The Running Thread - 2016

Hey y'all! I'm working on being overall healthier. I used to run 5ks and was about to start training for my first half when I found out I was pregnant with my first kiddo. It was a rough pregnancy with restrictions and not a lot of physical activity. I decided that I wanted to start training again and three weeks later, found out we're expecting #2!

Anyway, I have the go ahead from the doctor this time to start slow and work out some. Which I have a decent routine for.

My question is, what are some of your favorite foods for pre and post workouts? I'm absolutely starving after just a walk around the block and would like to know some easy yummy snacks that won't completely destroy any good I just did (like my cheese puffs did earlier).

If I'm waiting more than 40 minutes to run after waking up, I like to have a small bowl (I use a toddler Doc McStuffins bowl for easy measuring!) of cheerios or total. After a run, I like a small chocolate milk or a toast with an egg on top if it will be a while before my next meal.

I love the QOTD! Answer: Completed my first 10K/Half challenge weekend!

Today's QOTD - lets go streaking! Have you ever been or are you a streaker? Running at least a mile a day for a month, 100 days with the Penguin, or even a year or more counts. Going past the cabin of the opposite sex at camp in your youth does not.

My answer - nope, never had a running streak. I value my rest & recovery time too much. I did run the Naked Mile while at Michigan, though. :rolleyes1

@opusone - you're up next for tommorow's question

My generational mind went there when I read the first 2 lines. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

No running streaks. Swimming streaks yes. Back in the high school days competed both in the HS team and AAU. But in this age group I have a long streak involving the sofa. :rotfl2:

ATTQOTD: I'm having a little difficulty getting past "100 days with the Penguin" - if I Google/UrbanDictionary that phrase will my work Internet filter bark at me about going into NSFW territory?
But regardless, I don't streak (yet) as I tend to max out (hills/tempo/distance) and probably go beyond a reasonable work-out limit every time I lace up the ol' running shoes, so I'm generally limited to running every other day. I'd love to run the 2018 anniversary Dopey, but the thought of 4 straight days of running is more than a little intimidating for fear that I won't be able to walk to the Marathon start. What I need is a good Dopey plan, but where o' where can I find such a thing?

Never been a running streaker. The most days I've done in a row was 7 (5/25/16-5/31/16).

I have never been a streaker... regardless of your chosen definition. Although, as I'm sure @CheapRunnerMike and @FFigawi can now attest, training for an Ironman automatically puts you into a streak of sorts given that every day you are training in at least one of the three disciplines.

@opusone - you're up next for tommorow's question

Duly noted. I'm on it.

ATTQOTD: Not a streak of days. But I tried to replicate @Keels "a race every month" goal last year and I got close but didn't get a Dec. This year I tried again and I'll be at 15 by end of the month. My "May" race was on 4/30 though so it's more like a streak with an asterisk.

Never intentionally, but I do recall running 36 straight days once while on Hansons, only breaking the streak because of something called "Christmas". Seems that it is a holiday celebrated by a lot of people, including my family, and I was not allowed to get out of the house for some reason :)

Oh ya, very true!

ATTQOTD: I did an at least one mile streak for a little over a month after my dog died as kind of a healing thing (She loved to run, so I was making up for all the runs we missed). It ended with a completely unrelated trip to the hospital and I never picked it back up afterward. I always think of her when I run.
