The shooting has started down here in VA! UPDATE-shootings are by the SAME guy

Earlier somone posted that they don't think the shooting here in VA is related, but now they're not so sure.

Here's an update......

It's really weird, because now everyone is really checking everyone else out. If you drive by someone in a parking lot, they give you the "evil eye" so to speak...people are on the look out.

I told several co-workers it doesn't matter, if there's a man (or woman for that matter) out there with a rifle, by the time you know it's aimed at you, it's probably too late.

From CNN:

The crime scene in Virginia was the only one to produce a shell casing. CNN law enforcement analyst Mike Brooks said police would likely try to recover fingerprints from the bullet's shell.

So this guy had been picking up the shell casings after the other shootings? Or they are still in his car? If he has been picking them up maybe he has been seen but just no one realizes it yet. If he was acting all calm and collected maybe people just thought he was picking up a piece of trash he saw on the ground. Sorry, but this is how my mind works!

Blondie you said that people are on the lookout. The sad part there is that it looks like most of these people were shot from a distance.

I sure do hope they catch this person before anyone else gets shot.

I don't get how someone's mind could function in a way to make this an okay thing to do. I don't get it.

Stay safe.

It's weird, because as I was driving home on Friday from Costco (about 15 mins. before the shooting) I remember this guy in a box type truck driving alongside me, and he deliberately looked down from his window at me as he was driving by, and we made direct eye contact.

I'm one of those people that thought to myself "what the *&%$ are YOU looking at?!" Could it have been that guy? Or just some guy being nosey? We'll never know.

One thing the authorities do know is that this guy is a sharp shooter, and gets his aim the first time, with ONE exception, the woman shot on Friday.

From where he shot from (or where they think he shot from) is a good distance away, to make your mark like that is pretty darned good!

The word from several local "authority" figures are that this is a guy with a military background, who is mad and p.o.'d at something, and is taking it out on innocent bystanders. :(

I know this might be a strange question....but, are they even sure the shooter is male? I am reading they're from the same weapon, but there are no real details on the sniper that I've read so far.

No Honeywolf, it's a shame we always think it's a male...could be a female!

Females usually don't fit the profile for this type of crime...although I remember back in the early 1980's when a woman dressed in camoflauge clothing opened fire in a shopping mall where I used to live in Springfield, Pennsylvania killing at least one man. Her name was Sylvia Seagrist, she was in her 20's and she just snapped.

Do you have a descent description of this guy? It might be worth talking to the authorities.

honeywolf7 - No, they don't know if it is a male or a female. I guess we all just assume it is a man, even though it could just as easily be a woman.

Blondie, where do they think the person shot from?

This is very scary--Lauren called me Friday afternoon when she heard it on the radio and my first impulse was to call my kids in from playing. I had been outside and noticed later that a couple family members had called, probably calling to tell me it had happened so close.

You guys heard that someone was shot on the Howard/Montgomery county line last night, right? Of course, they are saying its not related, but then again, they said that about both the D.C. and the Virginia shootings at first as well. Where it happened in Howard County is a very safe, somewhat rural area, I'm betting its the same guy. :(

My kids are dying to go out and play, but it looks like another day where we stay inside. :(

We had a shooting last night in Lancaster County, PA and on the news they were VERY CLEAR at saying they feel it was NOT a random shooting. People are scared EVERYWHERE right now. I jump on here every chance I get looking for any update's from those close by -- this is bringing chills to me!

Off Topic -- Snoopy -- I miss your porch picture -- even though your boys are ADORABLE! [gee, I hope I have the right person] - I often recognize posters by there signature pics and not always the name -- so whenever the signature pics change -- it confuses me! -- KEEP THOSE BOYS INSIDE and safe! I would be doing the same thing.

The State Police say the shot came from the Pizza Hut, you know where that is right, it's next to the McDonalds.

You guys gotta realize, this is some distance away...there is lots of traffic entering and leaving the mall, Michaels, Pizza Hut, McDonald's (among other businesses) all share the same driveway in and out of this shopping complex. It's a very busy road.

For this guy to aim and shoot from that distance away, and hit his target is unbelievable.

Who ever this person is, he is an expert shooter, and has had lots of training and experience with hitting targets, thus the military reference in my above post.

Ofcourse, he could also be someone who has been target shooting for some time (without a military background) preparing for this rampage.

The shooter is definitely an expert marksman/woman. The reason I thought of the possibility of it being a woman is just that most of the time when you think of someone being this skilled with a gun, your first thought is that it is a man but I was taught by my dad from the age of 16 to be an excellent shot. Whether it's a man or a woman, this is incredibly scary and I don't plan to go out except to go to school for a while.

The shooting death of a man in Howard County, Md., was apparently not linked to the sniper killings in recent days in Spotsylvania, Maryland and Washington.

That was disclosed today during a news conference held by Montgomery County (Md.) Police Chief Charles Moose.

Wow, that is unbelievable. The main way in and out of the mall, with cars constantly coming and going, is in between the Pizza Hut and Michael's. It's hard to believe no one got hit in between the shooter and this woman.

What I want to know is, how did the sniper use a high powered rifle without anyone taking notice?
