The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: What type of meal have you had the night (or day before) a long run / race that you will never eat again based on how you felt during the run?

Not really a full meal, but the night before the SWDS half marathon I had a:

Ghirardelli Intense Dark Hot Fudge Sundae at Disney Springs

I love that dark chocolate hot fudge! My stomach does not love running at 5AM the morning after I have loved that dark chocolate hot fudge. I directly attribute my increase in race pace approaching Animal Kingdom to the steadily increasing urgency to find a porta-potty! I'll save the sundaes for post-race celebrations from here on out.

ATTQOTD: I discovered in the worst way that my stomach does not like regular Gatorade/Powerade during a run. I can only use the low sugar versions. Thankfully I was just on a long run in my neighborhood. I was able to make it home.

Food wise, I have a gut of steel. Last night I ran 5 miles at a pretty decent pace within 10 minutes of eating spicy carne asado burritos for dinner. I thought about letting my food settle some, but I didn't want to be out until 10 pm.

Kind of food related. Wanted to let @michigandergirl know what I will be wearing for the RnR 10k in Chicago in case we end up looking for each other. I may have just purchased this running skirt 5 minutes ago and expedited the shipping.

ATTQOTD: I so, so, stupidly ate a huge burrito at Paradiso 37 for lunch the day of last year's Wine and Dine. By whatever time my corral went off (11 or 11:30pm) I was having horrible gas issues. I was thankful that the distance got cut in half because it was hurting just to walk.

ATTQOTD - Seafood. I ran a Half a few years ago in Long Beach, NJ. My wife and her family went with me, and I had to fly out immediately after the Half for a business trip. So that meant that I only had one evening with the family in Long Beach, and they guilted me into diner at a highly rated seafood restaurant. The food was great, but it wasn't desirable for someone running a half marathon the next morning. I didn't have the time that I had trained for, and I didn't enjoy the course as much as I should have.

QOTD: What type of meal have you had the night (or day before) a long run / race that you will never eat again based on how you felt during the run?

ATTQOTD: Chicken Alfredo. No more pasta with dairy in it for me before a big running day.

My first ever marathon was preceded by an evening at O'Hana... Steak, shrimp, chicken, fried noodles, bread pudding, etc. Not my best decision ever. It was not just what I ate, but how much I ate. O'Hana is now an after all the races restaurant only for me!

This week we have the following folks with races:

09 - @Miranda - Old Port Half Marathon (2:45:00 / N/A)
09 - @huggybuff - Davis Moo-nlight 5k Run (44:00 / N/A)

Good luck to yall with your upcoming race this weekend! Let me know if you would like to adjust your goal time for the race. Have safe travels and a good race!
I have revised my goal to 3:00:00, which hopefully is doable. :) I basically just want to be able to finish (there are thunderstorms predicted right now). This is my Half Fanatics qualifying race (3 in 90 days), second attempt after last fall's 2 in 16 days attempt got messed up because of the W&D situation.

ATTQOTD: I usually have a pretty nervous stomach before a 10K or half, and will try to eat bland foods. A couple races I was in a weird denial about what was happening the next morning and went for In N Out or other greasy burger type meal- not smart!
