The Running Thread--2024

I have a follow-up treadmill question: it occurs to me that I maybe don’t need a folding treadmill - 90% of the time, it’s going to sit in one place, fully open. But 10% of its life, I’ll need it to move a bit to access a seldom-used closet behind it. How hard is it to scooch a non-foldable treadmill within a room? The room is carpeted, but I have Super Sliders - in theory I could lift it enough to slide those under??
I don’t think sliding it out of the way should be too much of an issue. My treadmill is fairly large and heavy, (it needs to be disassembled to fit out the door) and needs two people to lift and carry the base out of the room. However, if it comes down to moving it within the room it is on carpet and I can easily slide it around myself

May Miles = 117

I will be starting June with my first race since Dopey - a half marathon tomorrow in Simsbury, CT. I have been sick all week so this should be fun. And then next week, I will be doing our town 5K which I just found out is a new course this year and it runs down my street and passed my house!! I hate 5K's but I can't not run a race that goes right by my house, right?

January Miles = 116
February Miles = 105
March Miles = 111
April Miles = 118

2024 Total = 567

I guess I'll see you there? I'm doing the Half on Sunday. The half starts two hours after the full so we might end up finishing around the same time.

All my thoughts and condolences to you and your husband
👋🏻 Yes! Have a great race 🚒

May 2024

Running: 30h 10m, 184.8 miles
Strength/mobility: 9h 20m
Total: 39h 30m

Plus one very muddy 5K PR 🥳 [recap]. Next weekend will be my last race for this training block.

June will be much lower mileage as I take a bit of a break between my current 5K block and marathon training starting in July 😴

May miles: 13.8 miles (5.6 outside, 8.2 treadmill)

I'm making some changes to my exercise routine so there will be a lot less treadmill and hopefully more outside running over the next few months.
I'm hoping too as well. I'm currently staying in a neighborhood that has no flat piece except a town soccer field. I googled it - 4.6 laps of a regulation soccer field equals a mile. Challenge accepted.

The most Vermont thing ever just happened. I placed an order on the Untapped site around lunch time today. Just a few minutes ago (5:15ish), my doorbell rings, and it's one of the owners hand delivering my order! We had a lovely chat about her family and all the Olympic medalists in it. 😆

May Running:
Total Distance: 73.3 mi
Average pace: 10:54/mi

I have nothing on my race calendar until the WDW Marathon and am trying not to lose my mind without a plan. The good news is that I have been doing strength training, such as it is, once or twice a week. Hoping I can make it stick.

May Totals:
Swim - 16.4 miles
Bike - 462 miles
Run - 88 miles

A decent month highlighted by a week-long training camp in Portugal. Nothing but training, eating, and sleeping for the whole week, and a great way to get ready for Roth. Can’t wait to go again next year.

Sorry for your loss, @flav.

Got about 29 miles in for May between family illnesses and injuries. Was hoping to get back up to 50 miles this month, and woke up with strep throat yesterday. :( Figured you all would appreciate this reading from my Garmin:

34 miles for the month of May.

Had a mild meltdown after the chef of our high end restaurant quit. Then my car still won’t start with the new(then) motor, and we were out bid on a new restaurant location I was really excited for.

Pulling things back together. Today is day 29 of sobriety. Focusing on running with a bit more speed. Trying to stay sane.

Congrats on getting sober. Running is a great distraction.

May 2024: Activities: 9 Distance: 35.55 mi Time: 6:49:47 (this includes one 15k run)

My original plan for May was to run twice a week, yoga at least once a week, and strength training 5 times a week. That was pretty much accomplished, and then the last week of May I decided to have a "test week."

1 mile run 8:44 (PR, at least since owning my Garmin)
Squat 144 lbs
Deadlift 179 lbs Sumo, 169 lbs conventional
Bench Press 116 lbs
Push-ups 11

For fun last week I jumped rope for the first time in probably 10 months. Oye vey! That destroyed my calfs & ankles. I was sore for about 3 days. I know it would get better with practice, but I'll probably take about 10 months off! 🤪

Looking forward to June, I'm starting a 12-week 5k training plan so I'll be running 4 times per week. I'll be doing a home based strength program 3 times per week. I recently learned about qi gong yoga so I expect I'll be fitting that in as "exercise snacks" here & there.

The public pool opens this month too! YAY! I'm interested to hear about aqua-jogging if anyone does that. Is it as simple as "running" under the water? Should I be in waist high water or more like neck-high? Should I stay in one place or try to move forward in a line?
