This trip sort of had it's roots in our trip this past November. My fiance and I were walking through Epcot, talking about how much we loved disney as kids (and still do). Well, that lead to talking about my fiance's best friend, who has two children who have never been to disney. Her daughter is only 1.5 yr old, so she hasn't had much chance to go, but her son is already 8, and that little boy is almost at the age where he'll stop believing in magic. I looked at my fiance and told him that it would break my heart if he didn't get to see Disney when he was still young enough to believe it all.
Anyway, we got home and continued to talk about taking a trip with her. I convinced him to call her and see if she'd even be interested. My only rules: She keeps the trip a secret from the kids till we go, and her son has to try every ride once. He's a ride chicken, and if he can see it from the outside, he normally won't ride because his father has convinced him that rides are dangerous. Well, she said yes, and that's how the trip was started.
So, before I go further, let me introduce our group. First, there's me: Nikki, 23 and a disney fanatic. I love everything about disney, and I would so live there if I could. Second is dh-to-be, Stephen, 26, who tolerates my disney obsession and enjoys disney because "it makes you smile". It made him very happy when I suggested we find a way to bring his best friend and her kids.
Next there's Stephen's best friend Kari, 26. She's a sweet girl, and a wonderful mother to her two kids. She's a single mom and has always been worried about taking both kids to disney on her own. So we solved that problem. She'll have us there to help, and watch her daughter who might be too short for rides that her son wants to go on. I'm excited to share the planning with her, though she's not as crazy a planner as me, so I'll have to work to scale back a little.
Now the stars of the trip:
Kyler is Kari's 8 yr old who has never been to disney. He is interested in it and will as Kari every once in a while if they can go. He'll be almost 9 when we go, and we're gonna make it a huge surprise for him. Stephen and I are going to see if we can afford to do the pirates league for this kid. He's a good boy and deserves the chance to have a lot of fun.
And Savannah, who's currently 21 months. By the time we take the trip she'll be 2.5 yr old. Old enough to enjoy it, but young enough that she's still free. YAY for free. Savannah is adorable, and loves baby dolls. She got a bunch for christmas and named them all Baby. We're gonna surprise her too, but I highly doubt she'll really understand it as much as Kyler will.
At the current moment, we're aiming for October. It'll be a short weekend trip, with no park hopping. We're gonna go to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We figure those are the best parks for the two kids. Not sure if we're staying on property or off property yet, so we'll have to see what comes. A lot of this trip will depend on finances, which is a major reason we're not telling the kids, just in case it doesn't happen.
The last thing we're doing is taking part in Disney's "Give a day, Get a Disney Day" promotion. Stephen and I volunteer anyway, so we're excited to do it. We're doing our volunteer work this Tuesday night in Charlotte. Kari will do one with Kyler as soon as she can. Using this promo, we only have to pay for one more day of tickets. So yay! And if the trip falls through, we'll be donating our tickets to the boys and girls club in Florida.
So there you have it in a nut shell. Hopefully it'll all come through.
