Can anyone get the searches on this board to work? My searches always come back with an error message and they time out. Anyone out there have regular success? Right now, none of my searches are working!

I'm not a techie, but I suppose searches must be labor intensive for a server? And since this is such a busy place anyway... I don't know :confused3

But for this very reason, I do feel that folks need to be somewhat understanding about repeated thread topics on the boards.

You're correct. Searches are a tremendous load on the servers. And unfortunately when people do search, most do not narrow their search to help. If you know your post was on DVC-Planning, then limit it to that board, don't search the entire DISboards. If you know it was in the last month, limit the search to the last month, don't search for the past year.

All this would help.

::yes::
I seldom have problems with search, but I do most of my searches like Caskbill outlined and I also do most at times when it's not particularly busy.

Same here. I make my searches as narrow as I can: the most appropriate forum, specific keywords, date range, and if I'm pretty sure I remember who posted the info I'm looking for, I fill in the user name field as well. As a result, I rarely have a problem.

I found that if I just go to Google and enter in the same search words 99% of the time it brings up posts from the Dis first.

Just in case there is some unclarity: to do what Caskbill suggests above, you need to click on "Adavnced Search" in the search box that you open above and then put in your search criteria at the advanced search page. Any limitation you make, such as going back to only a certain date or limiting the forum, usually produces quick results.
