I've been in tears all night!

I went to the tailors to pick up my wedding dress as well as two other dresses I took in to be fitted.

The first two dresses looked wonderful, but when I tried on my wedding dress, my jaw dropped, and not in a good way :scared1:

My dress is satin, with a chiffon overlay and is supposed to look like this:

The bust area had to be taken in on it. On the left hand side there is ruching. They took the dress in on the seam near the ruching, and left a big puff of fabric sticking up. On the right hand side along the side of my bust, the satin has all bunched and looks horrible.

They are saying they can fix the ruching, but the bunching on the side isn't their fault, that the dress was made that way. I think they did something when they took the seam on that side in, and that's why it looks like that, as it didn't look like that before. There are also two seams in the front, and the seams in the chiffon and the seams in the satin do not line up now. To top things off, there was a small black mark on the front of my dress, and the tailor tried to say that one of the beads caught the chiffon and pulled it - HELLO - it was a black mark, not a pull!

I'm livid right now and don't know what to do. If my mom hadn't been there I would have lost it. She convinced me to try to let them fix it, but I'm not feeling good about it. The main tailor didn't really even see an issue with it. I'm thinking I should try to take it elsewhere, but don't know if it can be fixed, and I don't know if they'll try to charge me for the work they have done. :headache:

Oh no.....Im sorry this is happening to you. I really hope that they can fix it.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I hope they're able to fix it. If for some reason they can't - refuse to pay them and take it somewhere else. Chiffon is a tricky and slippery material but it shouldn't be doing the things you're describing and so long as they haven't damaged it, it should be fixable. Worst case, a seamstress can remove it entirely and redo it with a new piece of fabric. Chiffon is not expensive, it just might take some looking to find the right shade.

Thanks! I hope they can fix it.

The problem with the chiffon at the top of the dress is it's covered in beading, so it can't be so easily replaced.

Grr. Tailors like that give us a bad name. It all sounds fixable, they probably were just working quickly since it sounds (in theory) like a simple alteration. Forgetting to account for quirky fabrics can make the easiest changes look terrible. If they just take their time and manipulate the fabric right it shouldn't do that no matter how the dress was made. The puckering can result from them trying to force the side seam into a shape it doesn't like or a bad sewing job. From the apathy he showed it sounds like a bad sewing job. The black mark is probably oil residue from their machine. Spot treatments (or sometimes baby powder even) can take that out or at least make it lighter. Or just stitch a bead on top of it! I hope they fix it all correctly this time- if not I'm sure there is another tailor around who will care.

I am sending good vibes your way, I really hope they can make it right.

Where did you go to get it done? I have heard a lot of great things about Noccé in Kitchener/Waterloo. Apparently she can fix anything. ( I don't have any experience myself). I hope everything works out!

I am so sorry to hear about your dress. That is my concern as well, if anyone knows of a good seamstress in the Detroit, MI area, PLEASE let me know. Thanks!

I had it done at Express Tailors in Waterloo. One of the girls at work took it there, and they did an amazing job on her dress, so I was a little shocked.

I received a phone call today from the lady who had originally fitted me. The owner himself came in today to take a look at my dress, and was not impressed with the work the other guy had done on it.

I went in on my noon hour as he wanted to see what was going on with the right side of my dress. By the time I got there, he already had the leftside with the ruching pretty much fixed. Once he got it on me, he realized it needed a couple little tacks to lay totally perfect, but it looks so much better!

He's not sure what's totally going on with the right side, other than it appears the panels on the under layer are bunching. I'm assuming because the top later of satin was taken in more than that layer. He's going to take the dress apart on that side and see what's going on.

The owner was so much more knowledgeable and sympathetic. They're going to have my dress drycleaned as well to get rid of the black mark.

I'm going back in on Thursday for another trial to see how it's coming along.

Thanks so much for the hugs :grouphug: and the pixie dust! :wizard: I hope it comes out allright!

YAY! I'm so glad it going to be okay! :cool1:
