Introduction
Day One
Day Two

Day Three Wednesday 22nd Aug 2007

When you’ve been to WDW let’s say at least fifteen times, as I have, you may suspect that the attraction, and novelty may have worn off, and by now our trips could be spent relaxing, and just taking in the absolute highlights, and not killing ourselves to undertake a commando style raid one each theme park.

All that makes sense when I write down like that, so why does the thought of a day of “rest” drive me more crazy than Britney Spears in a hairdressers?

There is something engrained deep inside of me that wants to be at the gates of a theme park at 8.30 each morning, wrestling other tourists to the ground to be the first on Splash Mountain. It can’t be explained, it is just who I am I guess, and there is no sign of it changing either now or when I grow up.

These thoughts briefly enter my head at around 4.30 when I turn over to look at the clock next to me. Wow, if we got up now, we could be at the park gates for six…well let’s say seven as the women folk need to get ready first….

The thought vanishes as I return to my slumber, my tiredness being stronger than my desire to beat the CMs to the parks.

I am vaguely aware of the girls being awake and noisy at around 5.00am, but I don’t really wake up properly until 6.30ish. I remind myself that today has been designated a non park day, as previous trips have taught us that the second day is when the journey etc really catches up with you. We’ve spent some second days in Epcot, and had to have a special envoy from ACAS and the United Nations with us to stop the bickering, and the kids were narky too

I make the breakfast. I’m not going to point out that I did yesterday, as by the time I say for the fourteenth time, later in this report, “I made the breakfast” I think you will have got the point.

It was toast again..good toast though, made with that American bread that is 85% sugar.

I care not one jot how quickly everyone is ready, so I lie and watch Hannah Montana for a bit, failing to notice that the girls are getting ready and not watching the TV. By the time I realise I could watch some adult TV, the women are ready, and it is only 8.45. Bet they can’t repeat that tomorrow!!

Today we are heading out for the main pool for some serious doing of nothing. We strike out across the bridge towards where my natural sense of direction (and a quick look at the resort map tell me it is). It is a five minute walk, and we are surprised to see the pool more or less deserted. Mind you it was one of the better episodes of Hannah Montana, so they’ll be along when that finishes no doubt.

We secure beds…well Louise chooses them, as she has to study the trajectory of the sun, the probability of shade encroaching on her, and the moon’s orbit before she is happy to lay down a towel and start to bake.

The girls of course are straight in the pool.

I do some wandering about trying to get my bearings, and take some snaps while it is quiet.

floridaaug07038.jpg

The girls have the pool to themselves for half an hour. I wander into the food court, and get refillable mugs, and then fill the mugs with coffee, diet coke and lemonade, which tasted as bad as it sounds!!

Then I joined the girls in the pool…best to do it now whilst it is quiet to avoid ugly scenes and crowd trouble later…no-one wants a repeat of those scenes again. Women can be so excitable! :D

For the next few hours, not much changes. The girls never leave the pool, and once the lifeguards arrive, and the slide opens, there is even less chance of them leaving.

Louise only moves to change sides and to interrupt my reading to apply one of the seventeen different types of sun cream to her back.

I read in the shade, generally potter around and sweat. It was a tad warm.

We make it all the way until 11.00am today before we have to have some lunch. Impressive.

Louise and I go to the Artist’s Palette, and look at the menu whilst we queue. Being really healthy, and not wanting the breakfast menu they are still serving, we opt for sandwiches. Ten minutes later when I get to the front and order them, the kind CM tells they are pre-made in the fridge to the left.

Nice that…I was missing a bit of queuing today, so that had done the trick nicely.

We all shared two huge Tuna sandwiches, some fruit cups and some chips (crisps), and as the last morsels were swallowed, Louise went back to her griddle and the girls back to the pool.

At 1pm, I’d, sorry, we’d had enough and we leave to get ready to go to MGM. We have an ADR for the Brown Derby and a Fantasmic Dinner Package later.

I take some piccies of the scenery as we walk back to our room.

floridaaug07042.jpg

It is a very pretty resort.

At 2pm we’re all ready to go, and we make the short journey by car (none of this bus nonsense) to MGM.

We park in Music 50, naturally right at the bottom of the row, and catch the tram to the main entrance.

By jingo it looks busy today. The queue for the tram was posted at 90 minutes, but I got a fastpass!

Something we learned today from several CMs….Wednesday is MGM’s busiest day. Good choice fat boy!!

First job as ever is to get a FP for the Rock n Rollercoaster, so I go and do that and the women walk up to the hat, which is currently boarded off undergoing some work. Rebecca wanted to do the Great Movie Ride first so I said I’d meet them there.

When we did meet, a wait of 45 minutes means that we won’t be doing that first, and we wander off to see if Ariel’s shells had grown. Again, a wait beyond my tolerance makes that a no go.

I take a photo, as this is clearly the only thing we can do without a 45 minute wait.

floridaaug07043.jpg

We can’t walk down past where WWTBAM was as this is all blocked off. So we walk back in front of the hat and we notice that the parade is due very shortly so we decide to hang around for that.

We find a bench and sit there with a drink for about two minutes, but when my sweat has reached crevasses I don’t know I have, we all decide it is just too hot to sit in. So, we get up and walk down past the ABC Commisary in search of the Muppets or Star Tours.

We leave Louise outside to catch a bit of sun (again?) as we go for Star Tours…frankly anything with a temperature lower than the surface of the sun would be fine with me.

There is a small queue.

floridaaug07045.jpg

floridaaug07046.jpg

Our trip to Endor is a little eventful as usual, and we leave through the shop and find Louise basking outside.

Next we head for the Muppets and we’re delighted to see that we can walk straight in and the next show is a few minutes away.

floridaaug07050.jpg

floridaaug07051.jpg

We still laugh at this show, no matter how many times we’ve seen it.

Thankfully, it is now time for our ADR at the Brown Derby. We melt as we walk all the way back there from the Muppets, seeing the end of the High School Musical Pep Rally, and we’re delighted to walk into the lobby and book in.

Now then, I like America,. I think we’ve established this. However, one thing that drives me up the wall, and tickles Louise and the girls every trip is the inability of any U.S. citizen to pronounce my name.

I wouldn’t mind if

a) It was Zkkre Gsssty or something similar

b) There were never any Americans called Craig

But neither of these are the case.

Once again, for about the hundredth time, I am called “Cregg”. The girls titter as usual, and I smile and join in the fun, like the easy going sport that I am.

Now you may think it will be hilarious to reply to this report using Cregg as my name…..it won’t be…trust me.

So, suppressing my desire to punch someone we are quickly led to our table.

floridaaug07054.jpg

This meal is one of the best of the holiday, as it usually is.

We had

2 x Cobb Salad shared for appetiser

Look a photo….

floridaaug07055.jpg

4 x Filet Mignon

floridaaug07056.jpg

Blurred…but at least I fought off anyone eating it until I’d tried my best. McSue eat your heart out!!

Then as we’d paid for the set menu thingy, we went down in a blaze of glory by each having a desert, even though we really didn’t want one!

Emily and I had the Banana Cream Tower Thing

floridaaug07057.jpg

Continued....

Louise and Rebecca had the Flourless Chocolate Cake…it was called something like that anyway.

It looked to contain the most raw chocolate so the name was of little relevance to Louise.

floridaaug07058.jpg

Mine was obscenely nice, and Louise did that really annoying wife thing of “just having a taste” of mine. One taste I can just about live with, but because I had ordered the nicer dessert, she took several “tastes”, and we almost came to blows.

I simply ate a bit quicker and finished it off, so then Louise moved on to Emily’s dessert, and another battle ensued.

All this grub along with three glasses of wine (one of which Louise spilt into the bread basket) cost us around $200 plus tip. Quite pricey really, but it was lovely and did include the Fantasmic Package….which turned out to be useless, but more of that later.

We left at 5.30, and within a few minutes the High School Musical thing was starting again, so we watched that.

floridaaug07068.jpg

Louise took a bit of shine to one of the male dancers for some reason.

floridaaug07073.jpg

Well, I used to be fat like him once.

Towards the end of the show they invite the audience up to do the dance routine. My two girls, being massive fans, but British, declined the invite and hid behind their fringe and cap respectively.

The most entertaining part of the show was watching these two blokes give it some.

floridaaug07075.jpg

Next on the agenda was Beauty and the Beast starting at 6.15. We walk down Sunset Boulevard and I get nice shot of TOT on the way.

floridaaug07080.jpg

The temperature was finally becoming almost bearable by now, and we enjoy the show as usual. Gaston was great.

floridaaug07081.jpg

I spend some time admiring these dresses….honest.

floridaaug07086.jpg

It was finally time for our R&RC fastpass…do you remember that far back? Even with a FP we had to wait at least 10 minutes and I think the standby queue is just clearing about now I think.

We finally make it into the studio, and as we have a couple of times before, Louise and Emily, who have been separated from us, go straight through the door into the alley with the intention of not watching the pre show.

A CM charges after them, threatens to have them deported, and brings them back into the studio. So we stand and watch the Aerosmith boys “act”, and then we get to queue some more.

What a ride. Top stuff.

After trying the Great Movie Ride again, which still had a silly wait time, we try Ariel again, which has an hour wait posted. Not a chance…not even for those clam shells.

We try as a last resort the Animation Tour, but the queue looks big for that, so we are defeated. We grab a drink and sit on a bench people watching for a bit.

We resign ourselves to having to look around the shops for a bit, and we slowly make our way down to Oscars for Fantasmic.

Continued....

We buy the girls some more tat for their ever growing “stuff that lights up but only gets used once” collection.

floridaaug07088.jpg

At this point of this very hot, very long and very busy day, we were all knackered to be honest. What doesn’t help now is that at 8pm, with 30 minutes to go, the arena is full to bursting. There is only standing room at the back, and we take our places there, looking suitably delighted.

floridaaug07090.jpg

Look I said it was busy.

floridaaug07091.jpg

There was a real danger of losing the magic at this point.

With a few minutes to go, Rebecca needs the loo, so Louise takes her out saying she’ll meet us after the show outside. She’d had enough today.

Emily and I stand and watch the show, but what was more entertaining was the silly behaviour of some guests.

Understandably, there had to be a clear area between the end of the seats and the start of the standing area for safety reasons, and it also meant that no-one had their view blocked by someone standing up at the back of the last seats. CMs were moving people back to the standing area all the time up until the show started.

An elderly couple being one of those that had a bit of a paddy about this, saying that “they couldn’t see from the standing area”.

So the show starts, and like two Navy Seals, they creep out under cover of darkness, and find their way to the back of the seated area and start to block the view of about 250 people…who start hurling abuse at them.

Finally, an unhappy guest tells a nearby CM, who has the job of telling them to move. The old girls has a complete paddy and leaves the show entirely. Very entertaining.

The show was OK, but spoiled a little by having to stand and not being able to see everything. So we leave with a minute to go, and we are quickly at the main entrance looking for Louise and Rebecca.

We are out of the exit and onto a tram before you can say never come to MGM on a Wednesday.

As we leave the tram and walk all the way to the bottom of the row to our car, Emily finds a novel way of wearing her light up headband thing.

Exhausted we’re all in bed for 9.15, and asleep by 9.16.

Nice rest day!!!

susan

Thanks for the entertaining report.

Small tutorial, please: pronouncing your name properly. Being from Oklahoma (where our speech reflects both Southern and Western phonics) I would elongate all vowels, which would add a beat, and turn the American "Cregg" you've come to expect into something that sounds more like "Craaa-egg." Wishing to lift myself from my ignorant state, please, instruct me and I promise to practice and learn.

Hmm...best way to explain???

The "ai" in Craig should sound like the "a" in Day.....

But to be honest, Cregg does fine....it makes me think I'm in WDW!!! :thumbsup2
