I am so old, that school was just being built when I was in my senior year!:p

We lived in Rhode Island for over 3 years and my son was born there, while we lived in Newport. We loved it there and go back for a visit every couple of years.
:earsgirl:

I'm the friend in the OP. My family and I are making our first trip down as DVC members (SSR) in June. We live in West Warwick.

We are from Cranston and have ben members for one year. Our friends just bought at SSR. We just got back from a cruise and then 4 days at WL. I am going back in July and December.

Count us in! Born and raised in Little Rhody, most of my life in Coventry...graduated Coventry High School 19XX, University of RI, 19XX :) left for a job transfer in 1996, but family is still there ( no one born and rasied in RI ever REALLY leaves, you know) and we are headed "home" (the RI one) this Friday for a week with the families... working on my RI accent in the meantime.
I miss all the food, especially the fish and chips....can only get them other than in RI at the Rose and Crown in Epcot!!!
SSR 300 point Oct 2003.and thinking about a resale for BCV.... first trip to our DVC "home" was June 8th, wish I were there now....

As my screen name implies, another Rhode Islander. Grew up in Woonsocket, me. Moved all the way to North Smithfield in 85 and have been there since. Member since 97. 150 original points, 2 add-ons since.

Another RI to NC transplant! It is true, no one born and rasied in RI ever REALLY leaves. I miss the food also. I miss the clam cakes and chowder. I have finally found good clam chowder here in NC at the NC legislative cafeteria of all places! But no clam cakes. And I agree about the fish and chips also.

Keep working on that accent!

My sister is in Portsmouth and my grandparents in Newport. I spend alot of time in Rhode Island and miss the ocean being here in Colorado.

I need some advice about Newport please.

I was invited last summer to join some friends from Boston who rent a home there every summer. It was 95 with about 95% humidity even at night, and we had no air conditioning. I thought I was going to die. It was like being in Florida with no a/c.

I didn't think I would ever go back I was SO miserable, but I really like the people and missed seing so much last year that of course I am going back for two weeks this time - first two weeks of August.

Is it always that hot and humid (temperatures today are quite mild when I checked online)? or was this just an aberation. I lived in northern CA for years and it was usually cold in the summer but we could have a week of 90 plus that was awful.

Summer before last I was in Boston for a week and again very, very hot and humid and no a/c anywhere.

I'm trying to plan a strategy to keep from dying from the heat. It gets hot where I live now, but we have a/c. Now I understand why no one wanted to live in the south before they invented a/c.

I have this fear that I am going to take all of these thin shorts and tank tops and it will be cold this year. Might be better than the heat though.

thanks in advance if you have any advice.

Living in Ashaway and have been DVC member since 1997 - now have contracts for OKW, BCV and SSR. Just made the plane reservations for September and don't know if we have a room yet but there must be some available for the last week. Know some other members from Westerly so guess we represent South County.

arminnie - The humidity in the northeast can be pretty bad at times. If there is no air conditioning a fan can at least help move the air around. If you are near the ocean often the breeze off the water will cool the room down at night.

We don't have humidity in Colorado so I really notice it when I go beack east to visit family. I don't have any advice other than to dress as cool as you can, drink lots of water and have fun!

My dad grew up in Ashaway and my mom grew up in Newport - they live in Jamestown now. A sister - and OKW DVC member - is in North Kingstown. My husband and I just closed last week on an OKW resale. We grew up and live in Connecticut, though.

I'm from Woonsocket, my wife is from Narragansett. Just bought 200 at SSR and we'll be going Home for the first time in December.

I have a co-worker that owns at BCV and a former co-worker that owns at OKW, so I guess you can count another 3 to the list.

Imagine that, another Woonsocket DVC'er. Although I grew up in Bristol...was there over the weekend unfortunately for a funeral. Boy has it changed. Too many snooty people now. I teach in Pawtucket. Anyhow we own at VB, but will be going to OKW with half the state. 10 or family members including Mom, and Dad from Warren (recent move to that town), Sister, B-I-L and twin nephews from Westerly, and the 5 of us. So like I say half the population of RI will be at WDW. :)

We should have a RI DIS meet, maybe at water fire one of these days. :) Anyone interested? PM me if you are, and we can start organizing.
