QOTD: Tell us about your first race and how did it go? How much have you improved since then?
I started running in 2014, I ran a couple of 5ks and 10ks that were not memorable. I had ONE half marathon on my bucket list so I registered for the 2015 WDW 10k and Half. I'm not a diligent runner and I don't train (I know, I know)!! On a Thursday in November 2014, a friend called to tell me that he had unknowlingly double registered for a local half marathon and asked if I want his extra bib. I figured it will be a good way for me to see if I can really do a half. Only problem is the race was that Sunday so only 2 days away. Race morning, I went totally unprepared. I didn't know about hydration (it was a cold November), I was afraid to drink cuz I didn't want to use the porta potties. I didn't know to pace my self so I started running full on...by mile 8, I was cooked. My calves were cramping so bad that I would've stopped if there was a med tent nearby, but it was a small local race and med tents was few and far away. I finished among the last 5 and basically crashed to the ground at the end. I remember limping to the car and thinking that I’ll have to forfeit that 2015 WDW 10k and Half. One year later, I ran the same half marathon as my 10th half. My time is still not good but now I know how my body works and I recover much, much quicker.
