Actually, Picard and crew did work with Scotty. They found his old ship, and found Scotty had rigged the transporter to keep himself in a permanent stasis, so to speak. Jordy was able to save him. Ultimately, they gave Scotty a shuttlecraft to use as his own.... #nerdalert

Incorrect. Pike was Captain of the Enterprise before James T. Kirk, but not the first. Even if you disqualify Jonathan Archer because his Enterprise was the experimental NX model, Robert April was the first Captain of the NCC-1701, predating Pike.

EDIT: Just found out my brother is going into surgery to have part of his intestine removed, my stepfather is going into a second surgery for cancer, my little girl (dog) just got put down, my little guy (dog) just had a biopsy, my mother (74) just was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis. I'm trying to stir up a conversation because this is my place.
