The Running Thread - 2019

ATTQOTD: Celebrating the 4th with my neighbors then heading over to the common area with them to watch the HOA shoot off fireworks. We have a miserable neighbor that complains about fireworks, likes to cite FL law and threatens to call the cops so I'm looking forward to reading his facebook drama. No running planned for the 4th, but I do have strength training planned. My husband has to work on Friday, but he probably won't be working very hard since a lot of people took the day off. It's the same old stuff for us for the weekend too since we aren't going anywhere.

ATTQOTD: We are headed to Atlanta for the weekend to see family and go to a Braves game. No plans for the 4th. Our town does fireworks but we always take the kids to the Walmart parking a couple of miles away where we can still see the fireworks but takes a fraction of the time to get back home.

Has anyone ran a WMNS series race? I just got an email about one in Chicago this fall. Looks like a 5k and 10 mile or there's a challenge if you run both. You get macarons and double sided medals. I'm tempted. It's the same group that does the Ditka Dash races so maybe it's just first one ever? hmmmmmmm

QOTD: With the 4th of July falling on a Thursday, who is getting a long weekend? Do you only have the 4th off and have to go back to work Friday? What are your plans and any fun running events?
ATTQOTD: I have both days off. Both my parents are tuning 80 this year (my Mom last month and my Dad on Friday) and in lieu of a party, they wanted their extended family to spend the weekend together in the Berkshires. We are seeing two concerts (James Taylor Thursday and Boston Symphony Friday) at Tanglewood and then spending Saturday in Saratoga Springs, NY where my Dad was stationed when my parents first got married and where my older siblings were born.

ATTQOTD: 33rd Peachtree. I still have all the shirts, so literally I have clothes older than some of you.

It will be our usual plan: head down to bro's on the evening of the 3rd. Drink too much beer and wine. Run the Peachtree. Head back to bro's for burgers and dogs (ketchup permitted on dogs, mayo prohibited). Drink too much beer and wine.
Probably yoga on Friday to ease the post-race tightness.

Retired, so they're ALL long weekends!

Off on the 4th, working Friday but like 75% of the department is out so it will be an easy day.

My plans include seeing Spider-Man on Thursday, taking Qi’ra to puppy class on Saturday and a birthday champagne & Jazz brunch on Sunday

I have been told ranch on all of the things is a midwestern thing. I think it is an american thing.
Everyone everywhere in this country says, “I love ranch on everything it’s such a (insert where they’re from) thing.”

No, it’s a basic thing. It’s fine if you do it, but stop pretending it’s a regional culinary specialty.

My office is closed on the 4th and we're going to do our best to avoid heat and crowds so we'll probably just do a double feature at the movies and see Toy Story and Spiderman. I'm working on Friday but I always work from home on Fridays so at least I won't have to physically be in the office.

After a lot of googling, it looks like this is only in Chicago and the first one. If I lived closer I would do it because the branding is cute AF.

That's the race I was looking at a couple weeks ago, but under a different name. I had some reservations about it after I couldn't get anyone to contact me, but maybe they were just busy converting everything over. I really want a rose gold medal. I'm probably gonna skip the race I thought I had decided on in New Hampshire and do this instead.

I already had planned to take Friday off and go out of town to visit family. My nephew is 3.5 yo and we are bringing him a giant bubble-maker!

Yeah, I'm a sucker for race theme/bling. Thinking on it. Have another half 9/29 in Chicago that I was just "meh" about because of the course, but then this one is following weekend and on my preferred lakefront area. hmmmmmmmmm

I did the Ditka Dash by same company several years in Chicago and it had a lot of good swag. That race was definitely a self-seeded, everyone in costume, not timed, party atmosphere...so I believe different kind of race than this one. I have one rose gold medal from the Naperville women's half two years ago so I thought this may be affiliated, but looks like different organizers. I'm tempted.

ATTQOTD: 6th Peachtree, so those shirts are virtually new! But I still have many clothes older than some on this thread.

It will be our usual plan, too, since DH has run about 28 of them: Travel to Atlanta on the afternoon of the 3rd. Spend the night at a nearby hotel, eat dinner within walking distance, early to bed and early to rise, walk down and race, meet up at The Tavern in Piedmont Park after the race, MARTA back for clean up, and head for home. Then grill out steaks and veggies.

(I will try to meet up at the M balloon, but because I'm starting in wave E and running slowly, you will probably be gone by the time I've collected my shirt!)

In February I started running again after a 25-year hiatus and used the RunDisney virtual challenge as my motivation. I started with the idea of just wanting to be able to run a 5K. That morphed into running my first live race on Memorial Day, then signing up for 2 more live 5K events this year, then getting back to losing weight (20% for the health benefits and 80% for the PRs!) and now I just training for 10Ks!

Memorial Day: No Excuses 5K, 43:58
June 1: Captain Marvel Virtual 5K, 45:15
July 1: Iron Man Virtual 5K, 39:31

ATTQOTD: Off on Thursday, working on Friday. I am just back from a major vacation so working. Very happy its a slow week with most on vacation this week. I will decide on Friday if i am going to the office or not. I walk to work so it really depends how much I drink on Thursday. If I hang out with @OldSlowGoofyGuy i might have to work at home :rotfl2: .

As for running I am in for the Peachtree. It is going to be HOT AF. Can't wait. This is at a minimum Peachtree number 9 for me. i really thought i had one or two more and I might, that was back when the Peachtree was only timed if you were a qualifier and back then i would not have been.

Am going to do my best. How long are you expecting it to take? I was originally shooting for under 52 but i think with the heat under 55 would be a better target.
