Pete's recent requests for stories about how the DIS has affected your life got me thinking. I've been listening to the podcast for about three years now. I started listening too late to help me plan for my last Disney vacation in 2009. And I'm currently in a situation (that might hopefully change soon thanks to the help from some DIS-ers) where I'm not planning for an upcoming trip. What, besides lots of laughs, could I be getting out of the podcast?

The realization hit me when I was listening to the Disneyland DIS anniversary podcast. Even though I'm not listening to learn and plan my next Disney vacation, I realized that I am listening to learn. This occurred to me when I was listening to the always eloquent Wayne Toigo (sp?). I always enjoy Wayne's segments. His research and knowledge are impressive and impeccable. However, it's his way of talking that always impresses. While listening to him talk, I thought to myself "I wish I could learn how to organize and express my thoughts that easily, sensibly, and authentically". My thoughts clicked, and I thought "I wonder what else I'm learning from the podcasters?"

I came up with a quick list for myself, which I'll list below. But it got me to wonder what other people are learning from the podcasters and bloggers.

Please name and describe the classes you'd take from the DIS Unplugged podcasters and bloggers. Here's my list:

Finding Your Voice: Learning how to organize and express your thoughts, by Wayne Toigo

Theme Park Prep: Perfect Ways for Packing Your Patience, by Kathy Werling

Through the Glass, Kookily: Finding, embracing, and laughing at your own unique self, by Teresa Echols

Getting What You Paid For: Being a smart and strong consumer, by Pete Werner

Note: I hope that I spelled all names correctly in this post. Please forgive me if I didn't.

Fantastic idea.

Selflessness: Learning to put your children's needs first, Julie and Corey Martin

The Art of Forming the Perfect Rant by Pete
Finding the Best in the Worst Food Establishments by Kevin

Sent from my iPod touch using DISBoards

Proper attire for exercising - Teresa :joker:

This is great! A truw testament to fact that the varied personalities on the podcast each contribute something unique to each show.

Disney Photography 101 ...Kathy Werling
How to speak words in an awesome manner ...Walter Echols
How to plan a party for 300 of your closest friends ...John Magi
Glitter, glitter, and more glitter. A sparkly art class ...Teresa Echols
How to film thrill rides ...Dustin West

Surprising and Inventive Household Tips led by Kevin Klose.

Thanks to a few aside mentions by Kevin, I have now discovered the following:

1. How to use Dawn Dish Soap to remove stains from clothing.
2. That Downy Wrinkle Releaser exists. And, subsequently, have learned to make my own for next to no cost.

But seriously, thanks to those two tips alone, doing laundry and getting ready in the AM is that much less of a hassel. :)

I love this! Espcially Teresa's sparkles class.

You're never too old for Disney-The Podcast team

First of all, thanks Kuzco for all the great words! It's comments like that which help keep us going. I appreciate it!

I too have learned much from the School of the DIS, not only from participating, but also from listening and interacting with the other podcasters.

Here are the classes I'd like to take:

Finding the FUN in everything - Mary Jo
The ups and downs of being outragous! - Nancy Johnson
Details and Accuracy - Aaron DelPrince, HydroGuy
Find your niche - Bob Varley
Be honest, be real, be yourself - Pete Werner

I don't know what a good name for this class would be... maybe How to Be a Good Person. It seems to me that everyone on the Orlando team (someday I will listen to the DL podcast!), even the few Pat and I haven't met in real life, are all just really amazing and genuine people.

It goes without saying that Corey and Julie are fantastic parents, as are Kathy and Teresa. Pete and Kevin have always spoken of their parents so reverently, you know they are good sons. Walter and Pete and John and Kevin and Corey and Julie have these amazing relationships with their partners.

So, yeah. How to be an honest, decent person and friend.

I'm glad that people are having fun with this.

I noticed that I had some time in my schedule, so I picked up two more classes:

Gentle mental giant*: sharing your genius, humbly, by John Magi.

Lowered expectations: theme park dining strategies (everything from encounters with disenfranchised CMs to what to do when facing a sad little crab cake), by Kevin Klose.

*This is not a comment on physicality, but a riff on the term "mental midget".

Other classes that I think would be good:

Cooking with Kevin: The ins and outs of truffle salt and other herbs
How to make your own big book of grievences: With John and Teresa.

Hmmmm. Outrageous. That's a first! :-). I think I would re-title that as "Recognizing When an Opportunity Knocks and Fearlessly Facing the Challenges of Getting What You Want"
