While packing to leave from Saratoga Springs (June 30th), the fire alarm went off. We waited a couple of minutes in the parking lot. A fire engine arrived, but it seemed to be a false alarm or something minor.

Don't worry about sleeping through the alarm; you won't. It's piercing and loud.

This was our first stay in SSR. The studio was very nice. Comfortable bed, sofa, and chairs. attractive furnishings and every staff member we had contact with was pleasant. Buses ran well for us.

The exterior corridors had a little too much echo somestimes. We could hear loud people coming home late sometimes. Our building in the Paddock area was close to the quiet pool and the bus stop. The first floor patio that residents enter from a sliding door has no wall or fence for even a little privacy. Also, the plants from the landscaping have taken over at least a foot of the patio. If I go again, I will ask for an upper floor.

I'm hoping that pets are not allowed in the units. One morning I saw a small dog being walked on the grounds.

I agree!

While staying at SSR a while back, we returned to our 1BR from a day in the parks to find the alarm going off in our room. Wow! It was loud! After a quick call to maintainence it was fixed and checked out. (It was caused by a malfunctioning alarm in the adjoining studio).

Pets are not allowed in DVC rooms, except of course for guide dogs.

I'm guessing this was a malfunction too, since the fire truck arrived without lights or sirens.

My son is thinking about a one bedroom at SSR in October for his honeymoon. Any thoughts since you stayed in a BR? also any suggestions on building locations to request or avoid would be appeciated. Walking around, I thought the 2 buildings in the center whose backs face eacher would be good, or the buidings on the edge of the lake in Congress Park.

I would go with a more romantic resort - VWL is very romantic to me - of course others preferred BWV or BCV.

honeymoon is special so I would suggest that he look at all the DVC resorts before he picks one.

I had Congress Park and it was a lovely view...

here is a map of SSR

I've been to SSR twice and, frankly, I'd think it a great choice for a honeymoon because it has more adult options (e.g. SPA, easy access to golf, easy access to the nightclubs on Pleasure Island, esp. Adventurer's Club, lively late-night lounge area near the Turf Club, etc.) Also, the quiet pools are a great way to relax without lots of kids around. To me, it's hard to find this type of feel at the other resorts -- Beach Club esp. That one seems much more focused on kids because of the pool and the ice cream shop. It depends on what type of honeymoon you want, of course, but if you are think that romantic includes a massage and late night fun, I'd say SSR for sure . . . just my two cents . . .

spiceycat and happyrebster: Thanks for your input. I had not been able to log on for a while to read them. Your posts will be sent to my son and future D-I-L. Different views, but both helpful.

Another example of why these boards are so popular as well as usefull.

Just got back myself. Some may remember my smoke incident last trip. ANYWAY...Monday night (7/3) the alarm went off in the Paddock (the building next to the quiet pool also) section at 12:30AM. It was loud but somehow my dd5 slept through it as we went down the stairs. The fire trucks came with sirens but the firemen didnt have any gear on. They didn't look happy. It looked like a short or something. We were outside for a few minutes and then sent back up.

Ahhhh to have a trip with no fire trucks!

Went to see POTC Dead Man's Chest on Saturday evening with DW (the same person present during the SSR alarm). With about 45 minutes to an hour left, the fire alarm cleared us out. I t seemed to be a false alarm, but the strobe lights were still flashing after the fire engine came and went. They did not allow anyone to return, so we picked up vouchers from theater employees in the parking lot. (Yes, I had saved our stubs, and even managed to locate them right away among the assorted trinkets and debris in my pockets.

I am not happy. All day Monday, I kept hearing about the recod box office the movie did. If they just barely beat the previous record, I want a recount. Deduct the receipts obtained from us and my fellow evacuees!

Hi all,
Did i hear someone scream fire,I'm hear! Lol Just thought you should all read and hear this. Here in nyc,not so sure if it's happening anywhere else.In some of the nicest hotels a few slime bags wait to its late, but it has happened the afternoon as well.these dirt bags press or pull the fire alarms, and pretend to be scared in the hall ways and or just watch as you will hurry to leave your room. The problem here is,that some will fold the lock the wrong way or not lock thier room door at all, when rushing out from a fire alarm, then these dirt bags, see you leave and go into your room and rob you blind.Remember if you hear the alarm of any kind get out,but close and lock the door behind you.If me and my guys need to get into a door a locked one has never stopped us before. In the event of a fire a closed door will also stop the fire from spreading too.We have seen this pull and rob as we have named it,alot lately here in nyc,and lately now hotels have signs warning people about locking thier door if they leave in a hurry, but won't specify why.Have a great day all.

Happened to us at BWV about 2AM.Although it only went off on our floor.

Same thing happened to us at VWL but it was outside the hotel. It was VERY loud at 3am.

OMG, what a small world. My brother and his girlfriend were in the same movie theater on Grant seeing the same movie as you were on Saturday night. He called me when it was happening and he just couldn't believe it.

We used our vouchers tonight and went with our son and his GF. I guess they were good luck - we saw the whole movie.

Hey, abk96: ask you brother about the patrons, who instead of getting out, stood by the door or in the aisle watching as much as the movie as they could before whatever impending doom we were running from finally forced them out. The only problem with their little plan was the rest of us behind them would not get out as quickly as they would. No jury would convict me...

Some people just amaze me sometimes. I'm glad to hear you got to see the whole movie.
