown to the level where no one can really do anything (at least not in a suitable and proper way). I suppose each situation can be debated and everyone will back their side up with substantial facts and opinions. What I mean is, even this "taken" situation has a few points that are justified. While it does amaze me the way some people raise the bar a little too high with this issue, I just remind myself that this is a free game and I choose to play among these people. The ignore button would be a great remedy for taking out "taken" (at least from our eyes) but it really has become too large to control that way.

If the taken thing really digs under someone's skin, maybe taking a short break from vmk will relive some of the frustration levels within that person.

And now, may I speak a few words as I take a side. lol

I find it unreasonable and inconsiderate for people to constantly irk a person when it is written so clearly in that person's signature that he or she "does not do the taken thing". Now, I do not have it as a part of mine, but I seldom get asked whether I am taken lol (heh, should I consider that good or bad? rofl) However, my point is, it only takes a second to read a signature and cannot be torture to simply click on the avatar. Can it?

If someone feels the need to be "taken" in a virtaul game, that disturbs me in a small way. I understand some kids like to play "house" and what not, but I have observed some people taking it far beyond the casual "house-play". I also understand that it is easy to be fooled into believing the avatar is a replica of what the person is really like. I bet, if the vmk characters had real life pictures attached to them, the whole taken thing would slowly reduce. What I mean is, it will be more like actually talking to the person and feelings of embarrassment and reality start to give way. People see who they are really talking to. Can it be assumed as the same thing? The only difference would be seeing a face. Hmmm...I wonder what would come of vmk if pictures were added to the talking.

I truly believe vmk would be a better place without the "taken" issue. Now, I don't mean it as in take away "imagination". I am sure there are other ways to express imagination. But does this not encourage "dating" at a much younger age? (I am also not stating my opinion on that, as it is a whole other matter) Despite the Disney movies that exemplify kids "going out" with another, vmk is not the kind of place the kids should be practicing this sort of thing.

In my honest opinion, I would love vmk to take care of the "taken" issue, but reality is, that has simply reached impossible a long time ago. Limiting dictionary words will only make for talking even more difficult. People will find another way to talk "taken" talk.

Very well said loves disney :thumbsup2 I couldnt agree with you more on this!

I got tired of the taken thing also, I couldnt go no were without being asked. But now, no one ask me! know why?

hehe... just turn yourself green/blue/pink and no one will ask you :rotfl2: ive been green ever since and never get asked!

Personally, I can't stand the taken thing. To me it just sells yourself cheap. It smacks of disrespecting yourself and those around you.

I mean, honsestly. Do these people go out irl and go up to complete strangers and say "Are you taken"?
I don't think so. I do think it's slightly representative of how people no longer have respect for themselves or others.

The whole thing just makes me think of them as streetwalkers.

A lot of the time when I see someone going around and asking that, I just say "don't be cheap".

I don't know if this has been said before but "taken" sounds as if people are referring to others as objects :sad2:

I agree. And it's very disrespectful of yourself and of others.
You're basically offering yourself up on a plate. Available to the first person that responds. And that makes you something that I won't say here.

Hi,
Ok my take :teeth:
On VMK I have a boy character but I am a girl-Long story i will tell someday thanks to my son.
Anyway i was on main street and this girl comes up to me says are u taken. I just sit here at home and laugh and wish i could say by the way i am a girl.If only they knew :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
When she asked I said what I always say "I do not do taken but thank you for asking". Well I did not know that a staff had come on to main street and heard me. They said to me "That was a very nice answer to that question :goodvibes ". made my night.
I just tell them that and move on.

Same thing happened to me, I was in the Sci-Fi diner and this girl came up to me and said r u taken . Then this other girl started fighting over me. It's kinda wierd.

I think that is the part of taken that bugs me the most- because it is the little girls who are more aggressive with this issue- but sadly with two dd's 14y and 8y I know that it is also true in real life- the girls are much more aggressive and feel the need to have a boyfriend (in general) more so than the boys the same age have the for the girls...

SO I usually shake my head when I'm in a public place and watch as a girl goes from one boy to the next asking them if they are taken and if not would they like to be...

I've seen a few boys respond with "I don't want a girl friend but we can be just friends" which I usually say something about great answer.

And I know more than once, with the multple years of Girl Scouting that I have lead, that I have said to girls- "You don't need a boy to make you a person" But really many just don't see it that way- and feel they have to have a boy friend. I saw it growing up myself with my friends and I've seen it with my daughters and their friends...

My 8yo dd has a little boy that calls her- and the 14yo had a fit until she found out he called her for homework- then fast forward a few weeks and we are in front of a store pushing Girl Scout Cookies and lo and behold- I hear my 8yo tell one of my older Girl Scouts "that boy is my boyfriend" and as he walks up you hear the boy tell his mom that my dd is his girl friend and he needs to stop and say hi- his mom is beaming and thinks it is cute (he is her first child) and my dd says- to the boy after greeting him -"you have to buy cookies from us" And on the way out mom stops and buys a case of cookies- the other mom sitting at the table says- "I think more of our girls need boyfriends" lol

So in real life it does start early- and it is there- I remember my 14yo dd coming home in 3rd grade upset because the boy she liked is "dating" another girl- and I was just flabbergasted- because she was so upset about a boy in the 3rd grade... and that was my first "You don't need a boy to be a woman" speech given... and believe me it has been repeated-

But I think the whole "taken" thing is bigger than vmk is the point I guess I'm rambling on about- that whoever the girl was that first started "taken" in VMK really just set a precedant for all other little girls to strive for... just like in real life.

Very sad- that they have to be "taken" and can't just get to know people and hang out and be friends... and I'm sure some of it is newer players who see that as a way to make friends- if they get a boyfriend they get to hang out with their friends too- but yeah- other than my personal feelings of how sad some girls (and boys) see themselves as objects- I tend to ignore the whole issue of it... unless some random kid wanders into one of my rooms or friends rooms- then... I give them my full opinion (until they run away of course lol)

The other day i was asked if i was taken. Bad enough right?
I clicked to read the signature, boy was i shocked!

She danced around the dictionary and I can not repeat what it said.
It was that vulgar.

This happened to DS last night. Some girl, whom he had befriended, bugged him nonstop with the taken thing. What does that mean exactly? He begged off with the "let's be friends" line, but it's annoying--especially from someone you don't even know.

Nope don't think you are insulting her at all... of course you should know that at 8yo being a boyfriend consists of he does what she tells him to at school and he listens lol-

In our area it is unfortunately quite common- and I recall growing up and saying some boy was my "boyfriend" and all that would happen is we would play together lol

But I do know also that in a few short years it won't be as innocent- I know way too much of what happens in middle school to look at anything lightly- if you notice I commented about the mom of this boy- being a little excited and happy about the whole thing- and that this boy was her first child- I wasn't so pleased with the whole thing- my 8yo is my 3rd child... I know what is coming.

And good for you knowing you want to wait until you are 14- but really don't make having a boyfriend a goal in life- and you may be happier- and actually find that you have far more boyfriends that way too...

My opinion on taken: As we know tweens love to do the same things in real life, but I am iffy about it on the World Wide Web for security reasons. It is really an issue of insecurity with the whole 'taken' game, but one I find even the most mature tweens on VMK enjoy to play. I put a few of my friends on VMK, all honors students and great people, every single one was up to 'taken' by the 2nd day. The game has become a VMK 'pastime' and is a very popular game VMK seems to be taking advantage of, by putting Cute or Boot on the TShirts they sell at disneyshopping.com, as something to attract. Taken with a dictionary is the not the worst thing, but I find another popular game VMK prisons and VMK 'bay bes', to be absolutely disgusting. It is a shocker to know these are the kids we talk and socialize with every day. We should not discount people because they play a game we dislike at all, because quite frankly, isn't insecurity and no friends on VMK the issue here?

When taken is taken too far, it is the most dangerous thing, after all. Cute or Boot, I see nothing wrong as long as it does not get out of hand, because don't many young girls do the same thing all over the world?

Teen culture will obviously carry itself into VMK.

I am neutral on this issue.

On the topic of 'bay be', 'prisons in VMK', and daycares, that is unacceptable.

i have a suggestion for an answer to if one is "taken".... tell them nope, i was bought and paid for in full. If nothing else, it will make them confused long enough for you to get away from them. :teeth:

or you could answer them totally irrelevant to the question. my sisters and i do this all the time in real life to a family member that thinks we can hear them talk to us from a totally different room while we are running the vaccuum cleaner. THey might be asking us who knows what and we will say "no george bush is president now". We have no idea what they said. but we all get a great laugh out of it.
