The Running Thread - 2016

Fall, summer, spring and winter in that order. Fall in New England is generally cool but not super hot or humid. Plus fall generally when I clock my best times!
Yeah... that's my order too, I think. Summer is pretty hot and humid, but for some reason I don't mind it as much as spring. Spring is unpredictable weather wise... maybe it'll be 80? Maybe 40? It rains a lot and there is sand EVERYWHERE still from the winter until the street and sidewalk sweepers go through. For some reason, running on tons of sand really bugs me.

Hello everyone! New to this thread, but not to running. I'm on the injured list right now, so I'm not currently running, but I hope to get back to it soon.

To answer the seasons question: I live in California, so we don't really have "seasons." For example, recently it was in the 50's and raining. A few days later, 78 and sunny. A more accurate answer would be that I like running when it is sunny and in the 40's-50's. I can't stand running when it's hot.

Welcome and hope you are back out there running soon.

That time is hard to imagine. What an ultimate accomplishment, just incredible!

Here is another video showing the fall from a runner's perspective as well as Kamworor catching back up through the field. Keep in mind he is passing elite runners around him, so it really goes to show how crazy fast he is. And look at how fast his cadence is compared to the other elite runners around him.

I submitted mine too.

Good Luck! Have you done MCM before?

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

QOTD: Which season is your favorite for getting your runs in?

ATTQOTD: I prefer winter for the cooler temps around here. If we had snow I would imagine that would change the answer.

My favorite is fall. I feel like it is always my strongest season, which is why I am choosing for my first full to be in the fall. I think I have the training benefits of summer running others have alluded to. And the cool weather in the morning while it is still bright early is a great combo for me. I prefer 40s to 50s for running, and that is common in the fall early mornings here in Massachusetts. I have to say after a record breaking winter of 2015 here, where we got 120 inches of snow, followed by this year where we are at 38 I believe, winter is not as bad for me if it stays dry. While I prefer a single layer of clothes versus 2-3 layers, I do think the cold is not as bad to run in as I thought as long as I don't have snow on the roads to deal with.

:D

It was meant to be a general comment on both materials, not really their suitability for running. The next time I see a person running in jeans on purpose will be the first time. Thanks for that image, but I'd probably go for the full Canadian tuxedo if I was really aiming for a luxurious running experience.

There is a woman at my gym who routinely works out in denim. I have never seen her wear anything but cutoff denim shorts. I have seen her on the elliptical, the stair machine, stationary bike, and treadmill. I have always wondered if it is comfortable for her. But she is there often, getting her workouts in, so whatever works I guess:)

Welcome! Hope your recovery is progressing!

Yesterday I sat and planned out my running workouts from now until mid June when my kids get out of school and and my schedule changes up. At that point it should also be about time to really focus on marathon training. I have used a Higdon plan for all my halves. Curious if others have used his Marathon plan and liked it. My goal will simply be to cover the distance. No major time goal for my first.

ATTQOTD: For Houston, I love the winter time. Coolish temperatures most of the time. Some runs with long sleeves, and some in short sleeves. I can do a 16 to 20 miler and not be squishing in my shoes by the end of the run.

I know exactly what you are talking about with the "squishing" during summer runs. Nothing like taking of your shoes and it looks like you took a swim in them. I live in Baton Rouge for reference, so our weather is nearly identical.

Wow! THe running thread has hit 100 pages! Big thank you to LSUlakes for getting this thread started!

Glad you are enjoying it. I meant to make a comment about 100 pages yesterday, but had to deal with some stuff at work.

QOTD: Since we hit 100 pages yesterday, I would like to know what has been your favorite part of the thread thus far? What would you like to see more of, and anything we should avoid?

ATTQOTD: I would like to thank everyone for participating and keeping this thread going. I enjoy seeing what races people are running and hearing about how the race went.

Anyone else picturing Tobias Funke?

I really enjoy seeing the races people are doing and hearing about how they did, as well as their build up to race day.

QOTD's help get me through the day! It is something I look forward to and it is really interesting seeing other people's answers.

Definitely look forward to the QOTD because I learn a lot from them (about myself even...sometimes I haven't really thought about something until it gets brought up here.)
I also really like when people talk about an interesting upcoming race or link to their race reports. Just because it's fun to see what is offered in other areas of the country/world.

I just updated the OP. If you don't see a race you requested to be added let me know so I can make the correction. I had to do some copy and paste, and well, crazy things can happen. Also, if you have a finish time for a race you have ran, let us know what it is so I can add it to the results section. Any new races coming up, just let me know and I will do my best to stay on top of it.

I'll echo others that the QOTD is my favorite part. I enjoy reading the variety of answers, and have learned some interesting things.

Thanks to @LSUlakes for both starting the thread and keeping it going with the QOTD, as well as tracking everyone's races. And on that note, since I did not get into the TD Beach to Beacon, I need that taken off for me, it is August 6th. Kind of put the cart before the horse there I guess;) I will likely replace it with something else toward the end of summer, but not sure exactly what yet.
