Cast List
Me: No introduction required, I suspect most of you know me by now!
DW: Long suffering DW of the above
Alex: 15 - Coaster and Disney freak
Laura: 13 - Style queen
Up at 8.30 today another beautiful day! We opened the doors to the balcony so we could hear the sea while coffee was brewing. This is the life! We decided to have breakfast in the room today so we popped down to the shop and bought bread, butter, jam and juice (about $12) before waking up the girls.
The idea was that wed have breakfast ready before waking them up in order to sweeten the blow! It didnt work though because they moaned that they didnt get much of a lie in (it was gone 9.30 by this time!!)
I rustled up several rounds of toast with jam and marmite (not together!) coupled with lashings of coffee and milk, juice etc Yummy, yummy!!! What a treat to have toast for breakfast! (Especially when sitting on the balcony hearing the sea lapping at the sand)
Balcony area
Ooops! forgot to acclimatise the camera!
Thanks to a note by Michelle, Land O Lard, sorry I meant Land O Lakes salted butter is about the best approximation to UK butter.
We grabbed our stuff, plus the things that we were left with and headed off to the beach at about 11am. The pool and beach are only accessible by room card (lots of people kept forgetting theirs so they had to stand and wait by the gate until someone else went in!)
After setting up camp we all headed straight into the sea, even Alex!!!(This was a major shock due to her phobia of seaweed and I really mean a phobia, she cant even look at pictures of it!) Shes not been in the sea for years and years, just in case there might be a centimetre of green stuff floating somewhere within a 10 mile radius!
Here be dragons
At about 1.30 we broke for lunch at Bleachers.
1 hotdog and fries
2 cheeseburger and fries
1 nuggets and fries
The food was all good hot and fresh.
We used our refillable mugs no problem here although a number of people were using the one time cups to refill.
Not much more to say for the afternoon in and out of the sea swimming and sunbathing. It was glorious!
Viscous waves making surfing dangerous
We took the boogie boards, chairs and umbrella with us to set up on the beach. Despite my best efforts there was no way I could get the umbrella to stand up. I really should have persevered with those Dynamic Tension exercises by Charles Atlas I really felt like the weedy guy who gets sand kicked in his face!
We got chatting to an interesting guy on the beach who was a very wealthy coin collector who lived in Orlando and was there for a break. We talked at length about Lincoln Pennies etc. He had 7 adopted daughters (wow and I thought 2 biological ones were hard work!)
Once more into the beach!
We finally left the beach at 5ish, all somewhat pink (ok glowing bright red then!) apart from Laura who just goes brown.
We all showered and changed then headed off out for food. This time we decided to hit the mean streets of Vero Beach proper. Now if I wanted an Orthodontist, Urologist, Diabetic clinic, bank or a lawyer then wed be quids in!
If you want to eat then bring your own picnic!
Eventually we ended up at Indian River Mall out of desperation thinking there must be something to eat there. Luckily for us we found a TJ Gators great food, good value and service.
Shaun = fish and chips (3 enormous fillets)
Alex = chicken strips and fries
Laura = salad
Alison =shrimp pasta
4 sodas
$60
Chis and fips again
Salad days
Not really Chicken Little!
After eating we wandered around Mall which was very quiet and pleasant.
Laura bought 2 pairs of Converse shoes for $77 and was very happy with the deal. She could have got cheaper ones but she wanted very specific ones.
Back home we all smeared Aftersun on to ease the tingling then watched the Olympics again (total Michael Phelps mania) before bed.
