The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: This training plan, I am doing 6 days a week. So far it actually feels better then the previous cycles and I did 5 days a week. Mileage per week is running higher then previous cycles as well this early in the plan.

When not in a marathon training cycle, I still run at least 3 days a week, and try to get 4.

QOTD: How many days a week do you run? Does that vary during training cycles? How about when you first started running?

I currently run 6 days a week (well not currently, currently because I'm on a two week resting period). I haven't not been in a training cycle for quite some time (a few years) so for the foreseeable future it will always be 6 days a week. This last training cycle I averaged about 62 miles per week (or 9 hours) with a peak of 71. The plan (see here) I just set up for Dopey will average 56 miles per week (or 8 hours) with a peak of 65.5. When I first started running in the summer of 2012 I ran three times per week and 25-30 minutes per day. I increased up to 5 days a week prior to Dopey 2014. Then back down to 3 days a week during non-Dopey training in 2014 and 2015. And then started 6 days a week in Summer 2015 (when I started Hansons).

Well, I've missed a few days and was PAGES behind again! Meetings out of town, DD26 stopped to spend the night as she is moving (driving) from Colorado Springs to Raleigh. And this new job is much busier than my last job since the assistant for my new position was me in my old position, lol! Working for the state, it takes a long time to fill positions so it will probably be Dec/Jan before I get an assistant.

So.... here are a few answers to the QOTD:
No trail runs. I am far too accident prone to add roots, rocks, etc to the mix!

I work in a residential center for developmentally disabled adults so there is constantly sickness' going around! I tend to lock myself in my office, wash my hands all the time, I have hand sanitizer everywhere. When I start to feel sick I am quick to use Zicam nasal swabs. They usually knock the cold out right away for me if I start them in time.

I run 3 days a week.

I think I may have missed a few questions, lol. :)

ATTQOTD: I'm currently running 3-4 times per week- I'm using Higdon's 10K training plan + sometimes running an extra day. After my 10K, I'll pick up on a HM training plan (can't decide if I should use a JG or HH plan). I did a 100 day run streak this summer which was fun, but I found that I got into a rut of doing the minimum 1 mile each day... not beneficial!

100 days straight is impressive. Kudos!

And to answer the QOTD, I currently am on a run streak trying to do at least a mile a day, so I'm running every day, unless this knee issue gets worse, then I'll have to re-evaluate. I like the run streak because it makes running a habit for me, regardless of issues of motivation, so I'm hoping I can keep it up (111 days and counting).

Oh man, I just found out Meb Keflezhigi is going to be at my small local running store this weekend! I can't believe I'm out of town. I'm not a marathon runner, but it would be neat to see him in person. And they're gonna do a morning fun run with him ... can you imagine? Like a sub 6:00 pace would probably be his version of a fun run. :faint:

I gave in and resorted to over the counter meds to relieve the sinus pressure. Not that I think they are bad or anything, I typically feel worse after taking them instead of better. However, I was feeling so bad, they I did not care, and for once they are actually working and I feel better. So much so, I got in 11 miles this evening. So, hopefully I continue to improve and come Sunday be 100%!

You have to do what you have to do.

ATTQOTD: My goal is 3 work out days 2/3 to run and one day of yoga, if I'm lucky I can run and do yoga on the same day.

However i have been finding this really hard. So few hours of light, plus my busy time at work, yesterday was a 13 hour day, I get home and I want to see my daughter before she goes to bed and then I'm already ready for bed, and I skip my run/work out. Work should slow down soon, I hope, so I'm hoping that allows me to get on a better scheduled again. It's a balancing act between my husband working out, doing activities with my daughter etc.

I'm happy I got into running but I told my husband I wish I did it sooner.

ATTQOTD: I'm currently (this week) running zero days. I've recovered nicely from Sunday's marathon and will probably start running again this weekend. I think I'll run 4 days a week for a while. I have a half marathon scheduled for 11/6, but I signed up for that a year ago before I signed up for the Chicago Marathon. So I really have no goals on this upcoming Half except to enjoy running it more than I did last year... went out to fast and the first several miles are hills. Until this recent marathon training cycle, I had only run 4 days/week. For 20 weeks I ran 6 days/week and I really got used to that schedule and the variety that the Hanson Plan "forced" me to do. In the past, I just ran without any real purpose in mind for any of the runs. I was in a crappy mood last night and my wife attributed it to me not running. Probably some truth to that or maybe post-marathon blues.

QOTD: How many days a week do you run? Does that vary during training cycles? How about when you first started running?

I usually run 4-5 days per week when I'm not in a running block, and when I am training for an actual race I will up it to 6 or even 7 days a week. I try to get in a good speed set, a solid tempo and a long run, offset with some easier trail runs on the in between days. I need the trails to make sure I'm not running too hard.

So I'm out on the track today, sweating up a storm, and suddenly I see a crowd... I had to run through the Patriot Guard lined up to kick off something on base... and the news crews. Needless to say, I am very thankful for sunglasses so hopefully people won't recognize me! Or I can hope that my pink sparkle skirt and pink top and hot pink shoes and very white legs just blinded everyone.

He actually was a pacer for the Rock N Roll Chicago 5k in 2015 which was my first ever "big event" race ever. I didn't know who he was, only that he high-fived me after the finish line. Sadly, I did not go out in his pace group though...they were corraled ahead of me. I think it was like the 8:00 or 8:30 per mile group. Which is still a tad too speedy for me. But nice of them not to choose 6:00!

I had to double check who posted this because it's sounds exactly like something i would write and how i often feel. Not enough daylight, too many working hours, want to spend time with my daughter, wish I started running back when I was younger...check, check, and check. I am looking forward to really going after it more when daughter gets a bit older...maybe I'll be a perrenial age-grouper in my later years :)

On average I am running 5 days a week. DW and I are running the Savannah Marathon in three weeks.

For this training cycle I decided to try out the Hanson's Marathon Plan. While that plan does call for 6 days of running, I am only doing 5. Six was just too much for me. One thing I have made sure not to miss during this plan are all the speed workouts, tempo runs and long runs. I have done every one of those.

DW and I are running the Savannah Marathon in three weeks, and the final real long run was today. I have to say that I am very happy with the results thus far. I feel I am in better shape for this marathon than I was for Goofy in 2015, and I hit a PR in both those races. As long as the weather is decent in three weeks, I fully intend to PR at this race.

He seems like a really nice guy. And he really handled the Rio marathon well despite getting sick. It would have been cool to wear gear from his alma mater and see him since no one up here appreciates it. :p I think I could hang with an 8:30 pace for 3 mi (they have 5k and 10k options) but I'm guessing there's going to be a huge group. Would have loved to see a mass of runners overtake the town.
